Hey all,

I am having some problems with 4WD in my R32 GTR, I have searched and read every other post but all other probs seem different to mine.

Basically I am getting no 4WD light on, no error code leds, have checked fluid level etc. etc. I am thinking that my attessa computer is fried (had an alternator power surge few weeks ago) but I was wondering if someone can let me know how to test this before I go and buy another one. It is going to an Auto elec on Thurs and he also hasnt had any experience fixing this so some steps in the right direction would be great!

Cheers,

Mitch.

The AWD light is a warning light, signalling that there is a problem with the ATTESSA system. If you don't get the light on (other than when you initially switch to IGN), then there is nothing wrong with ATTESSA.

First thing to ascertain- does your 4wd light come on when you turn the key to ignition? If not the bulb is blown. Do you get a gauge reading for the AWD under acceleration?

Thanks for replys :(

No it doesnt, so the bulb must be blown. And no gauge reading, car is definately running 100% RWD...

When my alternator surged it blew lots of other things in the car (including globes in the dash, so its probly blown 4WD one then aswell, also relays, headunit, fuses (since been replaced) etc.), and it is since this time my car is only running RWD. Given my alternator has blown so much stuff up I was thinking it may have done the attessa computer too.

Would there be anything else electrical I should get Auto elec to check and is there a way anyone could point out to test this computer before buying a new one.

i would have thought that there would be a protecting fuse that blows before the et-s computer would be damaged. Got the wiring chart (in 2 parts ) for the et-s system for what it's worth. Can you try another known working computer?

Couple more trouble shooting pages that might help you out, don't forget to check the fuse for the attessa pump too.

ABS

Just force the brkes to lock up, see if the ABS does its job.

ABS has been taken out.

Hmm pics dont work doo doo, looks like they are in some mac format...

Yeh bugger, they are and they need to be unzipped and downloaded. (know someone with a mac?) They basically do the whole troubleshooting thing so get a download of the manual from somewhere online and check it out- I reckon you'll save yourself a fair bit of grief.
