Superlap 2009 gets a green light!

It's official; Superlap Australia 2009 will be held at the Oran Park Raceway on Sunday 29th March 2009.

Following the resounding success of the inaugural round, Superlap will return in 2009 bigger, better and even more exciting.

Yokohama has once again secured the naming rights to the event, along with Racer Industries, Project Mu, Hi Octane Racing and Turbosmart as secondary sponsors. A number of leading performance brands are also on board as associated sponsors. The Cancer Council Australia will also be involved with a "Racing for a cure" awareness program.

With new classes, more race cars and bigger focus on spectators, the next Superlap is shaping up to be the best motorsport event of its kind in the country!

Mark your calendars – 29th March 2009 is the Superlap Sunday!

Is there a class for RB30 GTR's and similar? (I dont mean open class)

Or a street class with modified bottom ends, eg no cage, semi slicks, block transplant from different car but same manufacturer, no tubbed arches or any of those sort of body mods etc, im sure you remember what i mean from last time, it would be AWESOME to have a class like

that :)

Also regarding seats, OEM GTR seats pass? They're setup for harnesses :down:

Nathan, does a top 15 finish in Open class last time get us an invite into Pro Class ?

Hopefully we can get more than 3 laps out of it this time...lol

Steve just race in opens...it allows you to run 'proper' rubber

EDIT: dont think our car will comply with Pro Class as its daily driven streeter with no cage etc so it wont comply with CAMS regs....Opens it is.

Quick question , i will be intering Open Class. Minor hiccup is the requirement for FIA approved seat. I have carbon/kevlar Momo race seats whose FIA compliance have expired. I have also considered buying new seats, and considering VELO Viper seats which despite their $900 price tag are not FIA complant like the $1200 Velo Apex which is basically the identical seat.

So, FIA compliant seat...this means no std seats used with harnesses in Open Class? But looking forward to this. Since last year have been looking forward to this.

Roy - As the rules & Regs ar enot set in concrete just yet and are all still subject to change the FIA approval may disappear. But basically yes we do not want people running in open class with standard seats unless it is an Evo Recaro or similar style Basically a seat that correctly accommodates a Harness.

one pice of advice consider booking the saturday for practice day if possible. lots of interstate guys and even locals will want to make a weekend of it and get some practice in on the saturday to familiarise themselves with the GP layout.

oh, and it will be another big success i'm sure. :(

Yeh practice day will be good. I have not driven my car at the track since October 2007 and i will be flying in from India to drive my car...so practice would be handy Andy :(

I think it will be a good move to require the seats pass scrutineering and have proper provision for harness. Its a shame to spend $1000 on some brand new good quality seats that dotn have FIA compliance, likewise my Momo seat is Jason Brights race seat so obviously a decent quality seat, its just that its out of compliance. Count Hardcore took my Glen Seton seat that was still in compliance and his car has seen less track work then mine :)

Paul - Pro Class is going to be mainly cars that are/were doing under 1:15 around OP GP.

Awesome...we should be reasonably competitive in Opens then.

I think I'll make the trip from QLD this year.

I vote for a Superlap warm-up day the day before on the Saturday or at least the Friday.... Never been on Oran Park, and some practise wouldnt go astray!!!

Also a little worried about some of the rules... looking forward to seeing some evolution there...

Great news! And well done on getting Oran Park again. By the way the commentators were talking on the V8 coverage on the weekend I thought it was all over for Oran Park. I'll definitely come back for another run at that track - had a ball last year even thought he car was absolute rubbish!

The Supra is much better equipped for Clubsprint Class now with much better tyres now (made sure to get some over 100UTQG for Superlap Clubsprint) and a bit more suspension tuning which should be good for almost 3 seconds there. It was 2.2 quicker at Lakeside, 2.5 at QR Sprint and the longer Oran Park GP layout with all those corners should net a little more than that. Also have a little bit of power to come shortly too.

Might be hard to fit a 4pt harness properly in the car though - no cage basically means you have to use the factory rear seat belt anchorages which may be too low and close to the front seat to keep the shoulder straps at less than 45degrees from the horizontal as required in the cams manual... I don't want to have to cut holes for mounting points. The CAMS manual says lap sash belts meeting AS2596 are OK for State and above Speed Events in road registered closed cars (ie not convertibles) http://www.camsmanual.com.au/pdf/general/0...dule_I_Q408.pdf

And there is a school of thought that harnesses without roll cages may be more dangerous in event of rolovers too. I don't know if that's right or not, but it may be prudent to stick with the existing CAMS General Requirements?

They were saying that as its the last time for the v8's to run there..

no body in their right mind will move there its going to be chaos getting in and out. hopefully it can remain open most of 2009. :thumbsup:
