hi all, hope the title cought your attention as ive got afew question to ask that need to be answered.

my situation is that i have a 68' chrysler valiant and im looking for that 'woah' factor for the car whilst being unique and having the ability to race. and seeing as everyone has converted to efi, super or turbo charged the sixes, converted to hemis or v8s, my thinking is what better to do that to dump an rb26 in :P

the questions i have mainly concern the ecu and wiring for the motor. in regards to the ecu i figured i could take the car to motec and get them to make something up for the motor to make it work but what can i do about the wiring loom? im guessing that i cant just hack it off so what are my options?

also, would it be possible to get some dimensions of the motor so i can know where what will sit? im already aware that the transmission tunnel will need to be modified to fit the gearbox and im ready to modify the chassis to get rid of the torsion bars to make clearance for the front drive shafts but i have to figure out where the shifter is going to sit and if im going to have to mod the firewall along with tranny tunnel.

basic engine mods such as removing the a/c and p/s wont make the motor not run either will it? im hoping to keep it as 'old' as possible.

and finally (for now), what is the best and cheapest way of obtaining the motor? buy it itself, or a half cut, import a half cut or what?

any help appreciated, thanks

sime

as soon as i buy the motor some time this year, ill take as many pics as i can, but in the meantime its all measuring and prepairing. the car currently weighs 1200kg with the driveline and im hoping the skyline block will be less weight compaired to the cast iron 6 thats currnetly in there but i wont be complaining either way.

lol, and as for tokyo drift. im putting front drive shafts in because i want an AWD, to me nothing compairs to taking a corner at 80km/h and g-force slamming your body back into your seat...especially when it leaves behind a brothers (72') charger with a viper v10 :D

but yeah, like i said. i need to figure out how the wiring loom issue will work ect to make sure the car will start.

sime.

lol, dont get too excited. this is my second project, might end up keeping the original one as a daily and making this the weapon, basically the same spec but afew years newer, bit more areodynamic and way more space under the gaurds for suspension ect.

the bodys the fun part for me, wanna paint it like a gtr, with the gtr badges and maybe the wheels if it looks half decent, but it wont be done till some time at the end of next year. so dont be holding your breath for a finshed product.

heres what a complete version looks like. dont get the wrong idea, when its not built like a pimpin' roadster it comes up nice.

ive owned 6 Chargers in my time...an R/T E37 a K10 a K12 a VJ 265 and a VH 245

they are lighter than most people think...id love to get another shell and put my 1000hp RB drag engine in it

actually...bugger it...thats the next project!

Add 200kg's for the motor & turbos etc (from memory)

And then the g'box is 70kg's... :P

I'd be looking to get a RB25 box in there if at all possible.

So heavier than a gts-t, lighter than a GTR

Wouldnt be too bad, just some custom fab engine mounts. Use the full RB26 loom and then adapt to suit IMO. You might have issues with the dash gauges, but just go custom perhaps considering what it looks like :)

I don't want to egg you on, but I used to go down to Warwick Farm and watch the Geoghegan brothers in theirs = mad

Colin Bond was a nice guy too, even if he was driving a Torana. hehe

all i need is someone to say "it can't be done" that always gets my determination going.

VH Charger RB26 with HKS T62/T51 hybrid turbo C4 auto 9'inch and the biggest slicks i can fit under it = 8 second drag car.

I think doing the conversion and making it only 2wd would be very achievable. RB25 box, rb26/rb30 engine. wiring isnt an issue as you could even use the entire standard loom and just adapt it where it needs to be.

Now making an AWD charger, thats a little more complicated. You'd have to retain everything from the donor car. The only way I think such a project would be possible would be to modify the charger body with a tube frame support that would either be removable from the main chassis, or later welds to it.

I'd build an entirely custom tube frame chassis and then go about transfering the entire driveline from an R32 GTR. I cant imagine walking away from that project having spent less than 100k. The car would be legal under ICV rules if built correctly.

I bet you $50 you can't do it.

You can still get the older 4 and 2 door 'pacer' style shells pretty cheap. The chargers are now a bit on the pricey side.

Got to love the steering box chasis rust too on the chargers, one of my first cars VK with a 360cui :)

definately thinking 2wd drag car...4wd...thats left for the complete nutters to tackle...im only 1/2 way there.

    • No. The ECU's hose is for a connetcion between the plenum (assuming single throttle body, not ITBs) and the ECU's internal MAP sensor. This is the primary load measurement of the ECU - so you need to get this one right. This has NOTHING to do with the boost contol. The wastegate also needs to see a boost signal - but it is actually far better for it NOT TO COME FROM THE PLENUM (again, assuming single TB, and not ITBs). This should come from the turbo's compressor housing (assuming there is a nipple on there, which there might well not be), or on the boost pipe somewhere between the turbo and the TB. On the pipe from the turbo to the intercooler is usually most convenient. The boost controller is then located between that boost source and the wastegate, ACCORDING TO THE CORRECT PLUMBING DRAWING FOR THAT BOOST CONTROLLER. There is no general diagram or instruction that will be correct for every case. Then the other ports on the plenum are for purposes such as Duncan described. If the boost controller has an internal MAP sensor, for a boost display, etc, then it will want to be hooked up there, alongside the ECU and the FPR.
    • Ok gotcha, so one post to fpr  another to bov  and I have the mishimoto boost controller and a link g4+ so I’d just have the tuner set it up properly. For the last two from plenum post throttle to  ecu/ boost controller, I know that I have a hose coming from the ecu that I was confused about so I assume that’s what connect to the boost controller from the ecu? And then the last is just from plenum to boost controller then to wastegate?
    • From there, it was just a quick electrical check, prime the oil and start her up Which, is not what happened. 1. Bloody seppo Aeropro battery holder. Not only was it too tall for the battery (which I'll forgive them for, I have another battery the same nominal size that is taller than Neil's one, but the bracket is a fixed height so the battery was spaced up) But the thing that really shits me is the hardware to hold it on requires a 7/32 Hex key. WTF. No-one will ever be able to remove or install the damn thing without a hex key they don't own 2. Kill switch no longer worked once the console was installed. Neil mentioned above he had to adjust the length but it no longer cleared the console once installed. Sorted. 3. Suspiciously, the brake light holders were hanging in the boot with no globes. Sure enough the stopper on the brake pedal was missing so they are always on unless the kill switch is activated. Will pick one up tomorrow (turns out 32 and 33 don't use the same stopper) 4. All that sorted, I turned on the kill switch, turned the key to ACC. Nothing. Turned it to IGN. Nothing. Checked some fuses and found the main IGN in the boot was missing which improved things once it was replaced. Now ECU and dash lights turn on with IGN but still no fuel pump. 5. Turned it to Start....ECU on, no fuel pump, no starter. Plus the voltage dropped straight to 9v.  I suspect the starter is f**ked but am going to have to work through it all and see what is happening, really looks like more than one issue. Does anyone have the R33 fuse box key with the circuit it sources from (eg BAT, ACC, IGN, SRT etc) and supplies? I can find a translated list showing Amps and circuit without supply circuit, and I can find supply circuit without Amps and target circuit.
    • 3rd time lucky, the AAC is now all plumbed up after getting some final fittings All set up under the plenum of maximum access
