Hi

Wanting to upgrade fuel pump in my R33 GTR, I want something that sits in the factory position and clips in like the stock fuel pump does

Besides the Japanese pumps, TOMEI, NISMO, SARD etc which are like $400 + is there any other pump that can use the standard mounting bracket, in maybe a BOSCH model?

Don't mind if it has to be modified 'slightly' as long as it sits as the factory fuel pump does and flows like a NISMO/TOMEI etc

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

the japanese pumps, nismo, tomei etc are well worth the money. in both of my heavily modified GTRs I used japanese pumps and couldn't be happier. they fit straight in in about 10mins. sure you can hack up your cradle to fit a bosch pump, but the number of times I've seen people fit an aftermarket pump to the stock cradle and then get fuel surge due to improper mounting is insane. considering how important good fuel supply is I would spend the extra few bucks and get a nismo one.

out of the japanese fuel pumps, which do you beleive is the best choice?

they are all much of a muchness. i've used nismo and tomei and hks. if I had to buy one now, I think i like nismo the best. dunno why, I just have an image of them being slightly nicer quality. but in reality there is bugger all between them.

Probably the best thing about Nismo is that 99.9% of the time is going to fit perfectly.

well i just fitted a gen. walbro fuel pump..rated at 550hp..

its like half the size of my stock fuel...

it was the BEST fit...and i didnt think it would..but wen i saw the pump..i was lik wow!...lol

which is way smaller than an bosch 040!!!!!

but i drive a gtst...

But i was gona buy a tomei one..its lik an extra 100ish bucks...

but its really up too u..

it fix a lot of flat spots after installed too.. :P

Thanks for that Adam

Anyone put a BOSCH 044 into an R33 GTR tank?

I put one in a 32 GTR tank; I don't know how different they are internally to the 33 tank.

I wrote a tutorial on it and someone was kind enough to take photos, you'll find it in the DIY section

It may be of some help, I don't know.

In a 32:

* It is not a drop-in replacement (cutting/fabrication/adapters needed, but the work is pretty simple).

* It is as quiet as the standard pump was.

* It flows more than enough fuel at ~65psi (something that walbros seem to struggle with).

If you can verify that your aftermarket pump of choice:

* flows enough fuel at the target pressure

* is a drop-in replacement

I'd go down that path. Drop-in replacements are always that much easier to deal with and you can always go back to standard anytime you want to.

Saliya

    • I don't run the spring but it means you need to set your own belt tension.  I put tensioners on both sides too.
    • Hi soviet_merlin, We appreciate your concern regarding this possibly being some sort of PR/Political hype, I assure you that is not the case, I wish we could claim something like that, but in this case, we merely reached out for comment on the basis of the outrage we too felt, as those heavily in the automotive industry. Ps. the original source in the social media post is CarExpert not CarExplore.    Best, CE.
    • Made a bit of a discovery, but while I was cruising, I randomly decided to test to see if it worked and it showed up on my IC7. The entire time I tested it before, I never thought to turn the ignition on. I only tested it with head lights turned on but with the ignition off. Huge oversight on my end. I’m a dummy. I know.
    • G'day all, I have drilled and tapped the hole for the relocation of the timing belt tensioner. That was straight forward. I'm unsure if I need to also put another hole for the smaller stud that the spring behind the tensioner catches on (this is how it seems to work in its original spot). Or do you not use the spring behind it and just torque it down? Thanks in advance, I did a search but couldn't find anything related and it doesn't mention it in the rb30det sau guide.
    • Hi All,  just thought I would provide an update as I know smooth (Matt) was on this forum from 2003.    my brother Matthew passed away end of may 2024 at the age of 41 from liver failure. I am not sure how many of his original team krazy friends are still on here or active but thought it reasonable to let the forum know.    if you have any photos or pictures it would be great if you could share them.    it took me a while to work out he was active on here.    thanks so much
