So here is whats happening at the moment and what I want to achieve with my r34 GTT

My car has the basic modifications done to get the ball rolling

-Kakimoto 3" exhaust fromt he turbo with hi flow cat

-Apexi AVCR boost controller

-Apexi Pod

-Hybrid FMIC

-Splitfire coilpacks

What i want to do is get to 230 rwkws. Now I have lined up a Tomei Fuel pump and a Fuel Regulator and my next step is with the computer. I want to try to use a stand alone ECU but as most of you all would know theres problems doing this on the 34 because of the shift logic built into the standard ECU.

Ive been quoted by Mark at Godzilla that he will be able to do something with a vipec computer for me by running the standard ECU for the shift logic then the vipec for everything else so basicly a stand alone system but a bit of custom work done with the harness etc. I would like to find out how safe this is going to be for my gearbox, I have been told and also read severeal different opinions that could push me towards doing it or towards a piggy back like an emanage. Is there any first hand experiance that anyone has with the vipec style setup on the auto gearboxes? are theere any other alternatives?

Second thing is the auto gear box and installing a quick shift style setup which would make the ECU situation easy fixed. But what do these setups cost? and how economical are they for a daily driver?

.

As for turbos i got a fair idea what im after but any good alternatives i would strongly consider as once again I have herd lots of different opinions. Currently though im heading towards a gt2535. But how much screwing around would be involved with the garret turbo off the xr6's the gt35r's? as I may be able to get my hands on quite a good quality one for a very reasonable price.

Mainly what I'm after is not so much huge numbers on the dyno but a very quick responsive ride. The car will be a street car with maybe a few 1/4 mile runs and tracks days. My hurdle atm is computer and not making a stupid decision thats gana waste 3k and set back other mods.

look into the Nistune boards. You can tune the stock ecu, just need to get a chip put into the stock ecu. over in the stagea section it has been discussed over the last week or so, see link. S2 stagea autos use the same ecu as the R34 auto. and at around $300 for the chip installed, then all you need is a tune, its a good option. i'll be doing it soon.

I had a 33 auto running around 250rwkw before i sold it.

Power FC

GT2871R

550cc

walbro fuel pump

Xhaust 3'

High flow cat

Auto was shift kitted

Ford Boss GT transmission cooler (this thing was massive) but works a treat

z32 AFM

Ran well and didnt have any probs with shifting (with the Apexi PFC)

My economy was pretty shit though... 400km per tank (max) but then again.. thats not too bad...

Response was pretty good pulling hard from 3500 or so

Anyway thats my 20 cents

Ben

If mark at godzilla has said he can do something with a vipec id definatly go for that. Sure it isnt the cheapest option but his work is great

Check the QLD section im pretty sure a guy in there has had a vipec installed into a stagea, which i guess would be automatic

Plus with the vipec you get boost control, traction control etc etc and will fully future proof you if you decide to go any further than 230rwkws

My auto is at BGA at the moment getting a new trans put in after it screwed itself at 200rwkws in my r33. i lost 4th gear, then i lost reverse, flaring between gears and so on

now a new box is going in, with an MV shiftkit and a large trans cooler, having it all cleaned and some nice fluid put in so i dont have any more problems

Mike at MV also does the manual control boxes for skylines, im pretty sure they are $325 from memory and are 7 wires that you tap into to install.

so with

valvebody - $500ish

Control unit - $325

b&m pro ratchet shifter - $300ish (dunno if you need this with tiptronic r34? just using the standard shifter maybe?)

and the brackets for shifter - $45

thats a total of just under $1200ish without install to go full manual shift style which will allow you to run any ecu you like.

and finally read satanics thread he is using an fcon pro from memory which he has been able to tap into the shift control to customise ignition retard on gear changes and run or switch to different maps with that.

sorry if thats all a bit disjointed but it should put you on the right path and give you a few things to think about.

NIstune it or emanage ultimate. Here are two emanage ones ive done lately, one is std turbo other is A/m Garret.

Personally for 230 i would get a Nistune over a vipec and EMU. The vipec is a good ecu (LINK) but the NIstune still retains all the factory auto controls. The Emanage ultimate does aswell but requires a tuner with a EXCELLENT grasp of the emanage tuning principles.
