i feel for his family i really do its traggic that someone dies in a car acco no matter what cercomstances its a pitty that he didnt learn the lesson that it is so easy to be killed in a car even when your not driving like a idiot. I got t bonded at 70 km a hour on my drivers door in my 33 and i was one lucky mofo that i came out of that car the way i did but the acco was my fault not taking enough time to look at a intersection with sun in my eyes and a van blocking my vission. I had been there and done the bull shit speeds and have no idea how i havent come undone and killed someone or myself. since that acco i drive completely differently. No one should drive like a knob in any speed limit the worse thing that can happen is killing a family and you living i know i couldnt live with myself doing that we need more proper race tracks thats where racing and ec should happen and only there not on public roads

RIP GAB

He was a genuine nice guy. He had been and done 3 or 4 track days in his little Datto. He was going to be taking it to the RTA the very next day to get rego'd. It had an SR20DET, Skyline Brakes etc etc.

It is very sad to see this happen as he and a group of friends were doing track days and then this happens. There was no brake failure, he just had his enthusiasm ahead of his ability. I even told him he was going to crash on the track if he did not slow down.

Why do people try to drive fast on the roads, when we have plenty of tracks around the country to use so that you can improve your driving skills.

We are a product of what we are taught, and in this country we are not taught worlds best practice. When is this country going to make driving training a standard requirement.

I am an RTA instructor, advanced driving instructor and a CAMS instructor. I look at how easy it is to pass the test for the roads and wonder why we don't have even more accidents. I think it is terrible that we are not even taught how to stop a bloody car properly, let alone try to impress someone by showing them how they can slide a car ( and do this on a skidpan please ).

So if anybody is keen on learning and improving skills, do some advanced driver training in a safe place.

Both you ladies relax.. points been made..

lols.

P plater ..."P" stands for "POOFTER"

LOL

yeah bloody P-platers!

well maybe your not the culprit type...

but i cant understand why P platers are the main ones causing prangs like this...

you see them all drive so recklessly EVERYWHERE, no matter where you go....

particularly in low socia suburbs like south west and the west.

(and i dont need to mention about a car FULL of Habiby hectic broz with the crew cut hair)

im guessing its just the mentaility of the people from the area....

because the new laws for P-platers, i must admit are pretty tough......

but it just doesnt seem to do the trick........

im guessing they might have to start crushing cars for repeat negligent driving offenders...

and i think its just a phase that people go through, particularly boys... they seem to settle down a fair bit after they get thier full liscence.

but when theyre on thier P's...its like "great, im off my Ls... i dont need supervision YAY!... or god im so good i passed my L's im gonna show the whole world how good i am that im on my P's to drive quick and rally bash"

retards........

i concur with driver training however it wont stop a risk taker taking risks on public roads

ergo rip

driver training sadly increases the risk a drive takes because they think they are better than they once were

only age fixes the above problem

still sad for teh family

Not necessarily the case. Usually a large part of training in any regard has a large portion that is awareness and I would be surprised if the amount of people taking those risks after seeing the damage, both physical and mental that accidents cause, the number of risk takers didn't decrease the training isn't thorough enough. My experience comes from work place related awareness training where deaths far exceed those that happen on the road and I for one take just the most simple task of lifting an object, more seriously.

I do agree that training can never replace experience from age but I can't see how imposing restrictions on these young people will ever be more rewarding them than teaching them how to survive. Sure it brings more revenue from fines but who cares about that when you just lost your son or daughter in an accident that could have been prevented from extra training.

Fatz, how wrong are you. What a load of shit. Sorry dude, but that comment is obviously from someone who does not know a huge amount about statistics, accidents, causes etc.

You are always going to have idiots on the road. I would rather have a skilled idiot rather than an unskilled idiot. Try and work out a statistic on how many accidents driver training has saved people from having..........you can't in this country.

Look at the smart countries that have made advanced/defensive driver training a standard requirment and there is plenty of proof that they can show to everybody.

Yeah sure the 18-25 year old represent only 12% of the driving population in this country and are involved in 30% of accidents. That is why it costs so much for insurance in this age bracket.

But the age bracket for which most accidents occur are the 25-45 year olds!!!!!!!!!!

i concur that i dont know anything about statistics... lol

(eg not only the ones driving instructors sprout like your good self {i have an educated opinon, not a product to sell}... i have a more objective view on those stats as well as international and local stats)

mmmmmm

there are several studies done in australia that show that vehicle fleets (eg normal people in the real world) once driver trained, have an increased crash rate so much so that larger companies will no longer do driver training. Lets not even get onto socio-economic factors affecting driver attitudes.

i agree that harsher rules as well as more extensive teaching in other countries creates a better driver.

once again the nut behind the wheel determines the outcome...... you teach the nut he takes a bigger risk.. bigger risk = bigger impact... simple

Two jumbo's sitting at the airport waiting to take off, and you have a choice which one you go with...........

