Logitech G25 Versus Fantech Porsche Turbo 911 Wheel

hi guys,

I want to get a new wheel and set up a little cockpit for my PS3. Now I was all set to buy a logitech G25 when someone showed me a fantech porsche 911 turbo wheel. they are both pretty good, both around the same money and both have very similar features.

Now, to my eyes the porsche wheel is a little more classy. BUT the logitech has metal pedals over the 911s platic ones. BUT the porsche wheel is wireless. BUT the wireless may give some lag?

they both have nice leather wheels

they both have 6 speed shifters or sequential shifters

the logitech also has nice paddles (911 does not)

the 911 is wireless (logitech is not)

the 911 wheel looks a little nicer

they both can position the gear shift either left or right side

the logitech has the metal peddles

the 911 comes with free 1gb porsche usb stick

they will both work with my PS3.

they both cost about the same.

so guys, it's doing my head in. Which one should I get? any thoughts or experiences greatly appreciated. :)

also, any recommendation on where to get a cheap cockpit frame would be much appreciated. I just need the basic frame. I have race seat and side mounts. just need something to mount the seat, pedals and wheel.

lol, yeah the 1gb flash disk wont get the porsche over the line!

but it does have a nicer wheel, apparently better force feedback motors (3 instead of 2 and some fancy stuff to make it smooth), and it's wireless (still not sure if that's a positive or negative, probably a positive).

I think you may be right though, the logitech may be the better overall buy.

yeah, well wireless is nice and all, neat etc... "the way of the future" if you will, but i suppose you cant really go wrong with a cord, unless you cut it... :)

and no doubt a wired one will have slightly better response than wireless

well apparently the porsche wheel is a nicer looking wheel than the G25, and being an exact replica of a 911 turbo wheel is pretty cool too.

man this is a tough call. why can't I have the 911 wheel, with the G25 pedals and completely removable shifter, and have it with wireless and a cord option.

I grabbed a G25 a while back, love it. Simple truth is that paddle shift is easier, smoother and faster than stick shift when you're tearing around a track in a group of cars. The G25 atleast has the option of both. Online Gran Turismo ftw!

yeah but all those wires really sh!t me... had a wheel on my old Xbox that had a power cable, cable connection to the console and a cable between the wheel and peddles... you would get all tangled and forget sharing turns with a mate, it would take half an hour to get setup every time...

however you may be able to tuck all the cords away nicely if your using a cockpit... but still wireless FTW

... and its got Porsche written on it... can't go wrong lol

I might want to add a few things to your list of what the Porsche wheel has:

  • The Porsche wheel does have paddle shifters (similar to the DFP)
  • Powerful and very smooth belt drive (This feature alone costs more than any metal parts used on the other wheel)
  • LED display which shows telemetry data or to adjust settings during gameplay
  • adjustable FF strentgth and steering angle on the wheel (drive GT5 with 360° or 180°)
  • Bigger wheel rim (300 mm)
  • More buttons on the wheel
  • Illuminated buttons with different symbols depending on what system you are playing
  • Completely different mechanics on each pedal and not just different springs. The clutch has a declining resistance.
  • 5 m power supply cable
  • 2 separate gear sticks and the 6+1 shifter with a stronger haptic feedback

I've used the G25 at a mates with a reclinable leather BMW seat cockpit setup on GT5 Prologue and its very good. He made it all up himself pretty cheap. I will be doing a similar setup for mine soon enough. Personally I think you can't go wrong either way you go if you can get them for a similar price. But if I had to choose i'd go the G25. USB sticks are worth peanuts so I wouldn't let that infuence you either.

Out of interest how much are the prices you have seen for these? There's a huge variance in prices around. Umart have been the cheapest I have seen so far (for the G25)

thanks thomas. ;) your post does help. the belt drive is important as is a larger wheel and the clutch pedal feel. the other things less so, but thanks for pointing them out anyway.

now, how about a sponsorship deal? :) can't hurt to ask, and I promise I'll tell anyone I talk to how great it is. :P

yeah, the USB stick doesn't come into it. :P mainly just care about which one I'll be happiest using.

price wise around $250-$300 on ebay for either one. which is pretty good. I think they both retail around $500AUD which isn't too rich either considering how much better these two are than any other offerings out there (short of a couple grand for a pro type one).

You can register in the 911 wheel club and make the test registration but even if we give you a discount it will be very expensive as we ship it from Germany and not from our Australian distributor.

And we never requested any favour to become selected as a tester as this would question the quality of all reviews made by testers. In fact we appreciate critisizm and use them to improve our products. All new wheels are developed this way.

    • I'm still not sure what you are trying to acheive, but I wanted to clarify something about Lithium's response to your question...   Only within certain limits. All of the examples Lithium gave were of detuning for a particular reason. Before the engine/turbo/wastegate combination has hit full boost, you can't increase it....the wastegate is shut and the turbo is pushing as hard as it can Once the combination has hit the target (controlled) boost, you generally have full control over whether it makes more or less boost, because it is being limited/reduced from its potential. This is generally done by controlling the wastegate In the top end, with an undersized turbo, it is possible you won't get to your target boost anymore if the turbo is choking up. In this case you cannot increase boost any more without changing the setup. No change in cost compared to any decent build, other than tuning time to get the engine to make less power than it is able to at a certain point
    • Welcome.  Glad to hear that you have gained some knowledge that has helped you. I believe the only fix for the power steer belt is an electric conversion with a Holden astra pump. If you get a chance, post pics of your car, please. 🙂
