You dont need to go for a test, its a warning is it not?

Got one too .. Just wanted for loud exhaust n told to make it quieter.. Bought a new car and kept the skyline hidden for awhile.

Exhaust has a silencer in it .. Buy an Apexi Active silencer - opens on throttle closed on light throttle like a normal silencer.

So if u get a letter from the EPA, does that mean u will have to get both the sound test and emission test?

I got done by highway patrol and he said i will need to pass a sound test, no emission test was mentioned.

I dont know wat to expect, havent got the letter yet.

Also with the pod, im told now by the cop that putting it in an enclosed box is also illegal unless engineered, but

previously another cop said its ok if enclosed. So which is it? So hard to get these things sorted when the cops contradict each other.

im not sure

but years ago, an enclosed box for the filter would be a pass...unless its changed and needs engineer cert...

yes cops can be wrong....if you think about it... most of the traffic cops are the shit kicker cadets whom has started off as a no-body

i think boxed is still illegal unless you got a engineers, unless it complies with noise restrictions. Dont they do a drive by test or someshit. correct me if im wrong.

As for exhaust i have a cat back i keep aswell for these situations. should pass last test measured 86db me thinks

Just 1 more question. I finally got the letter, and it says i need to bring my car to 'DECC Approved Inspection Station

for a noise test and an inspection of the vehicle's emission control devices by a DECC Approved Mechanic'.

Does this inspection of 'emission control devices' mean they're just going to check is has a cat or am i getting emission test also?

Thanks in advance.

Hey

whatever you do make sure you go to the cambeltown approved mechanice not the granville one hes a Bastard ..... hell just do a noise test and check the car for anything else , he will take take pictures and the DECC Will send you a letter saying if you have passed , so try and make it as stock looking as possible .....

Hey guys,

Well ive been to the cambelltown mechanic just then, and passed the noise test, but he said my fmic will need to be put back to stock side mount or i will have to do an emissions test.

Do u guys rekon i will pass with current fmic or should i just change it and take it back to the mechanic, who will take a pic and send it to EPA?

I have put the stock catback on with EPA approved cataylic converter. What a f**kin mess. haha

should pass unless theres something wrong with the car. mine passed no problems, the problem lies with booking it in time, when i went to book mine there was a 6 month waiting period but i happened to get lucky and someone cancelled while i was on the phone and they fit me in the next week. went to the one in botany.

Just do the Emissions test with the front mount on it so once its passed you can show the

paperwork to the EPA / Police if they hassle you in the future.

I had to take mine to Botany and left it exactly as it was (3 inch Zorst ,Front mount, Power FC etc) and they didnt care

less what was done to it they just ran it through

the cycle on the Dyno but said it failed in one Area and even suggested the cat must have been dead so i got a new cat

and it passed with ease.

As stated the biggest drama is getting the car booked in in time before the Defect runs out.

problem is as stated by the guy from the epa when i spoke to him, the emissions test does not cover you, a copa can still defect you if you dont have a engineers. i basically said to him then the emissions test doesnt mean shit. he said yes lol.

ye this all seems like bullshit, even with engineers certificate u can still be defected really. I got my emissions test booked for the 15th june, driving around with stock exhaust. fun, fun, haha

    • They see me rollin' they hatin'....... Took me most of the day to make the necessary mods to the mounts to make them fit the car.  Fortunately I was able to just use the mounts that came with the rotisserie. The rear ones are really secure, the front I feel i might reinforce a bit more as it doesn't seem like enough attachment to the vehicle. I'm sure it's fine but better to be safe than (extremely...) sorry.  I drilled and tapped thread into additional M12 holes to each car mount where it attaches to the rotisserie as an extra fail-safe. Without them the side to side movement is just restricted by the allen head pinch bolts, nothing actually goes though the beam. Does now! I still need to adjust the rotisserie to get the car centred in terms of centre of gravity. If it's too high or too low relative to the rotational centre line of the car, it will be like a turtle and roll onto its back or as it currently sits, I dont think I'd be able to rotate it as it sits as it needs to lift the whole car up as it rotates. Ain't happening... I'm going to be nervous as hell the first time I go to spin it on its side...
    • Oh yes done this when the window started flopping around.  Turns out the guides that run along the rail chanel had crumbed way. Took off the door card and pulled out the window mech, then the window, which you have to pull out through the top. As said unbolt the guide rail and don't spend 30 minutes getting frustrated trying to find a way to slide it out upwards cause that don't frigging work. Drop it down and out through the door hole. All I did to repair it was slice some 10mm clear plastic tube, vertically, then screw it to the guide rail both sides. This tubing rolls inward on both sides and leaves a gap wide enough to hold the window. To finish all I did was lube the plastic tube with olive oil and Bob's your uncle . . . well if he has the operation he can be your Aunt ! !  10 bucks in plastic tube and another 5 minute job done again . . . . YEH BULLSH#T ! My love for Skylines knows no bounds !
    • So was there a solution to this problem? I’m having this issue now.
    • not expensive, just irreplaceable if you don't go sub 60 at wakie in that thing people will start talking
    • I haven't replaced that, but I have had the doors apart on the r32 a couple of times The door skin will be held on by a combination of clips and bolts, just take it slowly and make sure all the sneaky hidden bolts are out Once the skin is off you should be able to pop that piece off pretty easily, looks like there are only 2 bolts holding it on
