This isnt a new tactic either. Hot 4s did a write up about this late last year. Some of their cars are even driving with P plates now. Whilst i disagree with street racing, it is disgusting to see/hear about the police baiting people into racing them.

yes, you are right, it is entrapment, but the police can easily get away from all these sort of charges, unless you got video/photo evidence, you are unless in court againest the cops

Best idea is to be wary of any Falcon, Commodore, SS, XR8, XR6, F6 Typhoon, Camry, Aurion, 380. Theres even some old Magna AWD's getting around still.

Also you guys that go to KK's in liverpool, watch out for a Navara.

I also had an experience with this, a ford xr6 was revving me up at the lights, my car looked pretty stock back then. I ignored him and drove off normally. He baited me all the way till the next set of lights and again revved it. I looked over and gave him a 1 finger salute not realising it was a cop. Low and behold he then pulls me over 2 seconds later and asks me why I swore at him and thinks I have a bad attitude for the road. I replied by saying that I had assumed he was just another holden or ford driver trying to show off his common day car and that I wasn't interested in racing on the streets. The cop begrudgingly let me go as he had no reason to book me. I say they deserve it if they're going to act like tools, driving dangerously in order to make others drive just as stupidly as they are. Give em a salute

There are more than just these two cars out there doing this. I actually got done the other night by a green XR6 (I think) turbo. I was on my bike and stopped beside them at the lights. Illegal tint so I couldn't see inside. I took off as normal, which on a litre+ bike is a lot faster than a car. The car beside me accelerated hard to stay with me to about the speed limit. First thing that goes through a bike riders mind when a car does this is 'get away from me', so I accelerated away. I'm venerable on a bike and I don't like dickheads driving like tools anywhere near me. Secondly there is a side street that comes onto the street just past this intersection so I didn't want to be out of sight, slightly behind this car, which is where I would be if I slowed down instead, as this is a dangerous position to be in if a car comes out of that side street.

So of course I accelerated some more and kept a good distance between myself and the XR6. It occurred to me that it might be a cop car but the illegal tint, illegal fog lights on and strange driving made me think otherwise.

All that said; I broke the speed limit and I got done. I had all my points previously as it's a long time since I've done anything wrong so I lost 3 points and $81 for <15 over. As the cost and points are low I will not be contesting it.

Just another hazard on the road really. We already have to watch out for so many so now that we know about this one, we can avoid it too.

If anyone should contest it, you should.

Nice idea in theory, but they'll likely turn it against us regardless... They like to work on the scare factor, and to the general public WE are the menace simply because 1) we choose cars that are different to the norm; 2) we choose to modify our cars to some extent, however mild; and 3) we actually ENJOY driving our cars, as opposed to merely being commuters getting from point A to point B.

I agree with Steve-O on this, Adam, you should contest it, purely on principle. You were genuinely concerned for your safety and rode accordingly - there's no law against wanting to be out of harm's way, surely?

It's BECAUSE I spent 10 years working in the law that I'm smart enough not to fight it. Mik (had a white 33 GTR with about 380awkw) on here contested a speeding fine and won. Cost $20k. No order for costs.

Also, there is a law against keeping out of harm's way, it's called the speed limit.

i was once driving in newcastle in my skyline, a wrx and a bmw convertable came screaming past me, the wrx would have been doing at least 100ks a hour on hunter street newcastle (50 zone)

The BMW nearly had a accident from what i could see, i didnt even bother with the tools, got to the next set of lights, and watched them race, then the wrx came up next to me tried to rev me up and accelerated off, would have been doing at least 120ks a hour +.. next set of lights they slowed down to a near stop so i could catch up pulled up next to the guy in the wrx because the BMW stayed in the same lane behind the wrx so we were set and ready to race... said to him, 500hp at the rear wheels mate, $1,000 cash and lets go to the track?? he said "bullshit 500 hp" and then i noticed the guy was uniformed (in police overalls i think) then they both pulled over got out of the cars and i kept going.

I sooo wanted to go to the police to complain but i figured they would probly try defect me or blame me for racing and take my car. No point just glad i did not fall for the bait.

I have heard those guys got a few people i know that night, they did not book them for street racing only for speeding. I think thats how they get away with entrapment? go for the lesser fine ? Its still just as dangerous if you ask me though.

Not worth fighting it most times. The court system is a long process if you want to fight something, especially without a qualified representative.

With the much appreciated help of Adam, I contested a fine once and got burnt. The judge asked me at the start to prove doubt in the fact that I was not at fault. I had the charging police officer admit in court that he doubted that I should have been charged but was just charged as a matter of course.

My fine was doubled and I still lost my points.

As I left the court, the judge wanted my supporting evidence because I had some scientific data to show why I was not at fault. He wanted to study it.

I walked out a sorry man, that had spent months worrying, gathering information, studying, and being dicked around. The police laughed at me when I hoped in my car outside, litteraly.

How much shit will hit the fan when someone actually does race these cops and there is a massive accident! The police will say it happened in a pursuit but with witnesses it may get ugly. It only takes one kid with half decently powered car to get an adrenalin rush and f**k up and someone is dead and it would all have happened because the cop baited him to book him and ended up killing them.

Its bad enough that the public do it, we don't need the law enforcers encouraging it.

Yep, valid points - the time, monetary outlay and the stresses involved are good enough reason to not pursue it.

Re: keeping out of harm's way, had I been in that situation I would have stated that I was trying to create a safety buffer between myself and other traffic, due to the extra vulnerability you're exposed to with no "safety cage" when riding a motorbike.

was wondering if anyone has raced them n got away with it? sounds like a stupid question but i know it happens...i got some stories that back up the old saying "it's only illegal if u get caught" so was wondering if anyone has any storys of coming out on top of them after they play there lil tricks....

Nick, I did say that and she said she was also a rider so gave me that but expected me to slow down afterward. Of course the logic on my part was once I gained the distance to keep it. I only went as fast as the car behind me. Little did I know but they were only going as fast as me and I set the speed unwittingly with my initial burst of acceleration.
