So this morning I finish washing my car and knew I was low on fuel so I drove to the closest BP to fill up and I turn in and all the pumps have 'Sorry Out Of Order' signs on them...

I drove to another BP hoping I wouldn't run out of fuel and the same deal there!

I asked the guy why there wasn't any ultimate and he said something about BP missing a shipment or something?

It's the only fuel I use so I decided I had to put in atleast 10$ of normal premium and then decide which fuel to top up with later on..

Bit confused at which to go for at the moment.

Vortex / V-Power (if its still around?) / The United one.. / Mobil Synergy 8000 or whatever its called - or another!? if any?

Sure the question of which fuel is 'best' has been asked many times before, but id like some 'current' feedback before I head to fill up >,<

thanks :)

I had the exact same thing happen to me on Tuesday night, went to my closest BP and all ultimate pumps were out, went to the other BP bit further down the road and the same thing!!

Also a friend in another area went to her BP that same night and it was out. I didn't ask anyone at the station what the story was but I guess you have and now we know....

Thankfully I was not too low as I really do not think my car will run on regular and I dont want to have to fk around with octane booster etc...

I will fill mine up with Mobil Synergy 8000 either today or tommorow as it is the next best petrol in my opinion plus I seem to get better fuel economy out of it...

Haha, I can't believe BP have run out of Ultimate (even if its only in this state)... thats pretty fkn bad!

They've been like this since atleast early this week... And the servo I went too had regular at 95cpl :)

I use mobil when there is no bp, but I get worse around town economey, and I won't touch shell, never runs well in this car and never did in the datto

ummm i decided to try bp ultimate instead of my usual vpower and there was no difference in performance/powerband etc

oh and fuel economy was negligable, 10-20k difference a tank.

i noticed my knocks went down about 4 spots but then again it was a cold night, im sticking to vpower or ultimate but im reluctant to try mobil/vortex

Would a car that is tuned with v-power run better on v-power and vice versa? Is that one reason why some people including myself see differences and some dont? My car was tuned just after filling up with mobil 8000 and now it runs better on mobil and bp. Dont get as many km's out of v-power or united etc etc.

I spoke to the guys at work about this and as of last week BP were running very low on Ultimate stocks so it is possible they have not yet got a shipment hence the servos are running out. I work for Reliance Petroleum (regional BP) just so you know.

Oh and I also fill up with Ultimate because my car likes it (I don't get it cheaper or anything cos I work for head office either :D ), VPower runs shite in my car, 8000 and Vortex are fine

It was a while ago but I am sure my firend talked to a tanker driver who was filing up the stations tank with BP Ultimate. The driver said they filled the tanker up with BP Ultimate at the same place the tankers filled up with Mobil Synergy8000. So it would mean they are the same thing. Obviously I can't confirm it any more than that but it wouldn't surprise me if that was the case. I've heard a few people mention they get less slightly knock with these two fuels over Shell and others.

As far as better economy goes, surely you can't really try and compare a difference of 20km. That could easily be influenced by the way you fill up each time and it would only take a few more squirts of the throttle on the one tank compared to the other.

    • But, do I have to? 😬
    • While doing my tailgate struts I found some rust. Also replaced my bonnet struts. Such a cool satisfaction with that job.
    • So I removed as much as I could from both sides. The shop vac did a great job of clearing 99% of it. I got it all as clean as I could and then absolutely drenched the whole lot in the rust converter. Tonight or tomorrow I'll hammer it again. The cavity must be close to 400mm in length and surprisingly I was able to get it right to the back.  I'll quickly reassemble and then pretend I never saw it. I'll post pics (for me to ignore later) soon.
    • Yea she is a hoot to drive
    • I have always resisted the urge to go silly. 8" wide wheels and street friendly spring rates? Check. (Let's not talk about the steadily increasing spread of spherical joints across my suspension!!) Stock turbo, run at 12 psi? Check. Lasted for~?10 years before it died. Highflow put on rather than seizing the opportunity to go G45. You don't need 300 rwkW, let alone the more massive numbers that seem to be essential these days, to have a car that is already way too powerful and fast for a streeter. ~250rwkW is fine. I've never exceeded 200, although I will sneak up above it if and when I manage to get my finger out and do what needs to be done to use the highflow's capacity. You don't need $10k worth of CF bits glued onto the outside. You don't need razor sharp ankle cutting front splitters. You don't need the car to be 2" off the ground. You don't need flawless paint, mirror finished wheels, brand new indicator lenses, etc etc. All these things just make the car impractical and will cause you pain when they get damaged, which is inevitable for a street car. A few nice additions are good. Good seats are good. A nice stereo is good. A/C is good! (46° on the road yesterday and my A/C is degassed again. Was moderately traumatic driving home!) The main reason I stick with a mildly modified old Skyline is that I have had it for >25 years, the mods are the rolling result of 25 years of things dying and being upgraded opportunistically, coupled with a few "just 'coz" ones. And I hate almost all modern cars. If I was a young buck starting out now.... I wouldn't bother. Cars have a few years left where there is any possibility of interest or fun. Thereafter there will be no such thing allowed or possible. Any time, money and effort spent now on a project would just be a waste.
