CeJay
Ok Did a bit of a search for this over the last few days. Didn't really find out too much from searching. Had my turbo go, Now I'm looking at a GTRS or a GT3706R. I have an r32 spec rb25de-t with no vct. Was put in by an aftermarket shop in japan. From what I know it has tomei cams in it. I don't know if any of the internals are modded either, although it's possible. After the compression test all cylinders came back at 125psi. Other mods are FMIC Vipec ECU v44 injectors are 370cc from what I can see. Has a 33 spec stock IM hence the side feed injectors. I think it also has a metal headgasket Car also has splitfire coilpacks. r32 GTR Fuel pump nismo fpr Oil cooler & and oil cooler relocation kit Now would 550cc injectors be enough to support 250kw - 270kw? Or should I go higher injector size? Would I be best to get a nismo fuel pump or something else? How would I be able to check the internals of the engine to determine whats in there? without taking the engine out? What other supporting mods would I need to support the turbo? If I get a GTRS or GT3076R? Car was putting out 236rwkw on a slide hiflow before the turbo went. Mainly after a safe boost level for turbo, not stretching it to its limits, and safe supporting mods. Guilt-Toy
get a GT3564r (gt35r with .64 rear housing) this turbo will do 250 to 320rwkw reliably and be fun to drive as well. 550cc's are fine for your application as well. GTR pump is fine. Vipec ecu adds a extra 50kw Don't bother worrying about the internals, as a stock one should reach 280rwkw without any issues what so ever. so just upgrade the injectors and turbo setup, make sure you have a decent cooler etc etc and off you go... 125psi says you have low compression so unless your engine is in bad health (do a leakdown test) then its possible that its been built already to take punishment, try getting a torch and looking down the spark plug, put engine on TDC and look in cyl #1, rb25 pistons have a domed top, if your piston has a dish then you can pretty much say its not standard. (unsure on the rb25de though........) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/249470-reliable-250kw/#findComment-4326116 Share on other sites
SexyPete
you pretty much have the setup minus the injectors and 550cc would be more than enough for that power, i have a gt3076r on my rb25det and just be warned full boost will be around the 4000rpm possibly a little lower with your cams, if you are after response maybe look into the GTRS although it is almost twice the price. That being said the GT3076 will not dissapoint at all and easily net you 250 + safely and comfortably. evil_weevil
Chris, I make 255rwkw with gtrs without cams so you'll be fine, just get injectors, nismo 555cc's are perfect for the job. adgey
Go chubs turbo. I have 3037 and would have prefered something more responsive Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/249470-reliable-250kw/#findComment-4326148 Share on other sites
Lithium
get a GT3564r (gt35r with .64 rear housing)this turbo will do 250 to 320rwkw reliably and be fun to drive as well. Agreed with all other comments, there are threads for Africa on whats needed to reliably get around that power. A GT-RS will do 250+kw but is working quite hard to do so, the GT3071R (if just cracking 250kw is all you need) or GT3076R path (for cracking 300kw) would be the way to go. There isn't such a thing as a GT3564R that I am aware of, a lot of people have been understandably mistaken into thinking the second two digits represents the turbine a/r (ie, 82R = .82a/r) but it actually represents in most cases the compressor wheel exducer size. A GT3582R with a .63a/r turbine housing would also be a viable option but the GT3076R with a .82a/r will do the same with possibly slightly more response down low. (OO)Firty Free(OO)
Go chubs turbo. I have 3037 and would have prefered something more responsive I'm running a HKS 3037 also and found the turbo a bit doughey after my first tune. Since then i have had it re-tuned it with a Datalogit and wideband and the car feels ten times better down low (not to mention the extra top end surge courteousy of 2 an extra psi). The common problem with most tunes (in my experience anyway) is the tune is for outright power only and some tuners miss the most important part of light-medium throttle/loads when coming on to boost. Before my retune my car was slow coming on to boost in second which i put down to the bigger turbo but since we have tuned for cruise speed/light -medium throttle imputs its a different car, very lively and comes on to boost in an instant. Oh BTW my car runs 18psi and makes 274rwkw with the AFR between 11.5-11.7 under full load and spot on 14.7AFR at cruise. adgey
I'd still go a smaller turbo like chubs if I went through it again. Mine isn't helped by my large duration cams but I just don't think it'd be as fun as something super responsive with around 250kw. (OO)Firty Free(OO)
I'd still go a smaller turbo like chubs if I went through it again. Mine isn't helped by my large duration cams but I just don't think it'd be as fun as something super responsive with around 250kw. Cams can make you go backwards not set up properly (not saying yours are but your set up definately sounds lacking in the response area if you are considering a smaller turbo).....KW aint the be all and end all IMO Torque is, and I know from my own experience i went from 6200 Tractive effort on the dyno to 6800 just with 2 psi with a 3037 and would not look back, absolutely awsome turbo for a 25. Take what you will from what i have achieved but just remember this is the biggest turbo HKS does for a 25 and they are known for performance and response.....So for a reliable 250 very very easily i would recommend a HKS3037 and then if you get bored(and you will everyone does chuck a couple more psi into it and knock on 300's door) Try doing that with a GTRS or similar. I can't stress enough that a decent tune plays a huge role in your outcome. VB-
as above, pretty sure theres no such thing as 3564r, they're all 3582r's, with whateve rear housing you want. that said you can make your target power with a smaller, more responsive turbo Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/249470-reliable-250kw/#findComment-4327732 Share on other sites
CeJay
So by the looks of it I'll be getting a 3706r with a .82a/r and ext wastegate, as this would negate any boost creap issues? So I'd be up for a custom dump pipe? Anyone have an idea how much one of those should cost? Will need to source the injectors And I take it with my mods I should be able to get around 250-270kw on 16psi or so? atm not sure which wastegate size to pick as the calcs in there don't make any sense. but doing it myself, not sure the calculations right, I take it for that power I'd be after a 38mm wastegate roughly? Do I have to get the car taken to an exhaust shop to get the custom dump made up? as it is off the road atm Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/249470-reliable-250kw/#findComment-4342838 Share on other sites
NYTSKY
Wouldnt go lower than a 44mm gate mate. And yes you will need a new dump. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/249470-reliable-250kw/#findComment-4342979 Share on other sites
Redman180
If your only looking for 250kw then as stated several times a gtrs will be perfect... it will pick up good road speed and be very responsive. if you wanted a turbo that has potential for a bit more power using less boost, a 3076r with .82 would go nicely, also for these power figures why not just stay internally gated and save the extra money for something else. also your current injectors will handle 250kw but a few more cc's never hurts either, my 440cc are handling 300rwkw quite easily (with a bosch 044 sending the fuel to them). BezerkR32
ive built half a dozen off the shelf combos with hi-mounts and they all support over 280rwkw and using a 38mm gate with no boost control issues. the only time we have had a problem was with the introduction of 100nos, and that was only with the gt35/40 with 1.00 exhaust housing. Wouldnt go lower than a 44mm gate mate. And yes you will need a new dump. tridentt150v
My calcs [using SK formula] say 39.6 = 40mm for a gate. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/249470-reliable-250kw/#findComment-4343195 Share on other sites
joeyjoejoejuniorshabadoo
seeing as you dont have vct i'd be going for a gtrs as opposed to anything bigger. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/249470-reliable-250kw/#findComment-4344398 Share on other sites
