When you have called them Krish about that give us a call so I know what's happening. As soon as I got out the car he said it's getting defected and towed.

Then that demonstrates prejudice... He's already decided the car in question was defectable without having inspected it. Quota system. I would like to say that a competent lawyer would be able to get it overturned upon this basis, but the fact that there was a defectable unit involved means that the cops have been vindicated.

You *could try* and remove that turbo and return it to stock, remove the EBC and argue the fact that the officer in question pointed to the master cylinder. A lawyer could subpoena said officer and ask him to point out the BOV/EBC whatever and if he does it to a stock piece of equipment, case closed - however, the likelihood of this happening is very remote, a) the police prosecutor is wise on such things and advises officers about how to act in court (same way a lawyer advises civilians basically). and b) its really really expensive to hire a lawyer and correct injustice. Cheaper to cop it on the chin, get the car engineered, reverted, whatever... I had a good chat with my cousins husband on Sun about this, he's a police negotiator who doesn't deal much with traffic offences, but knows the relevant law.

Interestingly, he works up near the north border of our state, in a community with 99% aboriginals. They don't defect cars up there. Period.

They do enforce licences, but as far as registration and roadworthiness, FORGET IT! They have enough problems with violence to provoke the indigens with 'trivial white man law'. Funny to think that we get defected for having an EBC and yet the natives can drive around the country with bald tyres, no registration, seatbelts, windshields etc without the law caring. Just saying.

Edit - Agree with heslos comment about shit happening, but I have to disagree with the cop comment (not because of the cop I spoke to yesterday mind..) In my personal experience, I have been pulled over twice in the last 4.5 years of driving, never defected, only breathod and rego checked. And both times they have been nice. Maybe its cause they see my ID or not, or maybe its cause I'm a nice guy. Either way, as much as I fret about getting pulled over and reamed for something trivial, I've been lucky and I can't really dis SAPOL for checking my licence and rego and bretho.

NO - Ive never done a "skid" before.

Never, not once since I got my L's on my 16th birthday 18years ago.

My poison was "going fast" back when I used to ride bikes, so I know Ive done wrong previously, however that being said, I dont go over the limit simply because I couldnt afford to pay out a speeding fine! That, and with the fear of defect, my Stagea is for sale.

I have to agree with Tangles here.

I've never done 'a skid' - I've been stupid on the roads before, got caught, done the penalty and copped it sweet (drink driving, dangerous - 11 yrs ago) but since I got the GTR I've never dared risk it cause I need my licence and any criminal charges would really screw my career. You can't assume that everyone with a high powered car is a dickhead. I'm 32 now, I did my dumb shit when I was 21 and learnt from it. And I avoid going over the limit for the same reasons as Tangles.

I'll never sell the GTR. If it does get defected for something minor, I'll fix it. If its for something major, I'll engineer it or remove the defectable item. I've driven my car >as a daily< and not had a fraction of the problems some lads have had.

That said, Krishy's car is pretty hardcore. Its impressive to watch and I guess thats what the po-po radar picked up on and decided 'oh that needs to be taken out'... I'm not saying its right (far from it) but eh, the cynic in me is not surprised.

I just hope u keep ur car Krishy... its a good one...

Yeah I will be looking into what needs to be done to have things engineered. For eg. Turbo etc

Need a full spectrum emissions test, called the IM240, you will need low boost, a fantastic CAT convertor, O2 sensor working and all the O2 feedback working, and the tune to be perfect, too rich and you fail on carbon monoxide, too lean and you fail on nitrogen compounds.

You will want a competent tuner with a gas analysis machine to get it fairly right and then come along and tweak what needs to be tweaked when you fail the first time. It is around $1k a pop when you go so you want to get it right.

Need brakes upgraded and they will probably want to do a lane change test and a few other things. Adds up very fast.

Dont bother. Just take it back to stock, put it through then put all the shit back on again. Its the easier and cheapest way

Krishy - so just how modified *is* your car?

