Have you done a compression/leak down test yet on the engine?

heh, not really looking forward to that... it that's the case i can just bin the engine...

its getting really hopeless and im even considering getting rid of the car...

list of things i already tried:

- replace sparkplugs

- replace coil packs

- replace injector

- replace ignition module

- check connections on coil packs and injectors

as i already mentioned it's only on 1st cylinder, because if i unplug coil pack or injector on any other cylinder it gets even worse...

one fact that might be helpful is that is started misfiring shortly after i installed walbro fuel pump, because old one was stuffed.

other than that... no clue... tried absolutely everything that could be causing misfire except compression leak...

can you also recommend me any good mechanic in Adelaide for this situation that wont charge me more than car is worth to fix it?

what ecu are you using??

the other day my car rb20det with a microtech was running fine, turned it off for fueling started it up and it ran on 4 cylinders. limped home shut it off then started againg and it ran fine...

check your injector loom for rubbed through wires. maybe when you unplug it, it moves the wires then they touch and earth out again??

another thing you can try is swap #1 injector with # 2 injector and see if the problem swaps to #2 cylinder.

you can also do this with coils to find faulty coils.

my pulsar did exactly the same thing as your car,

i know its not the same engine but it might be kinda the same problem.

we checked everything

like it would sould like wrx then it would come right at high speed. but then it would sometimes not....

in the end it was the head gasket.

might wanna do a compression test. get that head fixed asap if it is,

because you dont want it to warp.. try not to drive it much.

Any news on this? Mine started doing it today :D

turned out it wasn't a head gasket... it was a coil pack all along, just a different one... but here's the thing:

When it initially started misfiring i tested each cylinder and found it was first coil pack... so i replaced it, it was alrigth for a day but then started misfiring again and I (idiot) just assumed it was first one again so I tried doing replacing everything on first cylinder; injectors, sparkplugs, loom, ignition module, did compression test... then when i was really desperate i tested each cylinder again, and found out that first cylinder is not misfiring anymore, but it was 6th that time... so i replaced 6th coil pack and now it's running smooth as...

try these steps for your car:

1. when the car is running try disconnecting each coil pack... when you disconnect a working one car will sound even rougher, but when you disconnect a faulty one it will stay same... that way you'll find out which cylinder is misfiring... if all of them are it's probably fuel pump

2. try replacing (in order of most likely in my opinion):

- spark plugs

- coil pack

- fuel injector

- ignition module

- loom

3. if it's none of these do compression test, but as many people already said, head gaskets are rarely an issue

let me know if you have any question... i've just been through all these steps recently so I might be helpful

    • Yeh... literally every time i jump on a forum, see an instagram post or see an engine bay at a car show, i get an idea and add it to my 'to do' list. So what started off as, hey can u just make a couple of intake hard pipes because my dumbass bought the wrong apexi kit, blew out into a 2 week job including braided brake lines & custom bash kit for the front lip haha.  Getting Luke from A4E engineering to make a full custom exhaust with a controllable aes dump valve so i can actually switch between quiet and loud, because right now its just loud all day every day. Then after that go and get the tune redone flex e85 & 98 as i get bugger all milage from e85, makes going for longer drivers difficult
    • Car looks clean as. You ended up getting quite a bit done 😂  So what's the plan for the exhaust?
    • The only Neo rods that were any different to any other RB25 rods were the DET ones, and they were the same as RB26. Here is a Neo DET rod. O5U part number visible. Here is a post in a thread here on SAU with evidence from someone who has done this before. There are photos in the thread of normal RB25 rods.
    • Sure, but why assume that will be the case forever? And why assume you'll be able to do an oil change to swap back to a stock drain bolt before that happens? And does it even matter when I change the oil at fairly short intervals? Life can be funny sometimes and unexpected things can happen. Like breaking a collarbone so you can't do any work on your car for a few months but the oil change is due so you have to take it to somewhere and hope they don't do something stupid like stacking the new drain plug washer on top of the old one.
    • Do u know how to identify the rods are rb25 or neo ones? Can u look into the pics and tell me is they de or de neo ones. Its confusing becoz my motor has de neo head but block is 25de 75t, so really confusing me about rods, crank.
