Due to a brake upgrade the old spacesaver is now useless. Accordingly I've shoehorned an R34 GTR rim into the cavity normally occupied by the spacesaver, but now I need to secure it. I've got an idea to make up a new piece that goes through the bolt hole in the wheel and screws into the receiver on the bottom of the boot.

I've attached some images if I'm not making myself clear. I've also sketched up something I think I need to get made up to do the job. I'm wondering if I'm making life too hard. Is there another way? Has anyone else done this? Perhaps it's as easy as getting some off the shelf parts and putting it together myself? Keep it simple? Due to the 'cavity' in the rim where the wheel nuts normally go, I'll need a long Umbrako style head to be tightened with an allen key as there is not much room in there for a 'finger key'.

Probably the 2 biggest questions is the diameter of the rod and the pitch of the thread (which looks shallow).

Any advice gladly received.

Cheers.

bring the orininal one along to a specialty nut and bolt place to see if they have a bolt of similar diamitre/thread and length required of the same material. Should only cost you a couple bucks. Maybe saw the original thread off and weld the top of it to the new bolt so you can still and tighten it? You may even want to saw the head off the new bolt too for a flush weld.

This is the first thing that pops in my head.

For those who have a care factor greater than zero, the solution to this is go to a good bolt shop. Dandy Bolts gave me a bolt, washer, and allan key for $3.75 and my spare is now tied down nicely. Easy.
