hey guys,

looking at a 2000 Model Skyline R34 25GT non turbo, its a 4 speed auto with tiptronic, has done 60k Kms

im looking for my younger brother he is just getting his p's so he needs a non turbo car, im new to the skyline world and dont no much about them, was just wondering if anyone could post up as much info about them as possible (specifications) things like engine output (kW and torque), what fuel is needed (i.e can run on 91ron or needs premium), just what the cars are like in general..... any known issues? anything i need to look out for before purchasing it?? any tips would be great! also how do i know it its a VCT model? as apparently these are better?

the only info i have on it at the moment is that,

its a 2000 R34 25GT

2.5 Litre 6 Cylinder

4 Speed Auto

Dual Airbags

ABS Brakes

Climate Control

One owner

Just arrived from Japan

Grade 4.5 with full Japanese service history

Complied RWC

Excellent condition

What are your thoughts on it, as its an import.... im not sure what grade 4.5 and all that means? anyone care to elaborate?

i apologise in advance if this has been asked before, just need to get some info together asap

Cheers Guys

George

first rule is - unless your brother cannot live without an auto get a manual car

second rule is - be ready to put new Splitfire coilpacks in very soon and very expensive

if you are now in any doubt about what to do apply this thought - a first car should be something cheap and simple to run and insure etc - if you cannot do your own basic Skyline servicing and repairs get a Commodore

that's the most stupid post i've seen.

first.. yes manual is fun.. but if your not bothered/lots of traffic.. then manual isnt a big issue

second.. coilpacks are like $500.. its not a massive cost

and servicing the car is not any different to servicing a commodore.. costs start to arise when you start using top oils and parts for performance.. but its an auto non-turbo..

if your a wank driver/gods gift to p platers then yes a shit heap to roll around in isnt going to set you back when you realise that god really doesnt like you.. but if your sensible then any car for a first doesnt matter... insurance shouldnt be too bad on non-turbo either.. might sting you for first time licence holder though..

as for your questions... the best advice i can say is search... there is a bounty of info on this website..

specs for any models - also wiki is a good place for this

what to look for - there is a massive thread on here about what to do..

any known issues - coil packs on the 34 as mentioned.. but that is an easy fix..

petrol - would run on 91 ron but as always i wouldnt recommend it as its dirty fuel..

import grade.. check the import section as there is a graph as to the quality of the car.. i think that means its good condition with some signs of wear (but this will usually be the fact, especially on a 7+ yr old car)

Thanks :), yeah he wants an auto as he is goin for his auto license.... nothing wrong with an auto guys.... so the standard coilpacks are an issue... meaning once you fit the splitfire $500 ones its no longer an issue correct?

yeah servicing is fine, i do alot of my own servicing (wrx turbo, cousins xr6) so ill be helping him do that, but the main services will be carried out by a nissan dealer (or anyone you guys reccomend) :)

yeah i will try searching :), looked on wiki, they dont have really any info on the 25gt.... :)

fair enuff so ill tell him to use 95 as a minimum :), (i have to use 98 on my car all the time so he can get used to it :D) lol

cheers :)

its a common issue.. you can run standards again.. and they may not cause an issie or need replacing (anytime soon)... although standards may just mean same problem down the track.. spitfires (or equiv) are the go

nissan frown upon your grey import so dont worry too much about them.. just find a good mech in ur area (posting in the appropriate section QLD, NSW, VIC, etc about recommended mechanic workshops in your area will help with this)

awesome :)

also, i was doing some reading on here, about rebirths and all that kind of thing, and printed out a page of checklists to go over the car with :) which is great! :D

now this car is a 2000 model r34 25GT..... and has done 62,000kms..... i find this a little low... aprox 7500kms per year......

Apparently its a one owner vechile and has just arrived from japan, grade 4.5 with full jap service history and complied rwc condition.....

i also thought i would post up the link to the car, so you guys can check out the photos and everything and see what you think.... any thoughts would be much appreciated....

r34 25gt

Cheers

im a little suss as i dont want to be getting a rebirth

dont worry about that link, the car was just sold :)..... guess it wasnt meant to be.... however the link now takes you to another r34 25gt but a 1999 very similar km's same specs same color as the 2000 model that sold, and its from the same dealer...... hmmm dunno

you can do a revs check.. and in qld (not sure what other states do) you can do a vcheck..

you just need to check that the VIN & engine number match.. also can post the VIN in the "VINs you want fasted" thread and someone will let you know all the details on the car (colour, make, engine no) and you can check to ensure the car is all to spec.. this ensures the engine hasnt been replaced.. that it is the car that they say it is, etc..

now in terms of the k's.. done worry about them.. they are most likely changed.. mines on 57,000 lol

the guy is an importer.. seems a little cheap for the exchange atm.. just dont go for the cheapies if you got the money.. cause there's always a reason they are cheap

well, i had a look into it, and the deal is called power road car sales, i did a search and found alot of the guys on here have bought cars from shane there and been happy :D

i dont think he would be importing rebirths......he would be checking to see first correct? but when i go down and check it out ill get the vin and engine/chassis numbers and get someone to do a check for me :)

the one im looking at now is a 2000 as well, but its silver, 2000 25gt, auto, 69,000kms, looks to be in good nic, gonna go check it out :)

here's the link to it, maybe you guys can spot somethin amiss or anything, what you reckon?

well i'd say compliance will know a rebirth.. and generally rebirths will be done in aust to sell in aust as it's done to fool the general public..

also speak to another forum member (and business trader) CARISMA... he's in VIC so can help too

the standard coils are still going strong on my gt-t, 198.1 rwkw. there are a few threads on here telling you how to repair your standard coilpacks to get more k's out of them. Take your valley cover off so they dont overheat and you should be fine.
