rb25 manual running bout 7pound at time

ok guys driving home after work today,took off from lights,gave car boost up to bout 4000 in 1st,then a bang bang sound with a sound like stones under the car but coming from engine bay/exhaust area under car,so clutched into neutral then turned off,or stalled not sure which happened first. Now car wont start but turns over. Have i blown my turbo up,or bits through the exhaust ?

If anyone has ideas to what it may be or what to look for,would appreciate feedback,to save time etc,as going to pull apart turbo area see what we find there 1st

Check ic pipes

all pipes and hoses seem to be on,have no oil leaks etc,motor seems to have nothing missing or changed, after noises and fact that cant see anything on outside of motor,suspect that either t/belt snapped or turbo,really hard to think others

Pull ic pipes off and inspect inside for debris-oil, could drop the cat also and have a look inside.

Does it sound ok when it cranks? no piston slapping valve noise?

Pull timing belt cover off and inspect.

Comp test it.

*edit inspect s/plugs for excessive oil.

could be a vast array of problems based on those symptoms

the car doesn't need a turbo to start as long as the path is clear for air but if it threw the blade thru the motor it could have damaged it internally

could be a timing belt ? or idler pulley failure

or just a fried motor with broken rings or oil pump failure or ?

if it spins over without weird noise but seems like the motor is flat sounding and not firing at all , check the timing belt or to see if its on and tight still

my old skyline broke the bolt on the idler pulley and sounded like the motor blew up cause the pulley bounced around for a sec in the cover. and it turned over but wouldn't start, cause the belt fell off at that point, only 1 little bolt holds the pulley on, and mine sheared off just off idle as i stepped down on it.

pain to fix but not expensive.

good luck maybe if you can describe the motor as it spins over, sounds like no firing of the engine or turns over then fires and dies ?

check the front of the cat, drop off the two bolts to the front side of it, if you find loose parts when it comes open you know there is possibly serious damage to the engine and prob the turbo too?

thanks will do,plan to pull pipes etc off and inspect t/belt by weekend,see what damage,if turbo damaged my upgrade to t3,see what story is 1st guess

thanks,may check t/belt 1st just to make sure,seems to crank over same,think,but after things break its easy to doubt what they sound like

why do you think its the turbo?

was it showing signs of being fuxored before it happened?

my guess is with troy..

check the timing belt/pulley BEFORE you go muckinf round with the turbo side of things, taking the turbo

out for no reason is a pain in the ass, believe me.

when the noise happened under accelerating,it sounded to me like the noise started in engine bay then went under car,at 1st thought drove over rocks or something then realised that car wasnt working how should. after hearing how turbo wheel can blow through exhaust just seemed to make sense on noise,then who knows hey its stuffed eitherway

I didn't have my tool kit with me when I caught Damo on the side of the road. I suspected either timing belt gone, or the turbine wheel blew and jammed up the compressor wheel. Engine turns over as normal, no slapping, no 'ting-ting', it just won't fire. All looks normal, no visible signs of any problem.

Damo, I was just about to SMS you. I can shoot over after work tomorrow and we'll start by pulling off the timing cover. If thats all good, then we'll go to the turbo next. Pull off the intake first and see whats going on in there :P Don't pay for a mobile mech to come out just yet, its free for me to come around and quickly eyeball it with you when I have my tools this time. We might as well rule out a few things and check items like intercooler piping etc for the hell of it.

yeah got hm by bout 730,gonna pull off t/belt cover etc tomorrow,come round if like have a suss,be hm round 5.

Should be around about 6.00pm.

from the sounds of it remove the front timing cover top bit and take a good look, the belt might look ok but on a quick pull to see if its broken or the pulley is farked that hold tension. plus if it has adjustable cam gears it could have broken off hence the no start problem.

the turbo is a bastard to remove unless its been off recently lots of wd40 and broken studs, bloody knuckles are the normal. check the front side of the cat for bits of ceramics melted to the core or shrapnel in the pipes

take a look at the oil , is it full and milky looking or maybe overfull and frothy looking brown?

check the coolant rad cap does it have a oily look to it, like oil on water or a brown frothy look to it ?

if so its a blown head gasket and the motor is prob hydro locking so it wont start but not so bad it wont spin ?

and well the oil pump is a fatal on most things, had one fail on my datto 1200 at hi speed, big mess took out just about the whole motor in 1 second

It's almost 99% of the time the rear wheel that comes off.

Have you started it since it happened?

no wont start just turns over,motor has no strange noises out of it,no grinding etc,gonna check t/belt later just in case,then proceed to other areas

its a piston engine? same? same ? they all fail the similar ways in any car just some have more common problems (forced induction?) ,

and my Datto 1200 would run circles around my R34 GTT ( except top speed) , it was a full race car built for road racing completely stripped out with cage and built to Nissan/nismo racing manual/book , yes you could get the exact race car blueprints from nissan dealers back then...lol bet I could get a premuim price for my book and race spec blueprints now..lol since the Datto is a popular car again..lol

10,000 rpm+ from race built old school pushrod engine A12 engine with dual webers and 5 speed box outta newer one. It left many 911 drivers puzzled when I cained them up to about 135mph. geared to top out about 140mph which is bloody fast in a feather light car back in 1983...lol damn I sound old now..lol

similar to this one but a lot nicer looking and sort of streetable still with lights and a radio
