um i did the snipping and grounding of the black wire that goes to the boost solanoid. i grounded it and now boost is crazy!!!!!!! im hitting 10 pound at 2000rpm but it keeps on going to like 15-16psi and it cuts out. i know im not spose to go over 10 with stock stuff so wtf!?!?!?!?! this mod seems to work wit evryone else so is it not grounded properly or something? any help would be sweet thanx

Well if its rising to 15-16 psi then cutting out, its your boost cut on your ecu, but I suggest you recheck which wire you cut..

Be careful because you will more than likely have major detonation going on..

this happened to me when i first got my r33. did the mod and boost spiked to almost 20psi, for a brief second.

i went hunting around and found that my ecu had an electronic boost control module that i was unaware of.

check to see if you have anything else controlling your boost.

and obviously, triple check that you've done the mod correctly

woah quick reply thanx mate.

yeah i cut the black wire as the tutorial says the white wire is power and the black controls the dual stage boost. evryone else seems to be getting full 7-8 psi with no problems doing this.

could it maybe not be grounded properly? i didnt solder i just used the connecter things. ill try get a pic up.

ok heres my car and what ive done. ive used speaker wiring and the hook things that came with my amp wiring kit. is this not good enough to ground it? its all i had and i didnt think it would do this if it wasnt grounded properly.

should i get better wiring and solder it or put it back to normal?

i dont have any boost controller but it looks like there used to be one cos theres a couple a screw holes under my dash.

did you cut the black wire so as to disconnect it from the ecu. on the plug for the boost soliniod. you should have cut the black wire, and the bit of wire coming out of the plug shouldn't be connected to anything at all. the white wire remains connected to the solinoid. and you ground the black wire you cut off that plug (the one that goes to the solinoid) only.

its just in your pic it looks like you have grounded the wire coming out of the plug?

looking at the pic all thats happened is hes ct the ground wire and then joined in another piece to ground. also did u use a multimetre to ensure u geting a good gound?

and speaker wire really shouldnt b used for this, could also b issue.

if u in vic, let me know and ill b able to help u ut if u want

oh i wish. im across the ditch mate. auckland. ive hooked it up to the other end of the wire and its running normally now so maybe its not grounded properly to get 7 psi.

also my brother had a look at it and its vacuum is going -20 and he said it should be -10. and when im boosting a tiny bit its at like 0 or just below is this normal?

im such a newb!!!

thanx for tryna help peeps

Trust me, you'll only be getting to 14psi MAX! The boost cut sensor is very girl-like and kicks in very early (normally 13.5psi) your gauge may be a little off.

yeah its random when i cuts. ill take it to 10 and hold the throttle at half and itll still cut and today i tried to wire it up with better stuff and its still normal. it pulls 4psi and theres no duel stage. it never goes up to 7. never has.

ill try unplugging it and running the hoses different

thanx

ok ive tried unplugging the solanoid and running the hose from the actuator to the intercooler piping ( Mega Slow after this yet still running 4psi, loses heaps of low down too). ive tried rewiring the cable with proper stuff that i bought instead of using stuff i had left over ( still slow running 4psi. not as slow as the other way tho).

is my last hope of waking this thing up to buy an expensive electronic boost controller?

and why does it not go up to 7psi like evryone else at 4500? im so confused

if you turn the key to "ON" can you hear the solinoid clicking? you may have to disconnect the ground cable and do it by hand with the key left in the "ON" position, so you can have you head in the engine bay listening for it.

yeah its still only boosting 4psi. even before i cut the wire it still only boosted 4psi. it never went up to 7.

its real dark out atm so ill try the clicking test tomorrow morning. got the day off work yay.

yeah, what i'm getting at is the solinoid may be stuffed. if it is it wont be bleeding off any air and the wastegate will only be opening to its normal 4-5psi. it may have been stuffed even before you got the car and that why you never got the higher boost level.

why dont you just buy a turbo tech boost controller from ebay. after my electronic boost controller started playing up, i put my old turbo tech back in. its great. easy to adjust, always holds boost. you cant go wrong for ~$30.

and then you eliminate the boost solenoid all together. if you think your solenoid is playing up, and you still want to replace it, PM me. I have a spare one here for R33, but i think theyre the same.

    • Thanks for that.... If only I could do something once and be happy with that, like some people do....
    • I had no transmission at all so I managed to find a big box manual gearbox from an R34 GTT for an insanely good price in EU. I converted it to push type which cost more than the transmission almost, with parts from Amayama! These engines are very strong and can put out decent power with a properly sized turbo. You can save on money from parts like pistons and rods, and invest those in the transmission and other parts. I suggest you join the RB20 Enthusiasts facebook group, plenty of info and almost daily posts there about 20DE/DET/Neo+T builds. (I hope I'm not breaking any forum rules by mentioning third party platforms, just trying to help the buddy out)
    • Yeah, having tried all of those methods including BBQ+recipro/hacksaw, I ended up buying a bush press kit under $150 that works well, like this: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/355967727167?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=705-154756-20017-0&ssspo=sfmmuhxgqhm&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=dJvnaZ11TB-&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY It basically has a range of pushers and cups with threaded rods between to press out a range of large bushes. The problem with any sawing solution is minimising damage to the subframe side, although it probably needs a quick sand afterwards no matter what solution you try due to damage
    • Hi. Thanks for the answer. I do not have instagram 😄 I too considering turbo the RB20DE NEO 🙂 But i think i upgrade the gearbox first or at least buy new.
    • Just pulled the passenger apart so got a good idea, also the side bracket that pivots the top half is completely cooked.. how I don’t know.. haha and paid $400 also included a photo of the passenger seat! She is mint
