Top Jap Tuner Gtr High Speed Test Run In Hokkaido Tomorrow.

Recommended Posts

I'm getting a 2.8 engine build done by HKS here in Sapporo and got a call from one of the guys to see if I could come out today. I was supposed to go out yesterday to discuss the build but had to change that to this sunday, so thinking this was just going to be disccusion on the build etc I headed out about 2pm.

Well, what can I say but WOW...!! It turns out that the owner of Option magazine in Japan has organized a high speed 300kph over test run of the GTR35 with a few of Japans top Tuners. Supposedly there are 5 cars coming for the test, the ones that are already here are HKS Kansai, Garage Saurus another shop from Tokyo (cant rember their name as too excited) supposedly Top Secret and Mines are coming as well. Its going to be a magazine and option Dvd shoot for editions early next year so keep your eyes out for it. The owner of Option is going to be doing alot of the driving and is supposed to be famous high speed test driver.

The track is out on the south eastern part of Hokkaido near place called Mukawa and is oval banked high speed course. They chose here as they beleive the cool/cold temps here will be good for max high speed test. We have had a warmish week with lots of snow melting and forecast is for fine cold day so hopefully things will be perfect.

I got to hang around for couple of hours while they put white 35 on the dyno for tuning and power test...Where are the pics you ask..well I tried but was told it therewas absolute no chance of pics and tomorrows test is closed track except for tuners and option crew only. The car being tuned was from the garage I cant rember the name but what I could find out was, there were few mods with after market exhaust, turbo boost mod and few tweaks on computer management. To be honest it would of been easier getting blood out of a stone than prying info from these guys but I can tell you this car was consistenly putting out 610ps run after run and the engine and exhaust soon was bloody awesome.

My mate at HKS is cheif mechanic/manager at HKS Sapporo and said he will give me an update on it all this sunday.

All I can say it was big buzz to see this car being tuned and cant wait to here how tomorrow goes.

Yep..been a bit slow catching up on work etc and been busy as blue arse fly but here goes..

Ok as it turns out Mines and Top Secret didnt come up but there were 5 GTR's that came up from Honshu for the speed run including HKS Kansai, Garage Saurus , HKS Technical Workshop Tokyo plus 2 others I have to get the details as was pretty hungover when I went out and caught up with my mate Hiroyuki form HKS sapporo..

The weather was mild for this time of year..5-6c max and sunny all day, so they had great conditions. HKS Kansai had the fastest top speed for the day cracking 320kph with when you look at it , pretty mild mods and pretty much standard body . The others were around the 310kph mark.

My mate got to take one for a run and was so impressed with the way the car stuck to the track and said it was brilliant to drive.

Pretty impressive when you think what it costs in mods to get a 32,33 or 34 up to these speeds.

Anyway this is all 2nd hand from my mate as it was a closed track but there will be a DVD and magazine spread from Option coming out in Jan next year sometime..

    • yeah I have brown peeking out from in between some metal sheets close to the hood hinges. Strut towers look fine, even around the edges. some images https://imgur.com/a/brGt3Tu the one that looks the worst is the panel(s) going away right near the firewall on the passenger side, from underneath. Driver side does not look that bad.
    • I presume you are talking about a C34? Have you seen the buyers guide? https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/92065-buyers-guide-the-nissan-c34-stagea/ It's what got me to sign up to the forums when I bought mine. What kind of insight are you after? Up front I'd probably suggest to not get tempted by the poverty-spec models. I can't imagine a RB20DE to be engaging to drive in a 1600kg car.
    • yeah I try to be positive. Time will tell what becomes of it. Realistically my only other choice than to just deal with all the issues is to walk away and just sell it agai, at a loss.     I know a fair bit about these cars and knew before buying. I will try to deal with the rusty spots without tearing apart the metalwork for now. Sooner or later I probably will have to bite the bullet and do (or ge done) the arguably worst job an a 33/34 Skyline.
    • I'm aware that you can sink endless amounts of money into an engine. I don't want that kind of engie though. My power goal is 500, maybe 600hp at the max. I can get by with the nearly stock engine that I have now for that purpose and if it does need a rebuild at some point I would choose longer lasting components instead of the most ridiculously hp-rated ones. And do all the essentials of course.
