The Defected Thread...

From what I've experienced, the majority police are untrained, and if they feel something "isn't quite right" they'd rather just send to Regency and have you fork out the inspection fee rather than educate themselves.

Whilst I can understand that at some level - they can't really be expected to train all their officers, and it's better for them to err on the side of caution (ie: send it to Regency than not), I also tend to think that if you are caught in that situation, that at the very least there needs to be some a) oversight and b) some recourse such that you can consult with another officer, or get something from Regency (without an inspection) to prove that you're meeting the regulations and don't require an expensive inspection.

Even the trained officers, don't seem to know everything either. The guy who defected me a while back looked at my factory privacy glass and told me it was tint and it would need to be removed. When I pointed at the sticker showing it was in the glass, he said I'd be up for replacing all of the glass as it was darker than legal. Needless to say, the inspector at Regency laughed at the officer when he saw it listed - but he was unable to provide me any evidence to show future officers if I ever got picked up.

I believe the QLD system has 'mod plates' listing modifications; Perhaps that's something SA could consider - it might help alleviate this problem - though given cops are trying to defect for factory items (stock BOVs, privacy glass, etc) - I'm not 100% convinced it'll work.

yeh he just kept going around in circles it was painful to try and have a civilized conversation.

just a quick question to make sure i havn't misunderstood anything, you can still hear the bov through the pod filter even if its plumbed back properly right? cos he said "i could hear it which makes me suspect that its illegal."

I dont want to take the issue too far and be made out like an idiot either haha

Noise aside, they'll just try and hit you with the whole AFM/Fuel Emissions thing. While you could be using MAP sensor setup, they aren't normally stock, etc etc, it moves on and on, hence you don't want to be using atmo's for what it's worth in the first place. But stock, plumbed setups.. poor judgement at it's worst, and something that could simply be trained to the police in the same way most workers have a pre-start for the day, or a toolbox meeting each week, etc.

The gen pop in SA do run stock BOV's, unless:

- they dgaf about being defected

- love the chicks sussing their ride when they do laps of hindley

- the car cant get enough air out of stock ones, so quiet aftermarkets are installed.

the truly munted thing is, im effectively running straight pipes - twin cannons at the tips and a y piece feeding a resonator..

and ive never experienced any real harrasment

maybe cos i rock the shirt and tie but tbh the car drones really badly and in 4 yrs only ever been pulled over twice and zorst noise was never mentioned

-D

Edit - re damos post re bovs, some people just run stockers cos they give the best performance. writeoff was talking to me about a bov issue some years ago where the aftermarket bovs wouldnt actually perform properly when compared to the stocker

that depends on what the aftermarket ones were, and how much psi was being run through the system.

RB20 ones are useless after 18psi, rb25 around 20psi... dont open/close quick enough and cause issues with boost leaks.

sapol is a f**king joke, absolutely sick of the poorly educated officers that just get off on being able to get away with diarrhea that dribbles out of their mouths. makes me want to just sell my car and give up

Just don't drive like a dick on the streets, avoid town and bay cruising and anything else that draws unnecessary attention to yourself and you shouldn't have any issues.

I've driven overly loud modified skylines for the last 5 years and never been defected. The 3 times I've been pulled over I got off.

will i need to put the cover that sits above the coilpacks back on?

and can i just join the two hoses that go out to my ebc together instead of doing it at the actuator?

nah you wont, i got through without one , they didnt even say anything about it

make sure you have a boost solenoid in and just plumb it up so it looks connected , remove your ebc solenoid as that will be a straight up fail :P
