Morning all :D

Ive been toying with the idea as per the title of this thread for a while… so here we go.

Basically a Gala Ball at a function centre somewhere.

Everyone can get tarted up, suit style and come for a great night and a great sit down dinner with their partner or friends etc etc

Id imagine tickets somewhere around the $100 mark. Im not entirely sure on that but thats roughly what id expect maybe a tad more.

Some of the things we'll hope to have…

- High profile guest speaker(s) to come along for the night (someone from V8 supercars possibly, rallying, whatever we can workout)

- Raffle off some donations and unique prizes

- Music/DJ possibly during the night

- All proceeds from the event will go to a Charity

- Possibly subsidised entry for SAU-Vic members (something possibly like $20 towards your ticket). Note: subsidy would be dependant on a few things we'll workout that later however.

- Option to 'book a table', basically so you and your group of friends can book a whole table together :)

Please express your interest, and if you have any ideas or suggestions please feel free to post them in the thread.

Realistically we'd probably be looking to have at least 80 people to make something like this viable for the club.

Please vote guys

Thanks

Ash

It'll be ~ Mar-Apr '09 Ant.

Its severly too late notice for anyone to do this year. Plus to get high profile speakers etc, gotta get a fair bit of notice going

But ye it would be a perfect opportunity to do something like that i agree

Something for next year to think on for the end of year  10/10

if you hold it at crown, I can help out with the A/V side of things,,,,,,,

only problem is my company charges a lot for equipment hire and the palladium is not the cheapest room to hire.

thats if im still here next year.....

  • 1 month later...

I think i'd have a look. Give me a chance to show my GF that i'm not the only one obsessed with my car. lol. I'm sure a few of lads from Sniper and PSI Parts would be keen to.

Let me know exact dates as I may be away with the army.

Ok a small bump - we have 30 that would be in, and ill assume that means 60 (if everyone brings a +1)

So thats pretty close to the numbers that we need to kick this baby off!!!

i mentioned this gala ball when it was first posted up to the missus saying it MAY go ahead

she hasnt stopped asking about it since :(

EOI numbers are pretty good Al - the venue we are looking at (its in the CBD, so accessible for all that way) does have a guest limit so there would be fairly limited numbers and so on.

Also RBJ3T - this will be members only due to the fact its limited numbers, and the club will chip in to cover some of the cost of the price and so on to keep things affordable (as we try to do where we can).

Members would probably get a +1 by default as there is some element of exclusivity of being a member :(

    • Among other things yes. Making sure to either use an oil pressure regulator or the right restrictor size for your oil pump/range of oil viscosities you intend to run, making sure you plumb the lines correctly, turbo should be placed such that it siphons properly even when the water pump isn't turning so you don't boil coolant in the turbo after shutdown, oil return should be low resistance and also preferably picking the one that is most likely to return to the pickup as opposed to some other irrelevant part of the pan. It's far from impossible to figure this out but I have seen people really, really struggle and if that's the case it's easier to just take the path of least resistance. To me, bolt-on twin turbos are a fixed cost whereas single turbo is almost unbounded.
    • Latest round of updates on the car. I purchased and installed a SWS clutch slipper to help with 60ft times and got some second-hand good condition 275/40R17 Hoosier DR2 radials. Test and tune in November showed the tyres were an upgrade over my over 15 year old mickey Thompson's and I got a 1.8 second 60ft and pb et of 11.71 but even then, that run wasn't great due to rain and driver error (the event got called off 10 minutes later fast forward to the weekend just gone 25th of Jan and there was finally a break in the weather to let racing happen. The first run the track was slippery and only managed a 12.1@129 Second run the track was better and got a new pb et and mph: 11.54@131   Lith and I then worked out that I installed the previously mentioned clutch slipper incorrectly and its never been working, and I had just been dumping the clutch the entire time, we also noticed it was on street boost and not race boost. So I lined up for a third run with the car turned up in the first two gears, but the passengers side axle objected to clutch dumps and left the chat which stopped my weekend.   so there will be another attempt in the future once I replace the tyres as they rubbed and are stuffed now. but a low 11 should be on the cards.
    • Ceramic coating and heat shielding, you mean?
    • Turbos don't require pulling the motor apart so that's "easier". I would recommend the Nismo R3 turbos instead if you want to do stock twin turbo. It doesn't make as much power as the 2530s but it's only like ~50 whp off the mark and should have better response (ball bearing CHRA, slightly smaller turbo). A local that went with a Garrett G30 and 6boost manifold recently nearly burned his car to the ground after the hood insulator started melting and and burning so if you go single turbo I recommend doing a lot of research and validation work to make sure you don't do the same.
    • New rear lights, filler panel sprayed, cleaned and back together    before, during, after shots 😍
