Commonsense to remove something - Pay the big dollars for the job - Turbos aren't an easy change especially in a GTR - and then have to go through twice anyway and never knowing if the inspector could even tell the different, and in all honesty you can HARDLY even see the turbos in a GTR engine bay - Through the top and underneath.

We have different opinions and I know what I would do to potentially save $1k +-

I'm all for saving money ... goes good to other things that need doing. But I doubt they'll stop inspecting the turbos, just because they can't conveniently get to them. They have all sorts of gadgets to get around that.

I just don't wanna hear about you having to go thru Regency twice because of the turbos. I'm sure there a plenty of helpful folk here who can help you out over a BBQ and some beers.

Yeah, I agree. But the chances of your car getting through first time is very slim unless you take it to a mechanics and get them to inspect and fix everything that isn't 100%.

From my personal experiances with regency the best thing to do is send it through once, change the obvious things obviously (wheels, put a cat in if your running decat, turbo timer etc) and send it through because it is HIGHLY unlikley they'll let you just have the one inspection and clear you - Its all revenu fund raising for the government and the inspectors jobs to break out hearts and budgets lol.

Hence why I say why not just try and sneak the turbos through because the chance of them finding only the turbos holding you back from passing are very slim, and the 2nd visit is only like $80 so at the risk of paying $80 for the 2nd inspection fee to potentially save epic amounts from changing turbos I'd do it.

Woah that was massive and after working night shift.

Not by any means personally attacking you rubz, just passing on some personal experiance and advice with performance cars and regency :)

I didn't take it as a personal attack :) Its your car and you're passionate about it. No one likes their ride defected. I've NEVER had to take any of my own cars thru Regency to clear a defect (only my bike once), so I guess I'm fortunate ... and ignorant at the same time too ;) I'm just a big believer of "do it right, do it once" now.

Everyone is entitled to opinions. I don't agree with other people, they don't agree with me. If it was my car, I'd do everything and do it once. But its not my car now is it? :P

as mentioned earlier that cops browse these forums which is true....but let me tell you that guys at regency also read these forums.....

they are nice guys down there just depends on who you get on what kinda mood they have lol.......

Hi guy thanks for the advice.

Lack of air filters. :D i have put Z32 AFM's and am having trouble finding airfilters and adaptors to suit.

i'm very surprised they didn't pick on me for my exhaust as its fricking loud. i have my standard front pipe and cat

but no longer have a quiet enough exhaust from cat back.

i will change the more noticable things and try my luck at the cop shop. I'm not too sure weather i'm allowed to drive it there

or what. do i need a permit or something??

Thanks again people

Seems pretty bad in SA, when I went there a whiole back to get dynoed I was pulled over four times 'Just lookin' they said, and your a bit low for SA.

Damn it was 10mm down!

Anyway sold it now cause after the wifes Familia was called up by RTA by letter, luckily NO mods, I could not take the chance as EVERYTHING was modded.

Then the barstards said the Familia had no baby seat mounts. I had been shown when we bought it so knew they were in there somewhere.

"I have been an inspector for 30 years, and I know this Mazda does not have them so take it away and get it fixed!"

YEAH Riiiiiight - whats this then?

"Oh I must have forgotten that was where they were, get going, but take that GOR sticker off though"

my friend got defected to regency on the weekend.

she got pinged for an oil leak and horn not working.

the car is yes a commonwhore but almost stock and very very clean inside and out. she has 16s on it and a cat back exhaust the only mods.

tis funny as her oil leak wasnt actually a leak. it was the typical breathing through the seals in the rocker cover as all cars do. was moreso a gathering of road shit than anything. they just wanted to defect a mother of one with two kids in the car. now she has no car and no money to pass regency. bad luck for the kids hey. luckily her bro is a mechanic and does everything 100%. some cops need to do there research and i think they really should take a basic mechanical workshop to find out what real things are. this is only some tho. others i wouldnt dare to question.

You can drive it defected only if your going to a police station or a place of repair as long as it still has rego.....once the rego expires then you will be forking out $45 permit for a day to drive it anywhere

incorrect....those days are long gone.........you need to specify where you're going exactly and must take the shortest possible route

Since when? I test drove an rz tt supra about a month ago which wasn't regoed and the guy had a 24hr permit for it stuck on the window so i could test drive it.

dunno then....ring rego office and ask for a 1 or 2 day pass to drive anywhere and for the whole day and see how you fair

he may have had a pass on there but was using it illegally cause you are required to nominate where you're going (ie. place of repair or Regency).

The fine print on that pass would've had that info on there.

You can indeed get the, provided the car hasnt been defected, i know of my uncles roommates cousins best friends neighbour whos internet buddy got a weekend pass for his shitbox cause he wanted to go to the beach.

:P

If its defected, who knows, you'd be best off calling rego dept like peat suggests

If you can get the stuff listed on 'minor defect' you can get it cleared at the police station - I'm curious about the no air filter - does that mean you have pods instead of a box, or do you have a box with the filter medium removed?

Getting the filter fixed and new tyres is infinately cheaper than having to go thru regency, mainly because you will need to go thru twice by the sounds of it, and removing the turbo and cams is a big job. You'll definately need to remove the boost controller and turbos, you may get away with leaving the cams in. Regency know what to look for, you can't bluff them on EBC and turbo timer (and if you have a turbo timer, just get rid of it, TT's are only useful on track cars).

I'd be fixing those things and visiting sturt police station or another one which can clear it for you. Regency inspection will cost you a lot more.

-D

Why do you say turbo timers are only useful on on track cars?? when every manufacture of turbo cars recommends idling your car for a period of time after driving the car hard to cool the turbo down....sitting in the car park for 2 minutes cooling the turbo is not my idea of fun... hence turbo timers on the street cars are a practical idea sadly not legal... just a point of view not a diss!!
