On the topic of engineering, where do you guys get your cars engineered? And does it actually stop the popos from defecting you? I'd be willing to pay $3k or whatever for it if it does keep the hassle away, paid $1.2k of labour last time i got defected and i'm planning to have this car for a while, 3 months of ownership and been defected once already.

Had a cop behind me today, drove past some parked cars and i set off a car alarm unintentionally, 50m later he had his lights flashing to pull me over. Popped bonnet etc. etc.

Didn't give me a defect but he said if he sees me driving around again he'll defect me. Tempted to just keep some stuff in the boot and say i'm on the way to the workshop if he does see me agian.

Anyway long story short, i cannot be fked with defects anymore, i'd like to get into engineering the car.

Where do you suggest?

I had a conversation with Kahli about the engineering on her R32, she said she used a younger guy and he didn't charge her too much for the engineering of her RB26, Suspension and Bodykit. Unfortunately she didn't give me a name or contact number.

Mine doesn't vent so i guess that's fine. Damn, and my FPR is just sitting in my bay visible....

Oh and regarding rims/tyres....i've got mine dialed in with -'ve camber so they do sit under the guards, but only JUST...but that's just the top of the rim, ie. the top of the rim/tyre sits under the guard then as the camber sets in at the bottom of the rim/tyre it sits outside. Defectable?

i mean like a strut cover, so it covers the damper control so you can't see the top of the coilover from the engine bay?

He means the dust cover... (I think?) rigid plastic that fits over the top of the strut, generally you have to cut it to size depending on how low the suspension travel is

Seem to remember one being a part of SydneyKids old suspension overall group buy

-D

Edit - nope, i was wrong. He means a cover over the top of the strut pillar in the engine bay, so one cannot see the adjustable dampening control

You been defected already?

With the rims you need to calculate the gain in track, the gain in rim size and compare to standard. The modifications laws give a percentage larger than stock, do some research and you can find all the documents, or call up regency and they will tell you.

so, i let my dad take my 33 gtr to the shops (harbourtown woolworths) to get a few things for tea...

as he was left the carpark, he took off from the lights and hadnt even crossed the intersection an unmarked patrol turned his lights on and pulled him over... str8 away the cop had attitude, didnt even say hello- just said pop the bonnet sir... my dad proceeded to do so but my bay looks completly stock apart from oil filter relocation.

he then shut the bonnet and went str8 for the lil dash compartment on the right hand side where he found the turbo timer which doesnt work but still defected my dad for....

didnt mention the coil overs, tint, 3.5 exhaust, height but its regency anyway for that 1 piss weak thing...

my dad also asked sooooooo y did u pull me over- his response was "hoons drive these cars, we need them off the road"!!! my dad replied with im 53 yrs old, look at my driving record- the car is in his name for insurance reasons

cop was pop and thought he knew everything- WATEVER

anyway, should b off this fri with a few things changed over... just qwatch out around the west beach area atm

That's pretty much the attitude that I got from the po po when I got done. I was like seriously WTF. For some reason I don't think they even look at your driving record. Driving an import is worse than actually commiting murder these days

Seriously please write a complaint about that incident. The officer clearly didn't give your father any reason as to why he was pulled over. They can't pull you over just to issue a defect. A complaint won't help your situation but if every person who was issued a bullshit defect took te time to write a complaint in, maybe things might change. We shouldnt had to put up with that sort of bullshit.

    • I did a skidpan night at SMSP this week, it was much cheaper than $350. But yeah, you need to slap an LSD in that thing.  I put an OS Giken in the 370Z and it's f**king MARVELOUS even compared to Nissan's viscous LSD. So you're saying it's free now that it's a housing estate? 😂
    • Nah, the car seems to run exactly as it did prior, in saying this it does "seem" to be better down low, like more eager to rev, but that may be 100% placebo effect from intake noise But, I'm not worried about it at all, in the end it is a fairly low compression NA engine that has a well shrouded intake,  if it is getting hotter IAT I cannot notice anything negative performance wise from the seat of my pants thrashing it about on the street or sitting in traffic, so meh, car now now makes induction noise so I'm happy
    • Do you have an IAT sensor? It's worth checking it to see. You may be suprised how little gap you actually need to flood your engine with hot air. (I tape up my airbox for a reason) :p
    • @KinkstaahKrinkle paint the "silver" alloy, not the red filter frame Engine bay heat won't be a issue worth worrying about as the silver alloy blocks it off on 3 sides, as for the top, the bonnet seals most of it and the big OEM CAI intake snorkel is still fitted in its original position  I will head into Clark's Rubber when I have some time to grab some pinch weld to tidy up the alloy after I paint it As for performance, I honestly wasn't expecting any, the only reason I got it is because the intake noise sounds cool to my old ears when I'm feeding it the beans Sometimes it's the silly things you do in in life that gives the most fun, and I do love anything that makes cool car noises In other news: I survived 4 nights at sea with Jackie not throwing me over board, holidays are continuing now as we are currently chilling at the Beachcomber in Toukley, after taking the coast roads from Sydney in the MX5, top down all the way, Toukley is where I spent a good deal of my youth holidaying during the summer months, there's lots of reminiscing going on,  and lots of beaches and old houses to visit Next on the list is to head to Batemans Bay for a few days, but we will take the Commodore out to stretch its legs, then Commodore hasn't really moved for months
    • There’s probably people who’d like to do it and then when it comes to putting their hands in their pockets they’ll all disappear into the shadows
