By default the vipec turns the check engine light on if the engine temp gets above 102c, the map sensor reading goes above 240kpa and on mine if the knock sensor input voltage goes above 1.0v

how do you change that setting? i want mine on 95

anyone know if you can get a oil temp sensor that can output the reading to 0-5v?

It is under Auxiliary Outputs > Aux 7 - GP Output.

Set the switch logic to "Cond 1 OR 2 OR 3"

You can then change it so you have 3 conditions of your choice that will trigger the check engine light.

I found a VDO Marine oil pressure sender will do the job just fine, 0-4v output..

Will set a gp on the Vipec to switch the engine off if its reving over 1200rpm with less then 2bar pressure.. or something like that...

the part number is 360081032014c and there is a VDO seller in WA who will do one for under $100 delivered.

gday guilt toy, few questions about your little computer setup you have

(if the chicks digg a hand controller they would be touching themselves over your setup). nah seriously i have the v44 plugin in my 33 and would like to moniter stuff + have it for itunes + videos.

hat input does the screen have? Im by the quality its not AUX input

How much rougly for the screen?

Do you have a laptop or have you built yourself a little computer and just chucked it somewhere?

If you have build a little computer (should be able to do so for $200-$300), what are you doing for the power supply (the only tricky part)?

The screen is a Thermaltake 7" touch screen, they are pretty expensive and are made for servers, i run a 12v ATX power supply to run power to it.

I also can get some 800mhz tiny pc units with 256mb ram (My unit will be here today, have been using my laptop in the mean time) and will be powering it off the 5v rail on the atx power supply as well as the USB hub, it takes a 2.5" hdd and will be able to run XP without any issues.

Well get more pictures of my setup once its completed. I can do you one of these little mini car PC's for about $200 delivered to your door, the screen costs about $500 retail, i got one cheap $399.

The screen has VGA input, also has RCA inputs but mine are not working :P have to send back for RMA next year.

I could also power the PC from the 5v rail out of the Vipec but the 5v shouldnt have too much current drawn because it supplys power to the sensors (map sensor etc etc)

So yeah let me know if you want one of these units..

He has his wideband hooked up to it and runs the tuning software on the touchscreen....touches up the tune while driving to work...lol

Nice! I was also wondering about your pc setup :P

Personally I'm running a carpc (1.2ghz cpu, 1gb ram, 120gb hdd etc etc) in a voomII enclosure and a 7" touchscreen (no branding but same specs as the top lilliput), having ecu water temp readout on the screen all the time is wonderful :)

total cost on the set-up thanks bubba

Just under 1k for everything but I got 2x setups (enclosure, motherboard, psu, drive adatper) from the US to save on shipping.

Might be a little more now that our dollar sucks ass but general run down:

VoomPC-2 Barebones kit - US$230 + shipping

1Gb DDR2 RAM - AU$25

160Gb (yes my bad, it's actually 160Gb) 2.5" HDD - AU$65

Slim DVD drive/burner - AU$69

7" manual single din in dash touchscreen - AU$569 (seems to have gone up by $100 since I got mine)

So yeah, the screen was pretty much half the cost but I wanted something quality with VGA input, in-dash and non-motorised :) If you're not so picky on screens there are alternatives, i.e. if you wanted to mould into the dash I'd go for a 10.4" Samsung panel :P

Edit: the big winner the is M2-ATX power supply that comes with the kit, it's rather intelligent and has a lockout feature so it won't just cut power to the pc when you turn the ignition off, it keeps running for a certain amount of time (that you can set) and shuts down the pc properly. It also handles the voltage drop when cranking so the pc won't reset!

At the time, yes :P

I had borrowed a mates 3G broadband dongle to test it out how it went while moving, 3.6Mbit connection with no loss of signal strength while driving around! Will get myself one eventually along with a USB GPS receiver but they're far from the top of the priority list.. bigger turbo comes first lol

haha ive got free 3.6M 3G on my CF-19 toughbook...soon to be upgraded to 7.2M nice. :D

We had one of our suppliers marketing people come by once with a toughbook. He dropped it on the floor then stood on it as a demonstration of how tough it was. thing still worked perfectly.

I had my old CF-18 sitting open on the passenger side of the bonnet of my work truck....i noticed it as i was driving along.

what was my first reaction?

yes i hit the brakes!

it flew off and cartwheeled up the road.

it gave me a couple of years service without a hitch after this 'incident' until it was traded for my new one. :D

    • Yes, but it's not as easy as pulling a fuse on anything other than an R32. There's a routine you have to do, involving disconnecting a loom plug and bleeding down the preload.
    • A question for tuning awd, is it possible to disable the AWD? The stagea is an EA/T AWD, Toshi had said on a GTR, he was able to disable it and make it 2wd. Just wanted to double check if this was possible
    • Whoa, that's a name I've not see for a long time! Sorry to hear about the engine / turbo damage.  Fwiw with any engine problems it often really a case of just seeing what happens when it's apart, ymmv - I wouldn't rule out the possibility that the damage isn't even from the turbo failure, or possibly from a combination.  The airflow between cylinders isn't dead even, injectors can go off over time as well, with the turbos overboosting if you didn't have upgraded fuel system there could have possibly been a bit of leaning out - stock triggering is often a bit unreliable by this age too.  Basically its an old engine and a few things could have been going on, and you won't know how much work is needed until the engine is apart.
    • I'm just shocked there's a euro driver on our roads who is thinking of other road users and not attempting to blind everyone. I wonder if Prank uses his indicator too...
    • Its hard to tell really. The Q50 owner's forum talks about it a lot and has quite a few people directly affected, but no idea what % of cars sold actually had the block replaced. Also, there seem to be 2 distinct issues which both get diagnosed by Infiniti as requiring a block replacement (no wonder they are going broke) 1. "Porous block" where coolant mixes with oil through thin or poorly cast parts of the block 2. Head coolant gallery plugs not sealing. If I was noticing engine coolant loss I'd start with cooling system pressure test (as always) and then I'd pull the cam covers and reseal the coolant gallery plugs on both side before worrying about a potentially porous block.  If neither of those did the trick it would be put in a second hand engine out of japan; I haven't checked pricing but I'm sure there are plenty around by now as they've been in production 10+ years
