got my bilstein/whiteline kit from sydneykid on xmas eve, put swaybars, front/rear shocks and springs in just after new years. did anone else have any issues with knocking sounds going over bumps in the front and rear? inserted a rubber stop from the stock front suspension under the top bolt and that fixed the front, just wondering if we missed something installing them? had 2 mechanics helping and they are sure everything was done correctly. Rear's knock a fair bit over fast bumps too as if the shock is crashing up to strut top. any ideas? we had to use the stock strut tops on the new kit too. Tried searching on the forums but my uselessness couldn't find much.

I'm having the same issue's as you are at the moment with the SK suspension but only on the front end (r33).

I've cut the bump stops down to the point where they're nearly doing nothing :P. While the car is on the ground you can see and feel the travel between the bump stop and the strut top is just under an inch!

My front shocks bottom out over smooth speed bump at a normal speed and I dread pot holes of any size.

I think the shock absorbers provided do not suit the application. They don't have enough travel to suit the car or the spring. The only cost effective way I can see to fix the issue is to get heavier springs, which will make the already bad ride quality worse.

Anyone else having these issues please post here.

I have heard of some cases about the front's not having much travel, even at the normal circlip height.

Does anyone else have the same problem?

Is it just a limitation of the Skyline front suspension, or has it got to do with the Bilsteins?

I've had it 2 below and then 1 and now normal circlip height. It bottomed out often at the 2 below height on speed bumps. Much less (maybe a third as much) on 1 below and only twice in 3 months since putting at normal height. Bump stops should not be cut too low as they help if you are always hitting the end of travel. I suggest putting it at normal height, that extra 8mm will help a lot.

Or get higher rated springs (I think about 10 - 20% more than the King/whiteline springs would have been a better anyway.)

Ohh and I live in a back street in Westend, I take about 20 speed bumps to and from work each day at about 30kmh.

i managed to sort out the fronts by using 2 2mm washers with a 15mm rubber between then above the strut top and below the shock end bolt, this fixed all knocking issues from the front. Plan to do the same at the rear. One thing ive noticed is that during mild to hard cornering where theres a slight undulation in the road i do notice a slight scrape sound, could be wheel raising up and making slight contact with inner guard plastic or even front bar (front bar goes pretty close to wheels when they go lock to lock)

might take some snaps when we do my car this weekend.

    • Ha ha ha, mine loves to spend, all on the dogs (they're our kids, and her spending would likely rival that of some people raising children!) the only benefit is, her spending is tax deductible as she runs a business in the dog industry 😛 The above all means she can spend race car budget quicker than I can. 😛 That and a lot of the things I want are very expensive, and I can be a bit "you want how much for that?!" And at other times overly impulsive. Or I start the w days of research, get to day 1.5 and get really annoyed that no one will advertise actual specifics and it's just marketting BS and I go "well, now I don't want anything to do with that now!" Also I hate paying lots of money for something I can make from $50 in materials. Then I get the shits halfway through making things and wonder why others who just buy parts have more fun... 😛
    • Their 240Z with the RB26 would be a real nice thing to have in a garage to come out for an occasional weekend cruise It's such a cool thing in so many ways Sadly, we have a blue 240Z shell that I walk past every day, just sitting outside a shed at work, it has been slowly disintegrating and falling apart into the ground for the last few years, the owner cannot be found, and I am unable to "claim it" I've been told by work and the RMS, the rust in the body is excessive though, and it has had most of the salvageable stuff, like panels, trim and switch gear stripped off it over the last year or two, work keeps threatening to put it in one of our metal scrap bins, I wish they did though, as it makes Mark sad walking past it
    • Good tips, I like it! 😂😂 My wife is a LOT more frugal than me so it's only me we need to worry about! A splurge to her is buying 2 pairs of socks in one visit at Kmart!
    • Haha, the appropriate response to the question "Is this new?" is "I've had this for a while.". With the unspoken small print that a while may be the time since this morning or five years ago   And to be fair I learned that from the best, i.e. my wife. Because it goes both ways.
    • Yeah kids certainly add a whole another dimension to your life.  Life ceases to be about you and more about them for a while!  And I wouldn't have it any other way.  I love watching them play sport and make new friends along the way. Wow, sounds like your mate is a good guy to know!!!  He's got some serious toys in the toy box!  Yes it would be lovely to be able to do stuff to your car without getting all tied up in boring shit like how to pay for it!!  I would describe my spending style as "aggressively spontaneous and logical but regrettable purchasing"....  That will hopefully make no sense at all which would be appropriate given that is how I buy stuff.  I'll decide at the drop of a hat that I'm buying something expensive, research the living shit out of it for 2 days straight then go out and buy it.  Then I'll have instant buyers remorse for 2 days which generally passes by the time it turns up on the front step!  If I'm feeling ballsy sometimes I'll tell my wife.  Other times it just makes its way silently passed the house and out the back to the shed, never to be spoken of again...
