Oh yeah... and I officiall got the best prize even if I wasn't that fast! Advan RS wheels from the raffle haha! I spent a lot of money (for my budget) getting to superlap so it was incredible to get something back.

You won a set of RS? You lucky bastard. Do you get to pick colour, size etc? If you want to flog 'em off I could be interested in buy'n em :down:

Saw some pics of your car, its had some work since i last saw it :bunny: And bugger Sandown, make it Winton or PI, that way lesser powered rwd cars have a chance against the EVOs :)

good work on the raffle win russman. it was a cool prize! and yeah I believe you can pick a set to suit your car. my advise is go for GTR size! some nice 17X9 +20s or even 18s if they'll let you, or whatever suits your car if you want to keep 'em. it was very decent of yokohama to put up a set of good rims like that for the cancer council. i certainly bought a few tickets for the cause.

Yeah would have been good to meet you. Exactly what I was thinking. Might need to pay a little extra for 18s. but yeah GTR offset for sure.

Yeah yokohamas support for the whole event was great.

Even if you were a spectator there were plenty of things to keep you occupied out the back.

+another1 for Winton if it goes to Victoria....although it seems this is one of those events where spectators are quite important - so making them drive 3 hours from Melb might not be on the cards

Congrats to Garth in the EVO for taking the day out. The last shootout is not the overall prize..........it is the fastest lap you put down throughout the whole day, and Garth killed them.

There is no doubt Mark's GTR will be much much faster with the front wheels connected haha He and I were following each other at one time, and we were sliding at exactly the same points.

We were pretty happy with the 15.3 in JP's zed. It was able to put the power down so much better than last year. He has made huge improvements in the rear end. The brakes are awesome...and what can I say abou that dogbox, I love it :)

The track was not flash during the day, as I posted the fastest time on lap 3 in the 1st session. The only thing that we struggled with during the day was front grip, maybe I should have tried power oversteer into the corners.

Thanks JP for the awesome ride, and to such a fantastic to work with. There is plenty more time to be had in Black Betty :) When can we do a practice day :P

Open class for me was suppose to be pretty busy, but the boys could not get the STi running properly at the workshop on Saturday, so I only had 2 cars to run.........the Lotus and the S2000.

Went out first in the S2000 and did my fastest lap on lap 1!! Lap 2 felt awesome, as the tyres were coming up to temp...but so was the engine. I came off the bridge and then the engine went into limp mode as the temp was sky high. We tried various things throughout the day to fix it, but we did not want to cause anymore damage. I thought it would have given open a good crack, but we realised the damage to the gasket had been done a week prior to the event :bunny: We are now thinking of how we can make it stop and go around corners a little better....and it still weighs around 1300kg. Still, the 16.2 that I managed on lap 1 was still good enough to take out 3rd outright in open. Thanks Elias for allowing me to drive the beast, Scott at Insight and the Vi-pec :)

Second group for me was in Jason's Southern Motor Works Lotus. This Lotus still has the little 1.8 Toyota engine, but he has installed a turbo. The thing does not produce mega HP/KW and weighs over 1000kgs with me in it. I was suppose to drive this car last year. Due to the passing of Jason's father last year, he had a year off. I did a 15.2 on lap 2 in the Lotus before the day got too hot. We kept improving the car throughout the day, but could not go any faster. The track temp at one stage was 49 degrees. I was glad to put a smile on Jason's face after the year that he had last year. We took out Fastest RWD, fastest 4 cylinder and took ou the little one lap screamer at the end of the day. The car was actually good enough to finish 5th outright in open.......yes .0796 faster than the ZED. Thanks Jason for the sensational little car, and to your family and crew for the day. This car runs MOTEC :down:

My mate Browny in the little Back and Green RX7 had a ball coming 2nd in open. Ryan and I have raced and worked with each other over the years.......that result was due to alot of hard work over the years, a great car and driver. Ryan is currently leading the NSW IPRA series.

Thanks to the superlap crew for an even better superlap second year around. The sessions ran like clockwork, the driving standards were improved and the hot promo girls that happened to be in the S2000's garage were sensational!!!!

top speed is around 250 on the front striaght and on the limiter (kept raising it but out of torque range) , diff ratios will be changed soon.

anyone know what 3.8 ratio's are in??

I noticed as well as the club had the second last corporate box for use, that by the time some of these cars got into eyeshot for us on the straight the amount of downforce being created by some of these rear wings!

We thought for sure that Pennlington was going to have to gaffer it up if Boz went any faster :down:

You sound like you are trying to convince yourself...lol

Scotty has been involved with the development of my car and over the last month ive spent almost every weekend at his workshop. He has been over the EVO with me going through what has been changed/modified and what has not. The biggest change being the engine and ecu package...its now making a bucketload of power, more power earlier and better throttle response. Scott has been removing the MoTeC's out of a few cars now as the Vi-PEC in his opinion is a superior product. If you want to buy one Neil (MoTeC) he has a few 2nd hand units available. :down:

Great vid Russ, looks scary to drive, but fun! When can we get a ride in the 34? :O

Yep top day and great for spectators, $15 get to see some good trade displays of the core stuff relevant, get your car washed and ran on the dyno, $50 for helicopter ride, shuttle bus around the track and an awesome display of tough cars close up and in action.

