not sure what the intake pipe mod is, but boost control is not legal, pod must be secure, coilover suspension that is height adjustable is not legal, the adjustable camber kit must be standard, and as long as fmic is securely fitted and no cutting or re-shaping of the reo or chassis is done, it should be fine. That "mod" to the front bar probably wont pass either.

Welcome to the defect state :)

Wait... Wait... Wait... we're walking about a inspection, not a defect check.

Go to the Sturt station to get the inspection. Make sure you remove any OBVIOUS defects (meaning, fat chrome BOV's sitting at the top of the engine in full view). They're not as harsh at the inspection as what a defect would be.

They'll check: engine numbers, tyre placard, spare tyre has 80k/h written on it, etc etc etc.

They WONT check: db test on the exhaust, bushes, hidden turbo timers, hidden bovs, oil leaks, etc.

I HAVE been through an inspection with a turbo timer tucked up in the drivers footwell area. Make sure your rims and tyres are not too large or too wide. Your best bet is to throw stockies on it.

Front bar will most likely pass as long as it doesn't look obviously hacked away at.

coilovers need to be swapped for stock stuff

front bar may or may not pass as it's been cut - discretion of inspector

boost controller equals fail

pod is fine if it's secure

i'm assuming the camber kit just replaces bushes so should be ok

the chromies will be fine for inspection but for everyday driving they are a BIG fail :)

the exhaust will be ok if it's not too loud or hangs too low

keep in mind the regency ID station is not 'regency', it's just around the corner from it. they can still defect you though

you can also take the car to a cop shop like sturt to have the ID inspection done, a little more lenient from what i've heard but i went the regency one myself when i bought my stag back from nsw. feel free to pm me if you've got any other questions/stag related queries :)

ID check, possibly. It depends if they will pick up on it when they open the bonnet, etc as it'd be extra light. But they wouldn't go out of their way to check it.

On that note, alot of people have told me my standard GTR bonnet is fiber-glass light! Which is strange.

unless the bonnet is adr approved then put a stocker on for the check just in case. guards may be ok but these days they need to be passed by an engineer if you want to clear a defect with them on so unsure about ID check

GTR bonnets are made of aluminium

excatly the reason why i didnt put it in to the defect thread.

Thanks for the help everyone as i said this will be my first import/turbo and dont want to get f**ked over buying it, then having to fix everything b4 i can even register the car here in sa.

i brang my stock rs4s here from melb and went for an id check at the place near regency about 6 months ago. a guy looked briefly over the car which i think must be too low with the teins on it (shitn my self ild have to find stockies). but all he made me come back for was the manual in english.

Yes!!!! Make sure you have the vehicles manual in the glove box!! They pinged me for this, too! It's crazy, but it's required.

really? i must have got lucky as mine wasn't in my glovebox when i went through. only had to go back to remove the extra tint that was added to my privacy glass

I got a old chick at my inspection. She walked up to me with her clipboard and said "Where is the cars manual?" and I said "at home" and she then walked off and put a big X next to that box.

I failed that day.

Thats BS..... some of the cars dont even come with manuals.... thats utter stupidity....

I pray to every god out there, pls let us get a single nationwide vehicle scheme. Theyve been talking about it for 10 years and finally we're coming to the make or break point. Once that happens, SA is going to become a hell of a lot more relaxed I think, because we have to put up with petty minded nonsense that NSW and QLD don't have to. If the whole nation was subjected to SA roadworthiness rules, the outcry would be loud and clear.

*fingers crossed, because it seriously cannot get any stupider than our state rules*

Spot on, Dohmar. I was furious when she failed me for having no manual in my glove box. Why is it required?! It's lunacy!

She also said "You need 80k/h written on your spare tyre, like this *gets out texta and writes it on the tyre*...*rubs it off the tyre* just like that."

I felt like saying "Wait... you've just written it on there? How does that fail it?!"

She was a oddball. Although, she had issues finding the engine number stamped on the block, too.

I registered both our cars when we moved to SA without even taking the cars in. As long as you have valid registration papers from your previous state if can just be changed over.

    • I'm hoping I just don't have to do an engine rebuild NOW. Doesn't mean I won't do it at some point. I think a plus point is that the car presumably ran on or close to stock power nearly all it's life so far. Only the Owner I bought it from actually increased power with a standalone ECU and blew the OEM turbos. And after it got thee 2860s it wasn't driven an awful lot either.   That is what I meant. With the twins coming on so late (4500-5000rpm) I hope the rods won't want to exit the block prematurely. And it still being a 26 means the torque curve isn't gonna hike up all that much.   It didn't blow up on the dyno when they tuned it to 500ish crank. So I suppose it'll be okay for now. They did put a Tomei head gasket on first though which did not seal at all, and they redid it with a Cometic one. Which I hope won't be my water leak.   Mainly anything oil. So far all it has is the N1 pump, oil restrictor and a filter relocation kit with a cooler.
    • 15000? ish? Something like that anyway. It wasn;t so much a wear as a tear that then spread. Might have lasted a lot longer if not bothered by just one incident, whatever it was. I took a punt. They are really comfortable and do a good job of holding. My daughter HATED it when I first put them in, and probably still does now. She has sensory issues and hates the way they are all up your business. I'm 197cm and 95kg. Not fat or particularly wide, and the XL size seat is the rigth fit. If I was any fatter it would start to get too snug. Any skinnier and you'd possibly want the smaller width.
    • Mrs rs focus came factory with recaro cs  sportsters in it and they a pain in the ass to get in and out of with the really high bolsters, once you were in them they were one of the most comfortable seats I have ever sat in
    • The NA 2.5 has very little torque. You won't feel much. Those trannies are also a million years old now and it could well be f**ked. First generation electronically controlled autos will often refuse to kick down, ete, etc, depending on what's wrong with them.
    • Yes, but no but yes but no. Those "it's fine up to 500HP" rules and everything else like it were all determined back when the cars were 10 years old. As they are now 30 years old.....what do you reckon the chances of something shitting the bed are? I'd say they are much higher now than they used to be. You might be lucky. You might be unlucky. Spin the wheel and find out. Yeah, nah. It's actually exactly the opposite. Making boost early and having heaps of torque able to be generated right in the middle of the rev range will do more to damage an engine than having to rev it high to make the power. Think about the load on the conrods, bearings, etc, to make 400HP at 4000 rpm, vs 400 HP at 6500 rpm. So someone has already "let the Nissan out" which is how we describe the increased chance of a fiddled with engine to have had something done wrongly. Many more engines that have been opened die than stock ones do - even if you into consideration how they are treated wrt power levels and the like. Again, not saying that yours will definitely have been put back together by a moron. But the possibility does exist. It's still a lottery. Spin the wheel. What weakspots?