It wouldn't be a bad idea to get a list of stuff, to figure out what's legal, what can be cheaply engineered, and what would be needed to be reverted to stock.

That said, apparently SA police do trawl these forums. Maybe we need a 'defect' section in the members only area.

Suspension components would be handy to have engineered, coilovers/arms....anything adjustable etc.

You can't engineer a lot of that stuff as adjustable arms are rose jointed etc, simply can't be done.

Same with adjustable coilovers, need a perch welded so that it can't be lowered to an illegal height.

well thats just ghey! lol ah the law is the law i guess

They do it for a reason

Interesting discussion on rose joints here

have seen coilovers engineered and accepted by regency on two sepeate cars without having the adjustability fixed

It doesn't have to be fixed, you just can't be able to lower it below legal height, it can be adjustable above the minimum height.

If they let it through it doesn't mean it is a precedent either, they might have just not cared that day.

i was more referring to the adjustablility factor, ie adjustable tension rods etc. since our cars cant really be properly aligned without kits

You can have adjustable kits, you just typically can't have rose joints, unless the manufacturer provides a list of all materials used and you have them crack tested, then you could get an engineer to argue they are just as strong if not stronger than a standard bushing set up.

makes sense i guess, although most adjustable kits are rose jointed which sucks!

    • Just wanted to pop in an update on my setup. The CD swap has been great, I love the mazworks housing for the overall simplicity. I ended up sealing my trans tunnel with a thin sheet of aluminum reused some of the holes on the trans tunnel, and laid some window sealing EPS foam around the edges. Works great, really quieted things down and sealed up the car.  As for the power comment. Right now I am also running about 650whp. with the way the bell housing is attached to the face of the transmission I have zero doubts it would be fine, mainly because the input shaft and main shaft bearings are seated into the bell housing adapter. This means the load is NOT on the bolts to maintain the power, rather into he casing of the bell housing; Yes the bolts are doing some work there, but with both shafts locked in zero worries.  End of the day, the Mazworks solution is the easiest and safest. no need to take your trans to a shop to get milled perfectly, it fits with minimal clearancing, and you can use all your existing clutch and flywheel.  Driving wise the CD has been great compared to the big box, I'll probably swap my final drive at some point. The serial 9 shifter is gooooood, my only qualm is how tight it is, it takes a fair bit to get use to, 5th and 6th are a bit eh/hard to find at times, but maybe I need re-adjusting, and I think my clutch master is very tired and needs a rebuild.
    • If you are keen, have a look at my build thread. Car is for sale for the right money or straight swap for a F80 M3 LCI.
    • Welcome mate.  No point in over thinking it, buying any one of those cars you mentioned is not a smart or logical choice with the availability of many "better" (re price to performance) cars available to you.  The heart wants what the heart wants, buy whatever it leads you too.
    • Hey everyone! Im so grateful to be apart of this community and ill do my best to be apart of this. Firstly, i'm not disclosing my real name due to in real life circumstances surrounding my privacy and public image (sorry lol) Secondly, The only thing personal I am willing to share is that I'm from Sydney and a descendant of one of Sydneys largest mortgage firms. I got gifted my first ever car, a 2022 Porsche Cayenne and I love it to death. Ive been driving it for about 5 or 6 months now and honestly Im so grateful for my parents for gifting me this vehicle. However recently I've been working my ass off to afford my second car (which I need help deciding soooooo community help me out please?). Once decided, im planning to try modify it myself. Recent I've been thinking about getting a Skyline, particularly a 25GT or GT-V, yes I know overrated as hell, but I'm also considering a Chaser which I recently came to love. However my dream is to one day own a 180SX (So hard to find clean versions and im not really into importing).  Lastly before I send this off, I want to apologize if I sound tacky or pretentious. I try not to and want to genuinely learn from everyone and anyone. (Im no expert in this area) Thanks for reading!