Johnny Boston did a top job as always. No crashes on the day and not too many car blow ups, track was slow though. The Slot Car had old tyres on front and new on rear main reason it was under steering. New geometry changes and mainly Bilstein PSS9 made a huge difference and fixed oversteer. I noticed Bozman was still pushing that boost button and letting it rip on the COOL down lap, it just loves a thrashing, can't kill it. I could see the tyre smoke after Suttons and to the dog leg from the pits.

The black monster R34 GTR was the toughest car I have seen. What a machine, more in it yet to as its maiden voyage.

Hey Russ I will see you at Dat Nissan Nats then. May as well bring your trophy with me, which has been at my shop. I won it the last two, but no real competition. You guys will be a great draw card and great to compete with you. Are you bringing just the two or three of your GTR’s???

Paul you are a funny guy. I understand you must be on link's payroll to keep plugging its product everywhere, but to suggest that the evo came first because of an ECU change is a new low. Perhaps it was not properly tuned previously but as you would know only too well that is not an ECU capability issue.

Off the top of my head the top 5 cars were running motec, link, haltec and powerfc. All that proves is that there are a lot of good choices for ECUs in Aus. motec is without a doubt the most capable ecu on the market with the best data acquisition support and is used every day in the highest levels of motorsport around the world.

I nowhere suggested the Vi-PEC install was the only thing that has got the car over the line. My first comment was it was a good showing for the product on its first outing and finally the naysayers...you included...may see that this product 'maybe' a good alternative to MoTeC. Just a quick one the M800 has only half the data aquisition capabilities of the Vi-PEC V88 out of the box...you really need to only have a quick comparison of both these ecu's spec sheets to see the Vi-PEC is an outstanding proposition. Most of the MoTeC's features are an expensive add-on that the V88 comes standard with. Neil then barked up a tree he knew nothing about and i simply put him straight. The most significant difference in the car would be no more BEL and lots of Insight. Scott built the new engine and changed the ecu which had a marked effect on the power output and overall engine performance.

You guys really need to have a good read of what is actually written...instead of thinking you know whats going on and drawing conclusions that dont exist.

time will see that the product you so like to bag out, only for some reason because i think its a good thing, is actually top shelf material. If i suggested the Brawn F1 team was running a V88 on the weekend that may be something for you to have a slash at...lol.

who is bagging it? no one as far as I can tell. no one doubts it's a great product, but I think people more doubt the effect ANY ecu has on the cars performance overall. as long as the thing can make the injectors and ignition do what the tuner tells them to do, when the tuner tells them then it's much of a muchness between all the ones that can do the job.

i don't think mark and russ's r34 is quick cause it runs a motec. it's got a lot of other shit going for it, not least of which is the handsome driver... same as the evo. garth drove the wheels of it to get that 1:12 on a slow track.

I run a brotec in my GTR and it's pretty awesome too. has closed loop washer motor control and keeps my windscreen clear at all times. looking to upgrade to the new ho-tec V69 ecu soon though...

    • +1 for getting a screen off alibaba, CarPlay/Android Auto is vastly better than whatever navigation cars had 10 years ago. I got an Android screen for my 2015 BMW, huge difference. Fully compatible with factory stuff including iDrive controls.
    • Yeah, my offer was more to show exactly how rough and ready the rig can be and still be useful. Youtube vids will definitely show cleaner setups. Same concept though.
    • I would guess the seal has gone down at the speedo drive and gearbox oil has crept up the drive cable sheath and fouled the speedo head.
    • Any updates on this? Although not a stroker, nor built especially loose, my car has the exact same symptoms. Although I feel they were not there to begin with. Since rebuild with forged parts I have done about 40k kms and it feels like during the last 15k or so, the oil consumption has gotten progressively worse.  Compression test showed - what I thought at least - similar 10-10.5bars in each hole without oil. I have not yet done blowby test though, due to limited garage access. #2 plug is the looks the most foul and that was the one with 10bars. Nothing in the breather tank. I only recently disabled PCV and left only the hoses running from the valve cover via smallish tank to turbo intake pipe there and did some mildish 2nd gear pulls so the car was definitely on boost (1.4bar or so). Removed a hose from the tank and it was basically dry - meaning, the wipe I used had basically no oil on it. Last time I checked, the turbo and IC piping seemed dry as well (will have to see about that again after those pulls). For the past year and a half though, the car has been driven like a granny would for 99.99% of the time, since it mainly serves the purpose of carrying the family around nowadays. A lot of slow, stop and go city driving and most of the trips it barely sees any boost, but gets up to temp properly every time. Although there can be weeks it is not started at all. The car does not smoke, or at least not that I can see. (CAT is in place though). There is slight visible sweating at the Ex cam cover seal and I recently tightened the oil cooler lines as there was some mist on them too. It runs and idles extremely nicely and feels all around healthy. Like TurboTapin, I too am suspicious of my turbo. I have had IC pipes pop out from 1.6-2bars of boost a half a dozen times during the years. The turbo is a HX35/40 hybrid. So, a very similar mystery. Around 1500kms and a litre of oil surely cannot disappear to thin air. Apologies for the wall of text, not sure if any of the above is useful for best guesses/things to check next.
