hey guys, got the car tuned last week, really really happy with the response Sam put into it down low, but I think a little somethings missing uptop...

or do you guys think this is about right? just a thought... was a 32 degree day and Sam's weather machine wasent working, so we had to try to manually correct the graph, as well as this, i think the timing was retarted back a little.... the next thing Sam and I were planning on doing was cams, but as I am a student there is a decent amount of time between each mod being put in :)

mods are in the sig, but main things engine wise are:

hypergear tr43

a little t piece manual boost controller set at about 15-16psi

nismo 740cc injectors

bosch pump

z32 afm

Exhaust cam gear

hybrid intercooler

turbo back 3 inch zorst and new metal cat

powerfc + commander

pod + cai + heatsheild

it is really responsive IMO and pretty fun to drive... just goes a little flat at the top.

max of about 8~15 knock, got a little missfire though :D

was that with cams? was that on a rb30/25?

dont forget, was on a pretty hot day, im sure the Garrett item would be better, but, i think Tao's R&D is coming along well :D

appart from response, what do you think of max power? little low for a 450hp turbo? or does making more response lower the overall max kw?

Thanks for the input.

Adam :)

215RWKW @ 16psi?

My inefficient highflow made 250RWKW @ 16psi.

So yes its a bit low. And certainly hits the wall at 5000rpm.

If you expect to get decent results buy decent gear. Otherwise you will just be annoyed with yourself for not spending the extra $$$ and end up doing things twice.

The cheapest decent turbos are Garrett ones, anything less than that is a waste of money.

RB25, stock capacity, stock head :)

Peak power isnt too bad, its roughly what you should expect, maybe a tad more if it didnt nose over in the upper RPM (could be time for a better actuator)

damn... but you guys are using the better stuff i guess :D in terms of the actuator, we changed the one that was one there (7-12psi) because it wasent holding.. to a 14-20ish psi one but used the the bleed valve for the extra 1-2psi.

I understand why your saying that nytsky, and you probably are right, I dont want to get into an arguement about should have spent 1600-2000 instead of 850. I also did think it was quite low, but before I get fried, ponder this before responding:

I would have saved up the money, however the stock turbo I put on the car blew after about 9 months ( oil seals). Im a student, its hard to save and takes time, I could find standard turbos out there for ~350, but then they could just root on me in another 6 months, after all, they are about 14 years old. so I could not have a car for 2 months and save or buy something from new that would atleast get me going (without blowing straight off- eg ebay crap) and MAY be desent to make power...im still happier with my choice then using Melb's shitty public transport system.

Adam

that is a once off mate.

there are MANY people making alot more power with those turbo's.

the fact is, 215rwkw can be made with an R34 GTT stock turbo at like 12 psi..

so it's got nothing to do with the turbo.

soemthing else is going on there..

you did say something wasn't set up on the dyno properly.

go back again when it is all fixed.

and you have sorted the misfire.

and finally, dyno is a tuning tool etc etc..

a CA18 on NS made 255rwkw on 22 psi using a hypergear turbo.

and ofcourse the whole forum went on and on about how it was Trents Dynapack dyno and it was happy etc etc.

who cares.

go take it to another dyno for one run, and see what you get.

you may be right mate,

thing is, I dont mean to say it like im cocky, but it feels like its got alot more then 215kw... considering my car was doing a smidge under 200kw with the standard turbo, compared to that, this thing has a ton more kahonies, but I couldnt explain the low kw results.

i cant remember on the stock one, 300-400nm?

and I guess Sam didnt put the torque figures on this sheet, but on a the dyno we did previously to this tune (about 3 months before) when there was less power downlow but overall pretty much same uptop, it had 640nm@130kph, now it feels like more again, but obveously cant tell until perhaps another dyno run.

and the only difference in these 3 months is a new metal cat and fixed a small exhaust leak.

so that would explain why it feels like it pulls much harder no?

Because its bush bearing, and comes on in the later RPM - kinda gives you a 'rush' effect.

Same thing as what my GT-SS/RB26 feels like vs my GT30/RB25

GT30/RB25 felt heaps more powerful, but thats because it came on around 4000-4500rpm and felt like a rocket (sounded like one too)

The GT-SS's are making decent boost from the mid 3000rpm and it doesnt 'feel' as fast... but its certainly no slouch and i wouldnt be surprised if its faster than my RB25 even though its making 20-30rwkw less

yep, definetly feel that rush, but there is still alot more low-mid range because of Sam.

I know you guys say not to aim for a certain kw amount, but I would have thought this setup would be at a minimium of around 240kw, not 215kw.

and raz, I know others have made alot more power, I have no idea why its at this low level, but its not as if i havent put money into the mods,so I cant think of what would be restricting it except for a little missfire?

Adam

But isn’t this is a High comp NA RB25 with a Turbo kit bolted on? Probably started to detonate with high boost. Need to install a Thick head gasket to lower compression before add in more timing and boost. The max power as I've seen out of TR43 on normal RB25det is 261rwkws at 20psi.

it is, and in principle your right, but as others have said, and I believe as well, that it should have alot more power at 15psi then 215kw, and it hasent been detonating, just a little missfire.

secondly, keymaker, I do wish it i was recording it in awkw, but no, it is in rwkw unfortunetly. :)

Look this is from a Normal RB25det's dyno sheet of hypergear's website tuned by Sam. Car made 230rwkws at 14psi and this is not bad power curve. Other wise you can try Trent at Status tinning. He might be able to get more power, as Sam prefer safe tune, so it can be possible that it’s not tuned at its limit with your misfire issue.

I too would prefer a safe tune if i didn't have lots of cash to build and engine.

Get the issues sorted first before worrying about the dyno chart.
