Hey mates, I know we are all used to the FMIC setup with air to air intercooler setup. But what about this liquid to air cooler setup where the air is forced through a barrel and cooled off by the liquid. This setup has it's own mini rad and stuff. Wondering if you knew much about this company and the products. I would like to see some actual hard numbers or some more information on how it works and its efficiency. Cheers.

They are expensive. A buddy of mine here on Okinawa is running one on his evo. 2bar out of a GT35r all day long--one sode of the intercooler is hot as hell, the other side feels almost ambiant temp right after a run under the hot hood. And he's just using regular water, but he could put ice water in it if he wanted.

mate put simply,go to the drag strip there eveywhere and work getter then any fmic will ever.

iv had them on my tt 20b roary and tt v8s with a lot of success and most top teams in the top end of rotary and turbo v8s are using them or the dry ice cooler.

im about to run one big one in my 32 gtr so ill post pics when she is done.

Thank you rumbles. It's not that I was in a sense indecisive, I just hadnt had any personal experience with them. I can seem to find solid information about their strengths and/or weaknesses. A lot of people still debating them. Looking at their price, I needed more of solid information for me to ditch my current FMIC setup in favor of this. Cheers.

Although i think they are great, there are 1500hp gtr's running air/air intercoolers, and i cant justify the added expense of the water/air. They work well on dyno queens and drag cars though, but really couldnt work significantly better on a road car, and certainly not for a circuit car. The real gain comes from putting a colder substance than water in the cooler, but it only works for a very short period of time.

I have 1 on my Nissan Terrano 4x4. Turbo diesel. Its got a modified HKS turbo running 17psi and it seems great. It has a fan on the radiator that runs full time and works a treat in the bush.

They are expensive tho thats the only down side.

If you where going to run water to air PWR is the only brand that you would consider. PWR is a company built on quality without compromise, but you pay for it; their stuff isnt cheap but when I spend the extra money on PWR stuff I am never disapointed.

My old man has a PWR water-air setup on his blown monaro, works great, but as said they are a bit pricey.

Draconis, have you thought about a FMIC with a water/meth setup? What's the car being used for?

It's gonna be used for street purposes. At the moment 300rwhp is all I'm thinking of so I guess my air/air FMIC will be fine and maybe get a mister kit for it from what I'm reading since I'm not really gonna be demanding much of the motor as of yet.

lol, for 300rwhp (about 210kw atw) the only one you should be considering is the stock standard 32/33/34 GTR cooler. 210kw at the wheels from an RB26 is basically a cat back exhaust and a higher flowing air filter.

They dont give more power than FMIC's are you kidding, -30 intake temps seem to tell otherwise, although you can do the same with a fmic by using a co2 spray. I seriously doubt you will notice any better response over a stock gtr setup, even though they have enormous diameter intercooler piping which is rated at around 1000hp.

Maybe -30 intake temps at first but around a track, the water warms up a fair bit even with a large radiator at the front.

Well, even tho I am seeking only 300 now, I want to get some stuff setup for future use. Reason being is that the car wont stay at 300. I just need to get it running and out of storage for the time being to save some money. I'm thinking in the next couple of years working at the motor and get it running a bit more but if I'm in there doing the swap, might as well do some of the bolt on stuff/easy stuff to get it out of the way.

    • I also just ordered some Frankenstein bolts and side mounts to fit a hard top Just in case I do find one, basically so it doesn't need to be fixed to the car with only the front latch.......and then gaffa tape to keep it in place for the RTN journey from wherever I get it
    • If your temps are fine now, you probably won't have any issues with where your vents are as they don't look right up at the windscreens high pressure area, so any differences when giving it the beans for extended happy laps would be minimal, but, they should vent heaps when stuck in traffic  Much like how that reverse cowl on my SS let "visible" heat out when stationary, but, because it was basically at the windscreen my coolant temps on the Hwy actually raised because air was being fed into it at speed (110kph), to only come back down to around 90° when I got off the Hwy And your 100% correct about the NC currently not needing vents, but, if I was to add a turbo, and a oil cooler and intercooler in front of the condenserand radiator, and then take it to the track???? It is apparently a recommend requirement if I don't want to worry about coolant or oil temp issues, but, any of the above are possible scenarios, over time As it sits now, with the triple pass radiator and stock air conditioning system, I have absolutely no issues with either temps or air conditioning efficiency, I've been basically daily driving thie car for the last month, both on the Hwy, and peak hour, bumper to bumper traffic, but, that's pretty much expected from basically a standard engine  Talking about no issues daily driving, it was 39° the other day and I was sitting in bumper to bumper traffic on the M5 and then M7, with the top down, and with the air conditioning blowing nice cold air on my feet, balls, and face, well, there was one issue, my head and arms got pretty sun burnt Note to self: leave a hat and sunscreen in the car for such days 🤣
    • I would agree, unless you need something specific to the HV motor/battery side repaired or investigated, any mechanic will be able to perform normal services, but if you prefer, maybe look for a mechanic who regularly services/repairs Nissans, the VQ engines are pretty common in the Nissan lineup.  Sorry, I can't make any suggestions, I don't live in Vic.
    • Some of them keep working fine. 9 out of 10 of them end up causing an absolute misery bleeding the system and get thrown on the workshop floor in a tantrum and never thought about again because they were never really needed and just added crap to the car that we could have done without. Same-same with HICAS, A-LSD, and various other stupidities that over eager 10x engineers thought we had to have.
    • Not required but appreciated. Super Coppermix Twin even the non-competition model feels like the pedal is noticeably heavier than stock which was pretty well judged IMO. I'll be swapping in the Nismo operating cylinder soon to see how that feels.  Personally I haven't felt anything that justifies replacing the damping loop, at least compared to more modern stuff where the clutch delay valve is actually quite noticeable.
