Christ! Fill me in here folks...... besides smackin someone in the arse last year and being a bit of a prick about it, what else has he done? I've only met him once at a club meet up here several years ago...... and the less said about that the better.

So come on, spill it :)

Was the Vic Supra all noise liek usual or have they finally got that thing working?

unfortunately it was pretty much all noise - 4 seconds faster than my stock supra (with teins, exh & pod) on road tyres.

My goal for the weekend was to try and get fastest RWD in Clubsprint. You can't compete with Evos in low grip conditions (street tyres) on a track like that with lots of hard accellerating out of low speed corners... But it wasn't to be - had issues all day with the right rear toe link coming loose on the 1st hot lap of each session, and adjusting itself to full toe in. Didn't really do wonders for its handling! At least it stayed on full toe in rather than flapping around I guess... missed out on fastest rwd by 0.4sec to one of those featherweight FD RX7s with a 3540 turbo hanging off the side and 0.2s behind Brad Lowe (Fujitsu V8 driver) in one of HDT's new retro Commodores. So can't be too dissapointed.

Root cause of my toe link problem was the amount of oil that's now spewing out of the Tein SS lubricating that bush nicely... unfortunately that didn't dawn on me until about the 4th time I had to stop on the side of the highway to tighten it back up. I just thought the puny 3/8" ratchet set that I brought with me wasn't able to get it quite tight enough. Emptied a can of degreaser on it and the last 400km home was trouble free. The Teins obviously didn't like Eastern Creek the day before.

Anyway, another top event by the Superlap team! Hopefully they'll have another before the end of the year..

and that new HiOctane R34 animal really looks the business! great job in the superlap final too for his FTD and the outright win in its first event! wait till they have time to get it sorted!

I'm sorry we didn't get to meet harry. would have liked to say hello. good result mate. just goes to show you don't always have to be super flash to do well. make sure you find me next time. i look a bit like brad pitt, only really well hung and with chicks usually following in a neat line behind me. with fatz behind them...

how did you like EC? personally I much prefer OP GP, but EC has it's place too.

loved EC! I prefer higher speed stuff. Turn 1 wasn't as scary or as fast as I was lead to believe, but it goes on forever! I was taking it at about 170 - not really game to look at the speedo until the exit where I hit 180 again. I'll try to upload some of my dodgy video tonight...

Oran park is alot of fun. I like the turn 1 kink, but the next 3 slow turns don't do much for me - the Supra doesn't like having to put power down from low speed. But then from the bridge on its all smiles!

agreed. OP GP turn 1 to 2 can make up good time if you have the large ones and can really pick a good braking point. 2 3 and 4 though there is not much time between a gun driver and an average one. no time made or lost there. but from the bridge to the last turn is where it's at. they all really flow into each other and you need to be smooth, but aggressive enough to grab some curb too.

yeah EC turn 1 is not too scary. I reckon the kink at OP is much harder to get right than turn 1 EC. and if you mess up turn 1 at EC you (mostly) just run wide, unless you really get it wrong and pirouette into the inside wall (which is really nasty), where as OP turn 1 can cause some grief (and often a roll over in the sand trap) if you balls it up.

EC is really a bike track. but still good fun. good for the big power stuff.

That's where you're going wrong!

Pick up your skirt and stop wearing out your brakes, you nancy-boy!

:laugh::P

Dont worry you're not the only one.

I need bigger balls to do EC turn one, on street tyres i can manage 170k's but there's nothing more left to give. Really want to try it on full slicks

pfffft you're all a bunch of girls

try doing EC turn one at that speed right AFTER the brake pedal on your 350Z has just sunk straight to the floor :P

if your pedal was on the floor there, I'd be starting to worry about turn 2, not turn 1! lol

Great day, with some great cars and great driving. Personally I don't think there was as much on-track action as last year, probably because the standard was raised (as far as I can recall I only saw one car go off track this year)

I would say that they need someone taking tickets at the back gate near the rally school - or at the entrance to the dirt road on the left when you come in the cobbity road entrance - even though I pre-bought tickets I did not need to show them to anyone, so I'm sure people quite easily got in for free.

Anyway, that aside, here's some photos I took. John Boston was great to watch in every car he drove; I could always trust that he'd have the car over the ripple strips, or 2 wheels in the air to make for good photos. But photo of the day went to Jackie Yick in his mental civic with this hang time -

lol turn one flat stick in a stocy r31 you can take at 180-190 assuming you can get to that speed

thats with a f**ken live rear axcel and 20 dollars rubber bought from hookers

as for accelerating after turn one at oran part gp... you area all f**ken gay if you brake into turn one then hit the gas for turn two you are so gay hit hurts

my f**ken son of rajab is this joint full of pussies!

lol, you are the only fag that needs to accelerate between 1 and 2 at oran park big boy. it's because your r31 is such a slow POS that after farting on the brake pedal at turn one you need to increase speed just to make it to turn 2 without the car stalling....

