Wrong.

If that is all you got done for I would ring and ask.

Is that all thats illegal ?

tighten the pod. Show somehow that the lights are stock . Worth trying mate

Not wrong at all dude, all 3 things are illegal so he needs to cop it on the chin and go to regency just like me and everyone else that's been defected before.

For HID's to be legal the car must have auto leveling headlights which R34's dont.

Hey all, thanks for feedback. i know that the 3 components are illigal. but its not in classifed under "major" department so i dont know why i have to go through regency to clear it. I say this basing on facts that the cop could tell its HID, tested the tint and seen the pod, im sure with a little common sense they can see i have removed it too give me the clear instead of paying extra $143 bucks. But then again, they are money hungry.

Yeah ill give them a buzz tomorrow and see where it takes me, better asking then not.

take it on the chin dude. i got minor'd last year for tint, too low, and a boost gauge.

did i have to go to regency? yes.

did i try to get out of it? yes.

did i succeed? no.

did i pass anyway? yes.

Are you talking stock xenon lights ? If so you have nothing to worry about.

Ive been thru and they have said nothing.

You havent changed the lights have you ? they are stock xenon like you said in your original post ?

Just asking as I know it isnt cheap changing lights over etc.

Uhhh .. wanna bet? I was defected purely for my exhaust (though the officer also added a bracketed side-note about my factory tint being too dark too - the regency guy laughed and passed it). I had the exhaust fixed (the inspector didn't even bother checking it - grrr), but they picked me up on many other things including my factory-fitted xenons, forcing me to come back and pay a re-inspection fee. They even called a coupla blokes over to check and double-check - they specifically mentioned auto-levelling and washers and my car not having them. Acting dumb and 'i bought it like that' didn't get me anywhere here.

I ended up using a fog/spotlight wiring loom with relays, etc that I picked up at supercheap for maybe $20, wired that into the fuse box to activate with the headlight switch, then modified some globes to fit in the Xenon housing, and ran the wiring loom into each of my Xenon housings. It's all nicely fused in the fusebox, making it super-easy to change between xenon and regular halogen globes - maybe 10 minutes max (change fuse position, change globes). It was good enough to pass regency, but I gotta say - I tried driving it at night (night before the inspection) and I wouldn't recommend it as a long-term solution. Whilst the globe focus is in the exact spot as factory, the reflector housing makes the light output dangerously low at night (I honestly don't know how people with converted xenons manage - its horrible!). Total cost was maybe $40, including globes.

I looked around for non-xenon housing at the time, but couldn't find any in good condition at the right price - so dodgy hack it was. I wouldn't recommend leaving them non-xenon, but perhaps running a lower K (I believe they were 4300K from the factory) may avoid you ending up in regency in the first place.

Hey all,

I got done on sat night, cop was a complete ass despite i was being polite and respectful to him. anywhos here its goes got pulled over down gouger, cop check alcho-breath tested me, i was in clear. then asked year of my car etc was a 98 gtt. i got done for HID lights, they were like 5000k rating so fair enough. I said nissan made then standard from factory and his like no they didnt thus it is illigal.. (im like wtf in my head). i even pointed out the XENON on my head lights.

i could tell he stuttered when i said that, he had a rookie next time him as i could tell as he was showing teaching him. The manner of which he spoke to me was pretty rude.

i got done for TINT being 18%, HID, Pod not securly mounted. Ok all is fair, but what i dont understand is why i have to go to "regency" and not a simple police check. because it is not rocket science to tell a car has HIDS or not and they can test if the TINT is legal n see if pod is mounted properly with brackets ect? Could i call up the police station and ask this or no point? police station check = approx $40 whereas regency = $143? on my green sheet, he selected it as a MINOR defect yet it has to be checked at VEHICLE INSPECTION STATION..

Could you guys share some light, as this is my first time defected. what a headmess ==

anywhos i over heard the older cop saying keep your eyes out for skylines tonight etc to his rookie. bald old tall cop guy with glasses.

cheers

Lee

maybe this happens when a cop that knows less pulls you over. a) makes him feel tough infront of the apprentice.. b) "let regency deal with it, because i have no clue what a engine looks like"

If you have stock xenon's you still cant run HID globes, all skylines/stageas have there globes changes at compliance to halogen.

The fact that the defect is marked as major or minor makes no difference in regards to going to regency, I think that a major defect means that the car must be towed away and can't be driven at all until the car is fixed/inspected.

The point im trying to get across is.

He pointed to the xenon signing on the lights to show the cop. stating they were stock. I may have miss read but I do not see where he said he changed them to HID/?

I have stock xenon lights. they passed regency twice. They came to Australia and passed regency in the first place.

i got done for HID lights, they were like 5000k rating so fair enough.

I have xenons in my stagea also but the globes have been replaced with halogens to pass compliance same as yours would of been.

the lights still say xenon, but the ballasts were taken out and wiring modified at compliance to suit standard halogen globes, because the xenon kit doesnt have a self-levelling feature.

Not every car straight out of compliancing and off for sale gets converted - mine didn't, I'm the first owner in australia and my compliancing papers saying they were changed over- but they weren't.

This isn't that uncommon from what I gather - they use a compliancing set to pass initially then just swap 'em back when it comes to sale time. TBH given what ive seen of the light output from converted xenons vs factory non-xenon I'll take the risk of getting defected and converting temporarily for inspection.
