Also interestingly (this is always an interesting topic) - Nizpro only use 63mm on their 400rwkw+ XR6 setups. They are taller than a GTR item, but not as wide (they are bolt in replacement).

Now those cars have the MPH to back their power levels (130mph+ in a FG FPV), so they certainly aren't being restricted by any means of the word :)

Well different kettle of fish my friend, 4000cc motor that is capable of 400kw (lets not mention the 1000nm of torque at 3000rpm lol) at alot less boost pressure than that of our little 2600cc milk crate motors.. In saying that i dont know really know much about XR's but thats the direction that common sense seems to point me towards

Is there a thread discussing tie down methods to hold gtr's onto the dyno properly? I will be booking more dyno time soon and want to do all the tuning in 4th so I can compare my results to what everyone else does.

What has boost pressure got to do with it? Its about the volume or air/airflow through the cooler and its ability to cool it with as low a pressure drop as possible. Coolers work efficiently when they have turbulent flow through them as all those excited air particles bounce off the wall of the intercooler and allow them to transfer heat. So by nature anything that cools will have a pressure drop across it. Otherwise a straight bit of pipe would offer less pressure drop , but of course nowhere near the cooling.

So I suppose you can make the assumption that a turbo at 18psi may have cooler outlet temps then something spinning 22psi. But hp is hp and requires a certain amount of cfm to achieve. So whether its a 4L at 6,000rpm or a 2.6L at 8,500rpm...an intercooler doesnt care or know the difference. It just has to pass air and cool it

Your 5 th is 1:1 though Ian as is R32/R33's 4th. Although you have a slightly taller diff ratio.

True, but I've noticed that a lot of the other R34 dyno sheets in circulation (from known tuners like Racepace and RIPS) seem to be done in 4th. The only reason I want to use 4th is for comparison purposes. Roller speed maxes out around 200km/h in 4th at about 7500 rpm from memory.

Dyno sheet in RPM rather than road/roller speed?

My dyno sheets have had both so far.. but the sheets I am aiming to compare too don't. And while 4th gear vs 5th gear results should produce very similar power figures, the torque and boost response curves are completely different. On the street I'll get full boost at 4500, but on a dyno the car wants off the rollers if it is loaded up at 12km/second to achieve the same response curve.

i love how you ask loaded questions when you know the answer - i know, ya know.

I know Racepace do use "dyno wheels", just a set of R34 GTR rims with tyres for a lot of cars when doing comparo's etc. That way at least everyone uses the same rim/tyre combo. Also so that people don't have their semi's chewed out given the cars that go in there.

I think doing it that way is a good idea for parity sake. Im not sure other workshops do the same, however I've seen some that do so depends where i guess.

So because this thread is full of sooks who want NA response and big block Chev amounts of torque rather then old school kick in the ass when the big single hits....I am curious to know of those making 400rwkws, what power are you making at 4,000rpm and 5,000rpm.

Agreed.. you wouldn't think changing the intake would be a restriction though would you.. you think that would be the least of the restriction...

Anyhow - just pointing out they 'change something' when getting up to those levels.

I'll have to do a back to back myself someday just for interest. I'd like to log the intake temps and pressure drop over a known 'load' etc and see what happens.

I am curious to know of those making 400rwkws, what power are you making at 4,000rpm and 5,000rpm.

3500 RPM = 140 RWKW

4000 RPM = 190 RWKW

4500 RPM = 260 RWKW

5000 RPM = 350 RWKW

5500 RPM = 395 RWKW

Peak power is 426 @ 7500 RPM

8000 RPM = 415 RWKW

Have you got the same figures for GT-RS's handy?

I only have these figures on me right now;

3000rpm = 150rwkw

4000rpm = 235rwkw

Thats compared to the old setup;

3000rpm = 70rwkw

4000rpm = 120rwkw

Should add, not that it's slow, but these numbers are done with the wrong cams, i'm certain a cam change will net a bit more gain but with a new engine on the way the current one will stay as is and nothing be changed on it before its removed and stored somewhere

    • You're making my point for me. 95 is not "premium". It is a "slightly higher octane" version of the basic 91 product. The premium product that they want people to buy (for all the venal corporate reasons of making more profit, and all the possibly specious reasons of it being a "better" fuel with nicer additive packages) is the 98 octane stuff. 95 is the classic middle child. No-one wants it. No-one cares about it. It is just there, occupying a space in the product hierarchy.
    • 98 and 95 have to meet the same national fuel standards beside the actual RON.  91 has lower standards (which are quite poor really), so 95 is certainly not 91 with some octane booster. It would be an easier argument to claim 98 is just 95 with some octane boosters. Also RON doesn't specify 'quality' in any sense, only the octane number.  Anything different retailers decide or not decide to add to their 95 or 98 is arbitrary and not defined by the RON figure.
    • Anyone know alternatives to powerplus tungsten? Can't find an alternative online. 
    • 95 is just a scam outright. 98 is the real "premium" with all the best detergents and other additive packages, and at least historically, used to be more dense also. 95 is just 91 bargain basement shit with a little extra octane rating. Of course, there's 91 and there's 91 also. I always (back in the 90s early 2000s) refused to put fuel in from supermarket related fuel chains on the basis that it was nasty half arsed shit imported from Indonesia. Nowadays, I suspect that there is little difference between the nasty half-arsed shit brought in by the "bargain" chains and the nasty half-arsed shit brought in by the big brands, given that most of it is coming from the same SEAsian refineries. Anyway - if there's still anything to that logic, then it would apply to 95 also. 98 is only made in decent refineries and, as I said, is usually the "premium" fuel, both in terms of octane rating and "use this because it's good for your engine because it's got the unicorn jizz in it!".
    • Yeah since those first 2 replies I actually went and put some 98 in it and tbf it's already doing much better than the 95 (which is weird and makes my inner tinfoil hat wearer think the 95 was a crap batch), getting 8ish around town. Again, wonder if it takes a while to stabilize if the fuel is changed a couple of times. I swear cars used to just either run "well" or "s**t* in my 20s, none of this fuel optimisation business haha