Chris, those are awesome photos mate. Love the variety. the photo of the civic, is that the left hander before heading up to the flip flop? he must have bounced it off the inside ripple strip or something?! un-usual to see some air there (well 2 weels but not all 4). either way it's a great pic, you should send it to him as I'm sure he'd love to have it.

    • I mean he could post them to imgur or the like and create a link. But yeah, spam bots absolutely will post pictures in their first posts.
    • Ah ok, reason I asked was for the sake of not having to upgrade everything if the turbo couldn't be capped.
    • pffft! My alignments are starting to take 3-4 weeks each. Bugger overnight - that would be a dream! Overnight is when I leave it on stands with the rear suspension in pieces, hoping I can remember where I was at when I come back to it. I have to set the car up on a level surface so I can get decent camber measurements, then try to set the RUCAs to the right length to get that right. Then I have to put the car somewhere else where I have enough room to set up the bumpsteer gauge (laser, paper, mirror), so I can dial out that. Then I need to go measure camber again because changing the tension arm length affects that also. Then I need to measure toe, and I can't do that to my own satisfaction at home, so I have to put it on an actual aligner. Then I have to go back and fix the camber again, and if that took more than a half a turn, decide if I want to set up the bumpsteer measurements again. I previously had the bumpsteer almost completely banished and then I started changing things again! And that's only the rear end. Not even gotten to talking about the front yet. And this has been going on in the context of me discovering a seized bolt in the LHR FUCA bush at the upright, hence needing total disassembly to replace that bush and the others that were not far away from the same outcome, replacing sphericals in the front end and making a mistake that resulted in needing to do it again, which is only half done right now. It's a selfmade nightmare. Only have self to blame, etc etc. But regardless, I am so complelely unable to utilise the services of a normal wheel aligner that I have no choice. I haven't found a shop in my city that does "race" alignments - and by that I don't mean I want my car to be set up for racing, but the set of adjustments that I have available and that need to be used to do the alignment are the same as you'd find on a race car. I haven't looked everywhere, but there doesn't appear to be the equivalent of the motorsport focused shops that are present in Sydney and Melbourne. And such an alignment would cost $300, and you only want to do it once in a while, and you don't want to find out that you have to replace bushes and bearings and such while you are spending that $300 so you have to come back and spend it again a week later. So I stay living in my self made nightmare for the moment.
    • Well, yeah, obviously. But then you have a turbo with 270kW "design", meaning it will have the higher boost threshold and lag of a bigger turbo, but only doing the work of a smaller turbo. That's the suck. That's actually exactly where I am right now, because my stocker exploded and I got Tao to do a highflow for me. I got a low pressure actuator on it and don't push it past ~10 psi or so, where the stocker was being run at ~12 psi. it makes a little more power than the stocker did, but it lags like a bitch. But, if I run any more boost it starts to ping and the ECU goes into panic mode, which cuts all the fun, so it clearly needs to be tuned. But, until such time as I (which is not I, it's my bro-in-law) can actually get the dyno working again, and get some injectors, and do all the swap over of those and the R35 AFM, I can't attempt to use the turbo the way it really deserves to. So what I have now is something that drives worse than what it did before it filled the cat with little pieces of turbine. I will tune it eventually, and probably only push it up to ~250-270 rwkW, which is pretty close to the max for that highflow anyway. I would imagine that by getting the tune right, and with newer betterrer injectors, we can probably make the boost come on a little earlier than it does now.** And if I do not think that the top end reward is worth the low end sacrifice, I will sell it off and convert to a G30, because the smaller ones of those come on boost very nicely on a 25 and make more power than I realistically need or want. The only reason I didn't do it at the time the turbo blew up is that I wasn't ready to sink a lot of money into an Artec manifold, reverse rotation turbo, the AFM and injector upgrade that would have been immediately compulsory, and the dyno was being problematic.*** It was easier and faster to just put the highflow on. And then, as I mentioned in an earlier post, even that is not "easy", because Tao's highflows use a shorter core than the Hitachi, so the compressor housing moves backwards in the bay, necessitating that all of the pipework had to get modded. ** And maybe just maybe, check the valve clearances and put new shims through, because I have recently seen firsthand on another motor that sloppy clearances on the shims can cost a lot of effective timing and lift and really slow an engine down. 3S-GTE in a Caldina got new shims, closing the clearances from just above the max to right down near the minimum, and it is a massively different car to drive. On boost the better part of 1000 rpm earlier!
    • ooooooh so this is where they get posted  Was at a wedding that day anyway, but the next one I will be there for SURE.
