A cheaper option would be NISTune ($400, + say $50 to solder it in) + Dyno tune ($600) + (optionally) Consult cable ($100).

http://www.nistune.com/ Check the workshop link to fine who can tune it in your area.

thanx mate but there too far away pro torqe is only likr 10 min drive from my house

$2200 is a mighty outlay for a RB20 equipped car... and with a ECU thats, well, average. Hmm.

What level of mods is it at?

What mods do you plan in the future??

If your only running a stock turbo (or even a medium upgrade) i personally couldnt justfiy spending that much and would go with a remap anyday even if it meant driving 1.5hrs.

well i have a fmic exhaust pod filter . but i was going to get a kkr430 534cc sard injectors and a new fuel pump and triy and get tuned with the standard ecu but he said it wouldnt run right and if i go bigger injectors that i will need a new computer so then i said what about just a turbo and fuel pump and he said i would be better off getting the computer done and then get that stuff later he also said the standard turbo would be fine on 14 psi rb20 turbo that is

Well of course he's gonna say that.

He'll be making a tidy sum off a install like that ;)

Although, you can have a re-mapped setup so that it will work with larger injectors etc.

What other options for tuners/ECU's etc do you have near you?

Im not familiar with your area... but if thats all you have avaliable, then your probably going to be going your option above which is fair enough...

However if there is a chance you can go somewhere else and find out the pricing, then id shop around just to be sure your getting the best value for the money as net return on RB20's vs $$ spent is tough at times :P

efi performance is like a 35 minute drive away so i might give them a call about there nistune chips they do sound allright the only reason i was going to get the microtech was so when i get injectors and the turbo and stuff it would work but if efi can tune the standard computer with injectors and that i might just do that anyway thanx for all the help cos was gonna go in on the weekend order it and it in so thanx i will try and find a better way. it is hard to find someone thats not out to make lot of money off ya

i too was going to go down your path. and pay 2500 for microtech and tune for my series 2 R33

i ended up getting a Nistune remap from Toshi on these forums and seriously for $500 bucks i got exactly the same result as i would have with the microtech. just over 200kw at the wheels and all the fruits of the microtech without the $$$

How funny, one of the previous owners of mine got the combo of a Microtech and KKR.

Cold starts suck, fuel economy sucks, and for some reason I and everyone I know who has one of these computers also has a car which runs very rich.

I also have no VCT, AWD (still trying to work out how on earth I can get it happening with the piece of shite), and the car feels sluggish at around 5000rpm (changing heat range of plugs, and changing oil to Motul to see if I can alleviate some of this)

The LCD Dash is a cool wank factor though.

If it weren't a daily and I had the time and money to stuff around I'd pull out the Microtech and go Nistune/remap.

for that 2200 you could find a new fuel pump, grab some s/h bigger inj, even gtr inj? bigger turbo, stainless manifold, and a remap!!! (maybe even grab a alloy radiator from ISC)

remap $500 (nistune)

inj $400

manifold $200

s/h bigger turbs/new chinacrap $800

new pump $200

couple things for you to look at...

Yer mate we are moving to yatala in the new year, when we get our new MAINLINE dyno, dam xmas break otherwise we would be already there.

Nistune is by far a better option for your car.

$375 installed plus dyno time ontop and you get to keep all your factory sensor's, knock map and you wont get any timing jitter which microtech are very well known for.

Why don't you have VCT? What model microtech is it? My LT12S can control VCT.

    • What are you doing with the car? street car or race car? People get hung up on the squat of the s/r chassis rears. There is positives to the squat if a car is setup and driven correctly for it (correct ride height, spring rate, alignment, damper valving). Generally just lengthen the rear traction arm by 5-10mm and that will help the squat and bump steer too. You are also correct with the roll centre too. This too also needs to be adjustable if you start messing with suspension geometry.   Having done quiet a bit of testing on race cars this year in regards to rear squat, I've seen some big positives from it in regards to drive off corners and traction.
    • I find I am using the MX5 for everything except long overnight cruises with Jackie, or, if picking up the kids to go somewhere, the SS has so much more room inside, and is much more comfortable if your going to be doing Hwy driving for 6-8 hours And the MX5 isn't bad in stop go traffic for a manual transmission car, whilst the clutch kit has been upgraded from stock, it is still light, and also not having a stupidly light flywheel in it helps as well, I've spent alot of time sitting on the M5, M4 and M7 stuck in traffic when plodding around the Greater Sydney Region in it Another benefit is MX5's are not really a car that gets stolen, you can pretty much park it anywhere, and it will still be there when you return
    • I can totally get why you like it for that sort of commute. I was thinking BoganDore because it's such a lazy drive, for things like stop start traffic.   I used to do over an hour in stop start shit from one side of Bris to the next, twice a day. My choice of car was larger displacement, with an auto. Basically for torque in low rpm/very low speed, and no clutch pedal. But loved a fun manual for the weekends, which the partner has (plus had the LandCruiser too for other fun drives). I now have an EV as a work car, and I tell ya what, ultimate daily driver, especially if youre out of energy, like I often am after work. I don't even need to touch the brake pedal   That said, I'm presently rebuilding the Liberty GTB to get it setup for weekend drives and track abuse! So small high revving turbo engine with 6 speed cog swapper!   But for your style of commute, I'd probably take the MX5 too!   For those choices, I'm ignoring fuel economy. Because I know how atrocious V8 daily life is for fuel from when I used to daily a manual SS, ha ha. Hence why I know I love the daily rumble of a V8
    • II know what u are saying after 9 years of hibernating my stock engined  110,00km gtt I got it registered 2 weeks ago. Took it for a drive a couple of days ago and some fresh bp fuel, I just couldn’t stop grinning and dreaming of when I will start my build thread. its just such a primal man feeling many forget to enjoy I wish u so much enjoyment with your little racer mate
    • People just don't understand how good MX5's actually are and how fun they are to drive, park, manuever. You feel like you have got some fun cheat code, while everyone else is sitting in their luxobargeSUV like normies who missed the point of living. It really is that noticable. As long as you/your stuff fit, and you're comfortable (they are), a MX5 is the best car on earth to daily around.
