you can still re-register a defected car if you really wanted.

it has to be done manually rather then electroniclly so you must go into a rego office and they fill out a paper type rego.

once cleared, you take the paper form of rego to a rego office and they transfer the remaining rego to their computer and give you a legit rego sticker.

Yeah but to get the permit to get rego he needs to drive to the police shop, which he cant do without rego, unless it still has rego now?

nah, he doesnt have to deal with the cops first. a permit to drive from the cops would be useless if its not rego'd as even with the back of the defect paperwork is filled out your not legally allowed to drive a unrego'd car (stating the obvious, i know)

all he needs in a regency date before he goes into rego a defected car. the car does not have to be with you just your rego and defect forms.

they will check your regency date, or at least wait on hold for as long as they can stand and have to take your word for it.

once it has the manual rego filled out, he can get a permit from the cops (the back of the defect paper work filled out) to drive the car around while defected.

you are allowed to drive a defect car without a permit if you are going to the cop station to get a clearence to drive.

BE WARNED, if a cop pulls you over and the mods listed on defected paper work are not actually cleared, he holds all right to pull your permit to drive till your regency date an youll be up shit creek as your car will need to be towed.

i have done this more then my fair share. i used to always for some reason get defected just before my rego ran out :P

EDIT: i just re-read what you wrote chad. the rego office doesnt have to have a clearence on the back of the defect notice before giving temp rego. if thats what you meant?

I got defected last week for ride height, the thing is my ride height was fine. the cop wasn't using a tape measure he was estimating using his notebook! i had know way to prove him wrong. so now have to go through rengency, what a joke.

i got done the similar way.....except mine was a "suspected suspension damage" so i dont know whats worse...

i would just get it measured by a suspension place and if its all good challenge them in court i guess

cops notebook is 100mm tall which he runs under the lowest part of the car.......I had a similar thing happen to me when a cop followed my bike to JK's shop (Cara was there too when he went over the thing)....no defect though, instead he followed me back home to grab a poster for his kid, lol

Castor rod and camber arms are as far as I know. Mech 2 way is also, but I have known people to get through with one even with it chirping away in front of the inspectors. Sway bars should be fine. What does the tension rod do? Is it like a rear strut brace or something?

it bolts on the front infront of the sway bar to make the front end more rigid afaik

anyone know if the following are illegal?

non adjustable sway bars - fine

tension rod - not legal

rear camber arms - not legal

castor rods - not legal

2 way mech diff - if they can prove it :)

there you go mitch

i doubt they are different

gtr's run 10psi stock if im correct and im running an rb20 actuator which does 12 so it shouldnt be a problem?

there is no way they will be able to tell the difference, I don't think it will be an issue.

sway bar shouldnt be an issue, camber arms they'll fail you for because theyre rose jointed or some shit, tension rod/castor rod... same same? either way, if its adjustable, get rid of it, and if they question your diff chirping along, say it was recently rebuilt.

    • But if I smoke test 5th cylinder it’s all ok, no leaks  when I try with 2nd it’s leaking exhaust and intake, it doesn’t come from oil dip stick.    so maybe when car was running poorly, rich or sth. Spark plugs were black and covered in charcoal or sth lookalike. could potential contamination make valves not seal properly? is there also a possibility that rb’s don’t have equal performing cooling passages  meaning back of the engine will be hotter than front. Can this cause improper wear if engine was running under load for short time? Or carbon build up could just burnt from 4-6 and is still on 1-3?   I out of my head like really. Timing is as manual crank-exhaust 47, exhaust-intake 38 at this point I thinking about give it a try and make another 500-1000km and check if anything change, if not I will most likely disassemble engine head /or whole engine and send it back to rebuild. It’s killing me
    • Thanks Duncan, I don't have a GTR these days mate. Gone soft..
    • Yeah. air pressure leakdown test is where I would be headed next here, using one's ears to determine whether it's the valves or bores/rings leaking...
    • More likely you didn't bed the rings in correctly and have glazed the bores. Running with misfires on a fresh build is somewhat of a no-no. Surely no-one "smoke tests" the combustion chamber? That's what a leakdown test is for. Smoke testing is, um, a bit of a wank at best, and only really useful for external pipework.
    • Well, obviously that kit is not a relocation kit or anything other than just the original isolators and the like. I would suggest that it should be a matter of just bending up some flat bar to build a mount over the top of some other diff, with the flat bar held to the back of the diff by the rear hat bolts. A little welding, a little thinking about how to secure the front of this structure, maybe some different hoses in case you can't get it in just the right place.
