Hope you have a ball mate! I was SO hoping to win that prize that ONE HD was running :)

Thanks mate, i will

I have never been OS and never been to a F1 GP, so im just about busting at the seems with excitement! I was going to go last year but couldnt get the passport ready in time.

It was hard to divert funds that usually go on the car to travel but i could go on modding the car forever so i thought it was about time

Bris, im not taking a phone over mate but i really think you should be there if you can, they rekon the atmosphere at the night race is right up there as far as F1 races go!

I really hope hamilton and webber can do well, ive been hanging to get a big mclaren jacket but i might just opt for the tshirt they all wear as the trip has cost a fair bit

I might rewatch last years race now i think :D

* Opens Arms for Alonso at the Baron's garage...

I will miss Kimi's animated articulation of the spoken word whilst having the best job in the world*.....

*

Clearly I have the best job in the world,

And Kimi wants to be me!

I cannot belive SPA residents are omplainin about noise, with track mangament having to issue an Environmental Imapct Assessement, obviously they just threw a was of documents at them. Problem is this has now been found to bed deficient and they have had their licence to operate pulled :)

the Kimster could well be the most boring human being to listen to in history; but the fkr can DRIVE, so it's all good

and Kimi's job is better- yours is just even more dangerous

Well, it appears to be a bit of a shame that the Germans didn't run over more of those smelly, crepé eating Belgians with their panzers in WWII... Now that they are complaining about this 'track' noise... MOTHERF*CKERS! Spa in one of the finest and most loved tracks in the world... FFS.... Of ALL the places in Benelux that a person could possibly live, they dwell in the Ardennes, NEXT to a race track... and then have the gall to complain... I think there is a major global shortage of HTFU...

Leaving for Sing in a few hours, soooo pumped! Just hope the Ferrari lads keep the fuel rigs in the garages and their cars out of the concrete barriers! :)

Sitting pretty for turn 1 again, hope the improvements to the track encourage more passing! :) I CAN'T WAIT!!!

how the fk could they let this happen. I might as well just forget about driving cars at all and start taking massive amounts of LSD and just sit in my room playing F1 on PS3. it's about as 'real' as it will get in the years to come...

I went last year..

tips for ya.

1) Heaps of money for booze/water, you'll need it... Badly.. ;)

2) Shorts and short sleeves/T-Shirts are a massive 'must have', people wearing longies and shirts are simply mad, it is sooo hot and muggy, you'll feel like jumping into the river!

3) Curash/baby powder, do not underestsimate the pain and discomfort of jock-itch/rash... Burn baby burn. Prevention is better than cure.

4) Make sure you take an anti-persperant deodorant, you'll sweat like a sow on heat..

5) Have fun, and my teh fez win babeh! :):D

PS, I'll be signing autographs at the KFC near Sim Lim tower... lol, all the Singaporean school kids mistook me and my cuzzybro for Ferrari employees last year.. Funny as! Hahaha, Singaporeans are the coolest/funniest/sweetest people you'll meet, they're always so happy... If you've never been, I'm sure you'll love everything, bar the weather, which sux big monkey nutz..

Its not noise, its music. I was about 15kms from the track when i went, and on the Sat night of the 24hr race i say on the porch drinking dodgy beer and at 11am you could clearly hear the sweetest noise of GT2 and GT3 cars screaming, popping and farting on the downchanges...ok the farting may have been me :)

    • I thought the problem with doing this is the engine needs more timing and therefore is actually less efficient? Modern engines need very little timing to get to MBT, those super sharp edges on the squish pads are probably not the right way to get there but doing away with it entirely doesn't sound right either.
    • this explains the possibility of several maps with different boost levels
    • ok, I understand much better how we can control the boost and increase the number of psi before opening the wastegate
    • Well.... yes and perhaps no. It depends on what you mean by "spool". For most of us, the point that we would describe as where the turbo is "spooling" is the point where the wheel speed gets high enough for it to start making some boost. This is coincidentally around about the point where it starts making noise - hence the "spooling" sound. If that is what you mean, then no - the wastegate should still be shut at this point. The boost will still be way below the point where it should start opening. If, on the other hand, you mean "spool" as "reach full boost", then yes. At the point where the boost has reached target, then boost control has already started. The wastegate is already open, and has been for some time. Some short time, definitely, but still, some time. If you have no boost controller - just the wastegate actuator connected to the boost source, then you have a mechanical system working as a pressure balance. There is pressure on one side of the wastegate actuator's diaphragm from the spring, and pressure on the other side coming from the boost measurement location (the "source"). This is not a digital thing. The wastegate does not stay shut until the boost pressure reaches the spring "pressure". The spring will start to compress as soon as you start to apply any pressure onto it. This can be controlled somewhat by adding pre-load into the spring, but you cannot add enough preload to make it into a digital switch behaviour. The wastegate will crack open and start to leak exhaust out (and therefore not though the turbine) well before you reach the target boost pressure. Electronic (and some mechanical/pneumatic) boost controllers will act to prevent the boost source applying pressure to the actuator until just before you reach target boost, thus preventing the wastegate from creeping open. And some boost controllers will apply boost pressure on the spring side to further push it shut. And this can be be necessary because the exhaust pressure in the manifold also pushes on the wastegate valve and tries to open it and you cab get it leaking even without it being connected to the boost source.
    • A stand alone boost controller will not give you the control you need, unlike a modern ECU. Your boost will always naturally target the wastegate's opening pressure first, your controller then will allow you to add more boost as required.