Fatz takes the one with the pilot that has no training because he will not take risks

Would you trust the person to build your engine that has no training or the one that has. Shall I go on??

Oh dear, now you talk about companies..........please tell which ones as they will be the ones getting the fines in the mail. It is against OH&S to have anybody driving a company vehicle that has not had appropriate training or been assessed.

Shall I list the companies that I travel around Australia for and teach......no the list would be way too long. I teach people in cars, trucks, mine vehicles and way too many more.

Studies carried out by children do not count either :)

I cannot believe you would even question people about training. So all of these people that have come out to do Advanced/Defensive Driver training are now taking much bigger risks on the road are they. I should survey this.

Why would one of the biggest companies that I work for be supported by NRMA??

once again i am not selling a product

NRMA and re-search..... mmmmm let me see, biased perhaps?.. a private company which hedges its bets on crashes???? its entire business that hedges its bets.. fcuk a business that hedges something???? shit thats dumb??

if you know them(nrma) so well ask them to release data on driver that have and have not attended driver training......... then ill take an objectional look through that data???

I think knowing how easy it is to loose grip is the best way to give a driver an attitude adjustment. Until you loose grip you never learn how little grip you actually have. What we call "advanced" training should be the mandatory minimum requirement for being licensed to operate an often lethal piece of equipment.

"driver training sadly increases the risk a driver takes because they think they are better than they once were". IMO this is wrong because i think the training shows the driver how limited the car/driver combination is, and with that knowledge they can make better decisions. They may well think (and actually be) better drivers after the training, but they will also know much more about what a car is capable of.

You might be talking about race car driving schools but we are talking about awareness and training courses, two completely different things.

If you show the dangers and ramifications of causing an accident I'd bet my left nut you will decrease the nutters on the road by an amount worth talking about.

You could quite easily take a look at what mandatory work place training has done for the deaths in work places as it will be pretty easy to make the comparison. A lot of 17-24 yr olds with cool toys which cause a lot of injuries and deaths.

Fairy Land must be nice.

Great, that tells me alot.

Do you work for http://adecco.com.au/index.htm and find jobs for people.

If you do, you would know about this law then :D

It was put into place a number of years ago now.

Hopefully see you all at a skidpan or track for education sometime :D

Anyhow, I still feel sorry for Gabs family that is going through this

nothing can replace experince .

when i was young dumb and full of cum and thought my shit didnt stink and i was a great driver i brought a speedway car 500+ hp first time i drove that car i thought im the best what a piece of piss this racing game is .

first race i shit myself and was put in my place and i went home after the meeting eating humble pie it took me a few seasons of racing just too grasp the concept of car controll let alone win a race .

it took me 4 seasons to get competive and the wins and track records came fairly often after 20 yrs of racing there comes situations that still catch you out from time to time but the minute i took up racing it changed my whole outlook on driving on the street it made me a lot more aware of my surroundings .

our system for letting young people fails badly in preparing them for the real world on the roads im all for driver training and low powered cars for p platers . it;s a pity you cant put a old head on young shoulders . i really feel for the family of this young man ive lost a few good mate's along the way in accidents on the road .

drive safe people dont put your parents thru what this family has gone thru this christmas

cheers mid life crisis

    • Hey @Butters, did you end up getting this clutch in ? I have just ordered to a uniclutch track to go in my getrag 6 speed that’s in my BNR 32
    • I know you don't want to hear this comment, but I can't not say it.  I just can't see 200kw being worth the time and effort. Its like guys with NA cars, putting in headers/exhaust/tune for a massive 20% jump in power. Great, the slow car is still slow and you're down $10,000.  My vote is leave it NA or price in a gearbox upgrade and shoot for at least 300KW, preferably 350KW+.  Now you have a NC that will try to kill you from time to time and will be exciting to drive
    • Ah yep. The main message I want to pass on is, try not to get scared of ghosts when thinking about knock/knock detection.  What I mean is, healthy engines make noise. Knock is also noise. Your knock sensor and ECU combo are trying to determine bad noise from good noise based on how loud the noise is. The factory knock sensors and ECU are not good at doing this.  Modern ECU's are pretty decent at it, however I'd still say that you would want to verify that if your ECU says it's knock, that you actually listen to it and confirm that it is correct.  Are you familiar with the plex knock monitor?  https://www.plex-tuning.com/products/plex-knock-monitor-v3/ I expect you're the type of person that would be very keen to play with something like this. It is great knock detection and you can pop some headphones on and listen to what's going on.  Knock that you've deliberately induced in low load low RPM areas is not really putting anything at risk and is a great tuning/learning/verification tool.  I just thought this was worth mentioning based on the way you were talking about setting up a base map and the Haltech base map settings. There are better ways to spend your time then chasing ghosts and worrying about detonation in scenarios that it is crazy unlikely to encounter it.  I was also wondering, what ECU are you planning to get? Will it be long til you pick it up?
    • This came quicker than I thought. It ain't even 2025 yet.
    • I somehow quoted my post instead of editing it. I regret nothing.
