bought my new car lastnight.....

pulled out of the dudes street....

highway patrol pulls me over.....

defect for bold tyres.....

has to be a record with that one haha less then a minute of owning the car and i get defected haha

at least it was only a cop shop though  the cop was very chill and i know he could have done more if he wanted but didnt

also gave me 120hours to drive the car. i thought the most you could get was 72? either way i bought new tyers and the cars off defect :P

think that might be the record, i think it was mac dog that was done within the first few minutes of buying his daily.

did u get off defect stewy??

and also you can get a fine when u get defected

it is called, breach of ADR's and the fine is bout $210, not fun when u get it every time you get defected

nah will be going through next week for a 2nd inspection, then on goes straight throughy zorst, 30mm spacers all round on my 17x9 +24's, drop it on its arse and take it to all japan day lol

Just hope that you dont get defected there again stewy

Had a lucky one today! Got pulled into a random licence check station near the Village, then get asked to pull off to the side.

Cop asked me to pop the bonnet and prepare for a roadworthy inspection, i nearly shat! As Krishy and Chad know, nothing is hidden in my engine bay! Open pod filter, boost controler solenoid, atmo catch can, intercooler and not the quietest exhaust. Both the cops were really nice guys, and surprisingly the older one knew what stuff was! Quick check around the car, asked about BOV (std plumback), bit of chit chat about the car then i was sent on my way!

My views of SAPOL have now changed :)

Missus reckons i've got the gift of the gab :(

Good to hear James. They're not as bad as you'd think. :(

haha i like ur stylez lol

and yeh who cares if you get done again, just dont bitch like everyone else on sau does when the get defected

what area you live in ?

the young cops around here are stuck up and they take it out on the younger drivers for unrealistic things :D

i live in port noarlunga but was pulled over in glenelg where i picked the car up from,

the cop was a champ!

hey guys,

my sa regoed 32 just got defected in melbourne last week, it done for too low and tyres are sticking out of the guards. Anyway, the officer said to me I can just peeled the sticker off while I'm back to sa, is that true? is my car still defective in sa and need to be clear the defect in here, or I just don't worry about it.

hope u guys can give me some advices,, thx

Edited by ericrx7
personally i would clear it, and that means a full regency inspection to my knowledge what if you feel the need to go to Melbourne again you will get reamed for not fixing it

how would regency inspection clear vic defect?

I can confirm. The SA police will have NO record of the defect on their system. I got done the same way while driving home from Melbourne and took it to the cop shop down here. They knew nothing of it and told me not to worry about it. However as I had to change over from WA to SA plates I needed an inspection as only on Regency's database does this defect come up. So yes, you can peel off the sticker and drive around, just don't go back to Melbourne or they will do you but I don't think you will be able to re-register your car while it's still defected in Melbourne. Best bet, call up TransportSA, I'm sure they can clear it up for you

thx heslo, my rego expire on next monday, I will try renew my rego in transportsa and see what happen. I will let u guys know. thx for the advices guys!

a defect station tried defecting the stag for the factory tint. at hackham.

then the tool claimed it was the windscreen he was refering too. how can someone be allowed to defect a car when they are so F**king cluless about roadworthy laws.

left without a defect sticker but a fine for not displaying rego sticker.

its stated that you have to have the rego sticker displayed....doesnt it???

well glad to see you didnt get defected for nothing mate

just wondering if i got defected for my front mount intercooler.. because the chassis is cut.

is there a way of hiding that?

what would be the best way of fixing it? or is there a certificate i can get to have it 'roadworthy'?

and what penalties am i looking at? like fines etc..

cheers.

Define "chassis is cut"

If you mean the circular hole underneath the washer bottle, that's fine, however if your reo bar has been cut to fit the FMIC then no, it's not legal and if you ever were defected you would need a new reo bar to pass

    • It's weird to me that you say this because I'm pretty sure locals with relatively standard standalone tunes (boost/barometric compensated alpha-N) still have driveability issues when they pop intercooler hoses. Maybe with enough data I can just train some kind of model that spits out an expected grams/cyl given every sensor input except MAF like what FCA did with their Pentastar 3.6 ECU logic. Basically stock everything. The main motivation honestly is to have a sensor that can be a decent baseline source of truth. In scenarios you're describing obviously it won't work every time but it seems to me the number of corner cases that exist in MAF load is maybe not as severe and difficult to manage vs ITB alpha-N with some MAP/barometric compensation.
    • What are your plans for your blow off valves? Purely plumb back? How soft will the spring in them be? AFM can be tricky to get super smooth and nice, especially depending on the rest of the system, and then can be very easily upset if something slightly changes. IE, even if you run recirc blow off valves, you could still see issues getting it to behave at certain load points as turbos might start to spool, but you release the throttle but it's not enough pressure to crack the bov open to recirc, and you can end up with reversion which can cause double metering, and hence dumping of fuel into the system, and stalling the engine.   If you're going to run a map sensor for closed loop boost control from the ECU, what makes you want to keep the AFM?
    • It's not bad, it's just not flexible. And say if you have any leaks between the MAF and plenum, well then your load axis goes out the window. Here's a real world scenario, I blew off an intercooler hose last track day, as the clamp decided to Bluetooth itself somewhere. Still continued to do 2 laps and drive it to the pub for a couple of beers then home. Good luck doing that with a MAF setup
    • Is MAF load really that bad? I'm not trying to do big power, my only real desire is VCAM and flex fuel support so I'm not terrified of blowing my engine apart from CA's appalling 95 RON "premium" fuel. Stuff like playing with closed loop boost control and really dialing in my transient fueling and ignition are frankly just to prove to myself I remembered something from uni.
    • Thats what ive been doing. Ive got a million questions but i know theyve probably all been answered before at some stage. Todays research included nismo heritage seat covers, s3 projector headlight retrofits and how to remove/paint the rocker covers
