Hi lukevl, you raised some good points, that's why I asked for clarification, so we could achieve agreement. Please also note that I never insulted you personally, the company you work for or camshaft upgrades in general. There is not single race car that I look after that does not have upgraded camshafts in it (where the class regs allow for it). Based on my personal experiences, all I have done is question your claim "a customers RB30/25 went from 430hp atw to 570 from putting our cams in".

You quite correctly pointed out that what I said was "I will pay you personally, $10 for every additional horsepower these camshafts produce in our RB31DET over 40rwhp." As you requested I have posted the spec’s of our RB31DET, noting that the GT3040 is in 700 bhp trim so it has plenty of headroom, certainly enough to prove the 40 rwhp.

A quick clarification, I increased the 140 rwhp to 150 bhp to allow for 10 bhp of drive train losses not present on the engine dyno, sorry I should have explained that.

In your quoted car, “went from 430hp atw to 570” it starts off a little below where our sister engine is at 625 bhp and ends up above it. Why shouldn’t I expect the same result (a 150 bhp increase on the engine dyno)? Is it because it already has GTR camshafts? Isky valve springs? Titanium retainers? The engine is well tuned? Please help me out here.

It’s pretty expensive (and a little risky) for me to ship a complete engine with ancillaries to Qld, plus I would need to send our engine tuner for at least 2 days. How about I pay for you to come to Sydney? Bring the camshafts with you, we will have the engine on the dyno, run in and tuned with the standard camshafts. You can then stick your cams in and away we go. If it makes more than 40 + losses bhp, I’ll pay for the cams and give you personally $10 for every bhp it makes over that. If it makes less than 40 + losses bhp then I get the cams for free. If you like you can even bring more than one set of cams, try as many as you can fit into your day.

Have I missed anything?

Yeah, its just that the 40hp estimate was jacked to 150hp it confused the hell out of me.

Providing the engine makes similar power to what you said it will, 40hp won't be hard at all. And thats on top of the GTR cams. The GTR cams are around 15degrees bigger (Low lift) and app. 0.5mm bigger than the 25DET ones.

The only problem is, the deal seems a little shaky at those hp figures, only because if supporting hardware is going to hit its limit, its at these types of HP you are talking about.

Where do you work and whats the number I can contact you on. PM me if you like. I think I can arrange a more sedate deal which will make everyone happy. We need a little bit more detail on your engine.

GT1 and others: Don't get too excited yet, but being the only camshaft manufacturers in Australia, I believe it is our duty to make new cams for the RB twin cam engines. It won't be for a little while yet, but when they are done, they will have excellent metal composition and design to rival the big japanese boys, but at a fraction of the cost. Like I said, good for the economy.
