I have seen oil surge in my R33GTS25t, I have 225/60x16s, DBA slotted rotors with EBC greenstuff. On hard stop from 60-70 kph with a full stop (ABS active) the oil light will flash for less than a second as the car stops!!!!

Better baffles or accusump are the only things that will really fix it, I drive round the problem at present but would like a cheap effective fix.

Most good speed shops should stock them. There are numerous places in Sydney.

From an independent US motorsport supplier...

The best and original coolers for motorsport, fitted as original equipment by most leading manufacturers, McLaren, Penske, Lotus etc.

Just bought one:) told me dimensions are 300 x 250 so not as huge as they look in the photos, besides a bit of extra oil never hurt anyone.

they use 3/4" banjo fittings (supplied) and the coolers are made by Serck;)

the guy told me that they are the same one Nismo use for their N1 models

Steve, Let me know how it goes, I plan on getting an oil cooler soon.

If you fit a fast acting oil pressure gauge you'll see that the RB25's suffer from oil surge just like the RB26's.

I think Sydneykid can modify the exisiting sump for extra capacity etc.

Paul, shall do, big cooler means extra oil volume too, cant hurt.

Brendan, definately will be fitting thermostat and remote filter, just need to fine some:) I am looking for a remote filter with thermostat, rather than inline sererate thermostat, but it is proving rather illusive. got quoted $20 per foot for braided 1/2" line from OG speed shop - going to have a look tomorrow.

    • I definitely agree with you there - I never click on content for cars I would never ever be able to get or compete with/against/be seen next to. Seeing a MX5 compete with a FD RX7 will make people upset though, for sure. Even in 2.5L Turbo form which is pretty grass roots. (or at least as grass roots as classic cars can be) Yes we're all classic car owners now.
    • Wonder what the cause is, but here's hoping it's nothing too serious.
    • People don't always want builds that are overly expensive, or have engineering/registration/insurance issues and head aches that come with them Whilst big dollar builds, and complicated stuff is interesting to watch, there is only a tiny % of people who would actually use this information, or have the spare finances to drop on said builds, whereas the buy a cheap(ish) cool car, and make it better, with a average budget, that the average Joe or Jane could achieve will always be a winner in my opinion
    • Bit of a thread revival, you mentioned wanting a bit more top end before, do you regret not going with the 1.01?
    • It's kind of interesting - They definitely do builds that split the difference between what they like and what will generate views and engagement. The NC Platform always surprises everyone in a good way, in an uncomfortably good way some may say. They could throw a LS in there and arguably have the best (and best performing) car of the entire stable. But that isn't necessarily what draws views, because people viewing don't want to accept the vegetables of a LS NC MX5 being a superior vehicle in every way (including fun) than a RB26 240Z. This is also why there's not a lot of content about the GR Yaris (on the web in general). They're too good, yet 'only a Yaris' The community doesn't want certain cars to be as good as they are - to beat their hero cars, and I believe the NC MX5 is absolutely one of those cars.
