Chalk One More Up For The Frindge Dwellers

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

With all the discussion regarding R35 pricing, here's a headsup on one about to come on the market in addition to Richards one.

Its a Premium, you can see the photos below.

This one was brought in during the exchange rate crisis.

Its currently at Autostyle, they'll list it for a touch under $200k driveaway.

I cant wait for these to be more common on Aussie roads, they're such a great looking car!

Here are some random pics;

Stunning car no doubt about it but 200k for a Datsun, no way! The Aussie dollar will bounce back sometime in the future as well as a drop in value of the yen so these cars will be available for a hell of a lot cheaper then 200k that’s for sure!

Maybe true, but Australia is full of cashed-up people that aren't bothered too much about price and want a GTR TODAY!!! :D It'll sell, while they have rarity on their side they won't last at pretty much any price.

Judging by the plates it has even more sales appeal to our oriental cousins :)

they already are available cheaper... I have one available for about $170odd K on the road. so anywhere from $20K-$30K cheaper than this one. with about the same options too.

mighty tempting. I do like $39.05 and there's no telling when I'll need another kidney. I mean, you can't predict when hanibal lecter will pop in for dinner and the bugger is always hungry for kidney and a bottle of chianti. buuutt I think I'll hold out a bit longer yet.

Sorry, but anyone with half a brain (or a means of using the internet) will know that "a touch under $200K" is fairy-land for this car  Oh so you say, "but it's JDM"... HA, $200K for a car with no official warranty LOL

would a 8 of my female, jailbait friends sweeten the deal?

and. if someone were to spend 200k on a car with no warranty, i think they would have the money to fix it if it broke

actually, he's right. the guys with 200k to blow on a car, often go ahead and void their warranties by modding to their tastes.

seen it plenty of times. doesnt phase them a bit.

if you're gonna be fragile about a 200k car, then you cant really afford it :P

If this car is in such high demand then why haven't the 3 'grey import' cars on 'carsales' not sold yet. They have been for sale for months now and they've now dropped their prices again. I guess with zero support from Nissan why would you buy one of them considering the amount of maintenance these cars seem to need. Oh and a lazy 30k for a replacement gearbox if needed!

Sorry but you speak of a very small minority when it comes to that (I myself being part of that minority) but most people with 200K+ cars don't "go ahead and void their warranties'...

Driving a car like its supposed to be driven is one thing - you see a lot of exotic owners do that. How many Ferraris or Lambos do you see around where the owner has deliberately gone and voided the warranty?

well plenty of people shelled out over $100K for R34 GTRs when they were freshly imported and they had no warranty. and 10 years ago I would say $100K is easily equivalent to $170K today. Plus any new ferrari we are talking more than double that. I mean what's a base F430 these days? $400K?

I don't think anyone would deliberately do something to void warranty but plenty of people will need to turn off VDC which according to nissan does void warranty. and plenty of people will want small mods like a chip, or exhaust etc which again probably voids warranty. plus from the number of R35s out there, reported problems have been so very tiny. and the cars with breakages were all heavily abused, heavily modified or both. so there was no chance for those guys to claim faulty car. it was faulty ownership!

munkyboy is right though. most of the guys I know seriously looking at, or already purchased R35s warranty is not top of their list of concerns. they want it delivered in a timely fashion (one thing nissan has failed to do) and they want all the performance etc that is promised. and many of them do want to mod it, track it etc.

could always just buy another R35 thats been written off in japan...bring it over and your sweet...

get one with everything working eg engine suspension, and you have spare parts for less than from nissan.

if you buy a 200K car...warranty shouldn't fase you

    • Thanks Duncan! Yeah it's street use for me only. Maybe occasional track day. Any difference in noise when running with the two pumps? I would expect the lift pump to be more quiet than the main pump so hopefully not? And yes, unfortunately quite a big price difference to the simple hanger setup. Though I'm usually willing to trade money for better reliability and future-proofing. Buy once, cry once and all that. I'd be very happy to never have to deal with fuel pump / wiring issues again
    • The old manifold was quite under the GTR strut brace.  The new manifold is quite [unknown] the GTR strut brace. The GTR strut brace was needed to clear the bonnet vents. The Old strut brace will almost certainly clear the new manifold, but not the bonnet vents. The old strut brace will almost certainly clear the new manifold, and the new bonnet without vents. But I am hoping the GTR strut brace clears the new manifold :p
    • On the bright side, at least you knew that it happened and remedied before anything happened. A friend of mine just took his Fiat 124 to a shop for an oil change and they didn't tighten the oil filter housing properly. 4.5 quarts spewed out and even after refilling + tightening the cap the engine has a tick now.
    • So, more pain. The FAST manifold is a little larger than the stocker. This is problematic because there really wasn't much clearance to begin with, so going from 'barely enough' well into 'no' is sad based on the external dimensions of the thing, even though where it bolts to the head is the same. Result is the fuel rails sit a good 25mm higher, and this is a bit of an issue with the wiring that runs behind the motor, and the fuel lines, and everything else. When pushing the manifold on, it required a huge amount of force to crush wiring looms to fit it, sensors like the MAP sensor are about 1mm from the firewall, and the FPR just has to bend ABS lines to be forced into place. After some brainstorming and some sad drinking, the loom for some reason ran from the grommet behind the ABS sensor, then to the driver side head, then back to the passenger side head. So all of this was pulled back and stripped, a few wires cut and rejoined, so that the 'branch' was now on the passenger side's head as below: Before you basically couldn't see anything behind the driver head. This is much improved! The MAP sensor is now pointing up (instead of at the firewall) Brackets have been made up for the rail. The rails are for a LS1, the manifold is designed around a LS2 as it's base. Which of course has slightly different bracketry and water pump clearance, hence the mods people need to do. Should be hopefully mounted tonight. I spent money on a new FPR that is slightly more compact than my Turbosmart FPR1200. The gauge has also been moved to the rail. There's also apparently an ORB to AN Union instead of the adapter, because the ~25mm of the current adapter is going to make the difference. Provided this all goes together and arrives today, it'll be the totally not stressful attempt to start it.
