Hi all,

I have had my car for over a week now and today have noticed, after cleaning the carbon build up from my bumper that there are small pin sized rust spots all over the car, i am pretty sure it is rust as it is the same color as rust, it is not paint. I can get these rust spots out with polish, but it will be a big job, to polish the whole car, I will get it professionally detailed, machine buffed, etc.. to get rid of them, seems the easiest way, has anyone had a similar problem, or know what causes this?

Also, i have a large rust area where the boot lid has been scratched, what is the best way to stop this from rusting further and cleaning it up?

thanks

Kris

are you sure they're rust spots? I mean, to see rust appear, the pin sized scratches would need to have cut through the clear coat, the base coat and the primer. Stone chips at the front of the car will do this, but all over the car? Not likely.

Check the bonnet - if you see any on there, chances are they're not rust as the bonnet is aluminium.

To prevent the rust spreading on the boot lid, you really need to clean the area up, apply an anti-corrosion liquid and have the damage repainted.

thanks, but it honestly has to be rust, i understand what you are saying but after getting second opinoins it appears to be rust spots, i honestly don't know why or how, maybe previous owner was a beach goer and the salt from the beach got to it, not too sure,

i will see if a detailer will get them out for me as for the boot, it is not serious as yet so i will stick to my plan and get my engine mods first

thanks

hi if you live in or near coastal areas. open metal ie chips on your cars body are very sesitive to the salty air from the sea.

jetdat is correct, you have to get it back to bare metal ard prime it immediatly. if a fraction is left over, it will eat away the metal again.

also look for those areas that start to bubling up too.

i recently got the same shit on my car!

i just got a front pipe fitted and it had all this metal shavings in it, and i asked the guy who fitted it to blow it out with the air compressor before fitting it, but i think he forgot :(

now i have all these little orange specs on the back of my car, even on the rear BUMPER which is plastic. i think the metal particles must have blown out the exhaust and got stuck to my bumper, then rusted when it rained. pretty pissed off, they dont come off very easily.

Chris.
