This falls into the same line as my questioning on the speed camera/radar deal. Same idea: any rules and regs to be found on dB requirements/ testing protocol?

Pretty sure the testing procedure is covered under ADR 83, details can be found in this document: http://www.ntc.gov.au/filemedia/Reports/Na...estSept2006.pdf

Each jurisdiction decides what noise level they will permit (i.e. DB) for each category of vehicle, but they are all supposed to follow the same testing procedure.

You could print a copy and keep it handy if you were ever tested, although they would probably just decide you were being a smart arse and get you for something else.

These are the same "people" who wouldn't pass my car on Friday because I didn't have an owners manual........

On the domestic level I had neighbours complain my stereo was too loud. The EPA wrote me a letter and eventually came around with test equipment. They set-up and did their tests. I turned the stereo up as loud as it would go. (past where I normally would).

The EPA guy advised that the noise level from traffic two streets away had a higher reading than my stereo which interfered and he could not measure the DB's from my rental with any accuracy. Complaint dismissed!

Needless to say I had a few more loud and late nights to thank my neighbours who could have either complained to me or joined in festivities. Oh and so I turned the Sub up. Subs get louder the further away you are from it. Some form of percussion grenade effect I think ;)

PS. Anyone ever not heard a Harley. Bad enough stock let alone after the baffles are removed. How do they pass noise tests?

Hoooollly crap. It would have taken all the self control I don't have to not explode in their face and call them names so bad it'd make Rodney Rude blush.
