hey,

so i figured out why my engine didnt start, was vacuum thing,

so i ran the engine and quickly did the timing, engine wouldnt of been on more than 2mins,

i checked my defi oil pressure gauge and i have no oil pressure

i did have the oil pick up off the car, and i did grind a bit away so it would fit with the sump i bent to fit, i know sounds dodgey,

heres some pics of what i did, but do you think this would be the reason for the no oil pressure?

i have the gasket and everything on there and did the bolts up tight,

any help would be good,

Thanks JV

mmm thats what i fear, does any1 know of any1 who makes or stocks custom sumps to convert the car from awd to rwd? if so please post up name, i dont wanna pay more then $400 for 1, and then that way i dont need to grind away the oil pick up because thats where the problem could be?,

ive noticed in the second pic u can see a gap, but then on the 20 pick up there is another ring that should seal i hope,

i dno, i will have to pull the engine out for the 4th time and pull the sump off,

im so over this shit

Buddy try priming the pump up without the CAS connected, its on the front cover you crank angle sensor, we usually make sure the engine has oil pressure before putting it in the car, you can undo the turbo oil feed and crank it till oil squirts out then you will know.... it does take a while to prime and there could be lots of air, maybe put some oil down the line.

ok so you want me to crank the car over without the cas attached? im a bit confused? or you want me to crank it by hand? which line do you want me to put the oil into and then crank?

sorry man if you can get into more detail that would be great, i really dont want to have to pull this engine out of the car again, this will be the 4th time a engine has come out of my car in 4months, im sick of having it off the road,

if you could please to a step by step instructions that would be great man,

so you dont think its because i grinded back the pick up? i cant see how it could be, it would still seal?

Cheers mate

Is it a fresh motor?

He means crank it with the starter motor, Taking the CAS off means it wont start up.

Like he said, Take the feed line off the turbo and crank the motor over and it should spit out oil if it has oil pressure.

Make sure your guage is properly hooked up.

If it's a fresh motor maybe the oil pump wasn't prepared with petrolium jelly shit. it needs this to create suction to be able to initially pull oil into it to start pumping something.

If all else fails, take your pressure sender out and screw a small fitting into it and using a compressor with an oil can connected, slowly push oil down the pressure sender hole so it feeds back to the oil pump and gives it something to suck with.

Either that or like mentioned before, the pick up could be sucking air, either from your modifications or by not replacing a worn o-ring.

OR the pressure relief plunger/spring in the bottom of the oil pump is stuck open and is bypassing all oil pressure back into the sump.

Start from the beginning and begin the process of elimination.

1. Remove Spark plugs

2. Remove Cas (crank angle sensor)

3. Remove turbo feed line

4. Start the engine

Then keep cranking till oil comes out the turbo feed line make sure you have one person cranking and the other person watching the line, stop as soon as oil comes out.

If oil doesnt come out then your sucking air from somewhere, check that the pickup flange is flush against the gasket/block.

ok thanks fella's i will try that tomorrow, if that fails then yeah i will pull the sump off and have another look at the oil pickup, there isnt a o-ring on the rb20 oil pick up, im just using that paper gasket that was on there,? maybe should put a o-ring into it if it doesnt work?

my bro mentioned another thing i will try tomorrow, see if there is oil in the relocator kit? maybe if i have a line around the wrong way it wont let oil through?

anyways i will get back to you,

the motor is under warrenty so they said if i can get oil pressure they will give me another engine, but thats cool, just a pain to rip everything out again,

Hey guys,

ok so i finally got round to working on my engine today,

Cranked the engine for about 20-30secs until battery went dead, no oil came out of the oil feed line,

the rb20 pick up looks like it has a recess, so i think i must need to put a o-ring in, god damn it, so can i do this in the car? or will i have tor ip the engine out? if its in the car whats a easy way to get the sump out? any info would be good,

im going mental working on cars lol, i swear i have lost a good $400 in oil,

the rb25 pick up doesnt have a recess, i might try and mod that one and see how we go,

let me know if 20-30secs will normally get oil through,

Cheers JV

yes it needs the o-ring in place to work correctly. Loosen both engine mount nuts and raise the front of the motor, then drop the sump. You should have enough room to loosen the pickup bolts off then lower the actual pick-up pipe, then put the o-ring in making sure it sits within the groove.

I have done this before on an rb30 in an r31 without taking the motor out.

sweet as, yeah once the sump is off its easy, i might even be able to do it without unbolting the engine, might be a very tight fit but o well, ive gotta try and file some of the holes i drilled out anyways, i might try and just find the 25 pick up as that doesnt need the o-ring, and thats also why it would be sucking air, i grinded it pretty far back that it made a gap in the o-ring spot as you can see in the second picture, will update this once i do the mods let you know if it worked,

  • 2 weeks later...

hey,

ok so i got round to working on my engine, i got the sump off and had a look, straight away i saw the problem, i thought it might have been the pickup with grinding it back, but what i must have done while re-installing the oil pick for good, i bolted it onto the wrong spot, (yes this can be done) ther is another spot about 4-5cm further back where the oil pick up can be bolted on, so pretty much i had no oil pick up on my car and thats why i had no oil pressure, i changed the pick up to the rb25 pickup just because it doesnt need a o-ring, better safe then sorry,

oil pressure went straight up to 4kg, then i saw the welsh plug leak, god damn it,

will post up pics of my screw up so people can see,

cheers JV

Good to see you found the problem :), now shes all sorted?

haha engine is running fine now, just need to fix this 1 welsh plug on intake side at the front, was hard to get it in right, and i screwed it, thought it would still hold but it didnt so i have to replace that and then i can take the car for a test drive on the road, hope it goes well through the rev range, then it will be booked in for a wheel allignment because i changed all the hicas (no hicas) camber arms, traction rods, and pineapples etc... so yeah lets hope the beast is on the road by next week,

thanks for all the help fella's
