There is a little black plastic pack on the back of your alternator. It is full of diodes. Diodes that are usually broken - causing all manner of electrical mayhem. Have a look inside and make sure they are still in one piece. Cheap to fix though - give it to an auto electrician to sort, or look for another 2nd hand one in better shape.

That will be the bulb-check relay turning on, due to a charging fault.

That relay gets it's earth via the alternator, so once it starts charging, the earth is lost.

If you get a 'xmas-tree' on the dash with the engine running, you can consider that it's kind of a BIG charge light!

Yep, all the dash warning lights come up when the alternator is stuffed.

Wouldn't bet on being able to repair this "black box" on the back of the alternator, alot of nissans have an internal regulator which involves disassembling it to have it fixed.

my battery finally ran out of puff lol. just gotta wait till pay day argh!!

any ideas what other cars share the same alternator?

what car you got? L Series i assume. 200b, 180b, 280zx, 240 & 260z, even r31 skyline RB30 alternator can fit
