Speeding Fine

ive recieved a nice letter in the mail telling me i've been fined $145 and 1 demerit for speeding on the ring road

108km/h detected or alleged cant remember

i dont usually winge about fines but thats alot of money for not even going 10ks over + a demerit point that i need...

question is, is it worth contesting it? has anyone had any success contesting freeway speeding fines?

I guess only if you can prove you werent do that speed. remember to add 3ks ontop as thats what they usually deduct before fining you. Could always ask for a massive favour from your parents if you really need that point? lol probably shouldnt have said that bit...eek.

$145 is cheap ? I had $165 once for doing 65km/h in a 60 zone, it was one Sunday afternoon with no traffic in one main road, must have let the speed accidentally creep up... (no cruise control on the R33).

There's a couple spots on WRR that have traffic cameras. so you gotta watch out around there...

Its already had 3km/h wiped off it i think, if you check the letter.

If thats the case and you go to court it could turn into 111?, not sure but it wouldnt surprise me.

You can generally get away with it if it was your first speeding offence. Make sure you make reference to your clean driving history throughout the years you have been driving (if it is a significant time).

Also, if there were any specific reasons that you may have been distracted or have had your mind on something else, be sure to put that in too. Just don't try to deny speeding.

You could probably write them a letter yourself. No need for a lawyer.

All you really need is to know English and how to structure a formal letter with some persuasive points in your favour.

find someone who doesnt drive and offer them 100 bucks to take the demerit point. just my opinion. money is not everything.

Do you know any international students? International licenses don't have any demerit points, so if youi can get them to say they were driving then you'll have to pay the fine but atleast you won't lose any points.

p.s. I agree on not wasting money on a laywer for such a small fine. A lot of lawyers charge at least $200-$300 per hour which is much more than your fine.

Just write a nice letter stating why you were speeding. You sped up so you could change lanes and reach an upcoming turning lane. It was really wet and truck was spraying water all over your windscreen nearly blinding you, so you sped up to overtake it. Hell, I know a guy who said the flash scared him causing him to speed up, which makes no sense because the speed had already been taken, but he got off it.

i know 145 is not a huge amount but when you're trying to pay off ~$1000 in other fines + trying to get stuff for your car it isnt as easy

Writing a letter is a good idea. It won't cost you anything and you've got nothing to lose. Considering you've got other fines to pay I honestly wouldn't bother contesting the speeding fine in court via a lawyer because you'll probably lose and it won't be cheap.

that is probably the WORST idea ever. Any stolen incident would have to be reported. The police will take your car away for dusting of fingerprints, and if they sense a false report has been made, you will be in a very deep, deep sh1t...

just pay the fine and be done with it.

Funny yeah It's alway a good idea to tell the police or courts you weren't concentrating while driving...that'll work

think atm there is a speed camera on the ring road some were that has been switched off recently because it was faulty..

gave a scooter a fine for doing 115km, things are lucky to get to 80

and a few other cars have been done by the same camera, and alot of complaints have been made and an investigation is in action over that camera.

could use that to your advantage , if it hasnt been said already, didnt read the whole post
