I have a GTT with the factory satnav/tv pop-up thingo and just like so many other peoples' before it ..mine died a few days ago. Now I'm stuck with a popup screen that just displays an error msg in japanese and a radio that doesn't work with aussie frequencies...

Is there anyone in Sydney who can

1) remove the tv unit completely and source/install the factory triple guage setup

2) remove the factory radio and replace with a double din cd player

Keep in mind the factory plastic surround on these things is v-shaped, not rectangle so I'd need the replacement rectangle surround so I can fit the new deck into it without leaving gaps

Oh yeah and I'm kinda broke so I need to keep it as cheap as possible. Can anyone recommend someone in Sydney who can do this / has done it before?

actually come to think of it ... I'd be happy with even just having the factory TV setup disconnected from power so that it stays down permanently and just replacing the factory radio with a single din cd player

but I'll still need to somehow source/make a plastic surround to fit the V shape centre console (around the new cd player) .. any ideas?? I was thinking just taking the cover off from the factory radio and cutting it to fit the new single din deck. Would that work?

find a 'Normal' panel and AC controller. that will sort the LOT out. find a mate with a normal car and take his chassis # to nissan and order the parts.

as for trimming the original - nah. copy it onto a bit of MDF. I'll take all of the old stuff with the sub harness when yo pull it out.

any ideas who can make up a surround from mbf ? auto trimmers ?

I've pretty much decided to rip out the screen and replace with the triple guages and rip out cassete player/radio and put a single din aftermarket cd player in it. that should be my cheapest option I reckon

do you have the satnav deck in there too with all the japanese writing??

I want to get rid of my cd/cassette player and put a cd/dvd deck in it, and hooking it upto the pop up screen...then take the satnav unit with the japanese writing on it out and placing like a storage thing in there. Just not sure if that can be done...needhelp too.

I've converted mine, you will need new ac fascia, double din stereo fascia and new metal brackets that hold all of it in the centre console.. do a search, it's been explained before. You can get the parts from nissan or from wreckers - I suggest Nissan as you won't pay any more than wreckers and the parts will be new. It's not so simple if you don't know what your'e doing .. took me a couple of weeks of fuxoring around but I repainted all the bits too.

I have the same setup, and converted mine to a aussie PAL tv, cheapo dvd, and Pioneer cd deck

the clarion factory radio they come with sucks bad. in my car I have a new widescreen in the factory spot still motorized , a DVD player in the top din. and high end pioneer in the bottom din. only due to cost and recycle older gear. the car I have has the a/c controls above the double din but have noticed some of the guys in the UK have them down lower? for gauges i cut out my asstray, and cig lighter for gauge locations, tight fit but if your careful in looks factory.

being a pro installer/shop owner from USA since 1985 now so I've seen it all..lol

oh the widescreen is also running a bumper camera into it, and a outboard GPS stashed behind it.

if you dont want the screen to keep going up just unplug it ? becareful not to snap the dash vents when you remove them to get to the screws.

Im creating a photo archive of my mods to post up for others time permitting , hopefully finished up in the next couple weeks, delayed due to the carbon fiber pods for the tweeters, amp rack and subby box.

all hidden equipment but show/sound off quality on a budget

i regards to the original post, just get a cheap Pioneer, got mine 4 years ago for $200ish... still kicking like new today, even better for you is the el cheapo pioneers for about $100 have everything i have in mine, plus it is ipod compatible and can read AAC files with no prob... thats what i would do anyway....

saphire are you on 12v inside by chance?

Yes Im on the 12v forum too ? is that what you asked...lol

I here you know a lot about the Sat Nav etc. name is Troy by the way. nice to meet another audio junkie..lol
