I'm looking to bring in a 32GT-R but I have a few queries. (It wont be a 15yo one)

I realise that if the car is modified, it has to be returned to stock for the compliance and registration. To be over simplistic, is it possible to pick up the car once it lands and passes thru customs, bring it home or to a workshop, turn it to stock and then deliver it to the compliance workshop? Or does the car have to be delievered to the compliance workshop within a set period of time?

I rang UPI the other day and they told me they would be able to comply a modified car after it had been returned to stock but they are not able to comply 32GT-R's for at least another 2 months. Is there anyone else in Victoria that can bring a car in for me and comply it for me once I have returned it to stock ??

aybee, thats unfortunate. I'd have to enquire as to what the costs would be for them to return the car to stock for me if that is the case? Do you know of any workshops that can comply the 32GT-R now tho?

predator666, wasn't looking for a loophole mate. Just asking if I could import a car and deliver it to a compliance workshop as a stock car. What I do with the modified parts and car thereafter has nothing to do with it.

On the Contrary. What you do with the modified parts matters a great deal. You have to prove the parts bought in on the car has either been:

A: Destroyed, in which case they want to see a document of proof from the people who destroyed them

or

B: The parts must be sold, in which case you need a receipt of sale and a bank statement that proves the money has been paid into your account.

Dont think its as easy as "I will put them on later" They are not dumb, and know exactly the loop holes in the previous system.

Interesting point RedR32. I asked Geoff Risbey the same question and he said you did not have to destroy the parts and could just bolt them back on, hence my interest in the the idea.

I want the car for some track fun but my understanding of the Race/Rally rego rules are you need to provide specific details on the competition you are entering, timed club days or driver training etc don't count which counts out that idea also. The other thing is that a normally complied car will be much easier to sell later on when required.

Firstly, I would actually ask someone that is going through the process (I dont believe Geoff is) on what you can and cant do. Dean from upi would be the man. I believe (stand to be corrected) he is the only one in Vic applying at the moment for the R32 GTR compliance plate.

Secondly, its not as easy as "Importing it under race/rally"

You have to be a CAMS member and have a certain level CAMS license. With your application to import for race/rally ,it must be

accompanied with a log book,showing you actually competing in race events.

Like i stated before, the government know the loop holes in the old system and have taken measures to quash them

yes if you using geoff risby as an example think of all those people with the car in japan waiting till the end of next year.

dean knows his stuff and definatly will be doing r32 gtr's.

there could be others coming on line quicker but I havent heard of any.

Red, I know all that regarding Race/Rally hence why I stated its not an option.

I don't know if it was Dean, but I did ring UPI as I wanted them to comply the vehicle. I was told that 32GT-R is min. 2 mths away and modified cars can be done provided they are returned to stock. He made no mention of the fact parts had to be destroyed.

In any case, that is the answer I was looking for. I'll just have to wait the 2mths or so until Dean has completed the required process to comply 32GT-Rs.

Please dont think you are the only one waiting. :(

As megs stated, imagine all of Geoff's customers who's cars are being stored untill 1st of Jan 2004. I wonder what he is planning, as he is only obliged to store them until then.

    • I have multiple bottles in a shed that gets hot, and I'm in SEQ, so it's humid. Maybe we test their theory... Anyone have a system to accurately measure moisture content in oil?
    • Yeah, that and throwing away opened, part used, closed back up bottles has got to be bullshit. Brake fluid sits in not-very-well sealed master cylinder reservoirs for literal years and keeps working (albeit we know we should flush it every couple of years - it actually still works). Anything kept in a bottle in the shed with a tightly capped lid has got to be a million times better than what has been in the car for the same length of time.
    • Wait, they're claiming UNOPENED fluid has a shelf life of only 18 months?
    • The plan is to get it out of the shed. The reality may fall some way short. But hope is as cheap as despair as they say. Will go a wide band I think. The coils are ok so maybe I’ll miss the $1500 on the R35 coils etc. Im still on the fence about a trigger kit. The HKS one looks nice ($1k) - not sure how it works with the Link or if Link prefer something else. Oil pressure is fine so I’m not that concerned there. Fuel pressure I’ll have a think about. The IAT got changed for the Link anyway as the old RB26 ones were really slow reacting and pretty poor. The Power FC just worked. Wasn’t terribly refined but it just worked. Probably made a mistake replacing it really. E85 isn’t available locally - it is 100+ kms away which puts it in the too hard basket. Lastly I understand Tunecorp in Perth are pretty good so was probably going there.   As for turbos is there are new age -5 drop in replacement? Turbos have come a long way in 20 years, everyone is big single which is fair enough but I prefer the old school complication of twins. Wasn’t chasing more power (well, not much more) but more efficiency would be ok.
