Thermodynamics. Higher boost pressure = more heat.

For the same turbo yes. But when people are running different turbos etc then the thermodynamics of each compressor vary greatly and I think its an assumption to thing that say a GT35R running 20psi will heat the inlet air more then -5s at 17psi

.....I think what he is trying to say is that a 4L motor on an XR6 requires less boost (since its a bigger container) to get same airflow and HP as a 2.6 Litre motor does all things being equal - and therefore is concluding there is less heat to take out (due to less boost required) and hence a smaller intercooler for same or similar effective output....

...I did read that the Hybrid coolers flow real well with very little pressure drop even at some big numbers. But when you look at the inlet temp at the manifold its higher then you would like to see. Whats the general rule of thumb on inlet temps again? Its something like 10deg C is 1% of hp ?!?!?!?

What is peoples experience of intercoolers and inlet temps? I have alway observed an inlet temp within 20deg of what my AC says is ambient temp. No idea if thats good or not...i know I have a HKS air filter and no cold air shroud around it

How good are ARC coolers? Got one on my gtr, looks to be 70ish mm thick, delta fin style I think, definetly not bar and plate or tube and fin...

Would they support mid to high 300kw at 20 plus psi? It isnt that thick, could this be a problem?

It Came with the car otherwise I would of still be running the stock one lol

It's fine. Steve has a 70 mm ARC well past 400.

Daniel with the Midori 34 has a 70 mm ARC and has cracked 400 with 2530's.

Interestingly they mention the magic 400kw on their front page and offer a 'big' intercooler for it...

Doesn't say how big - just in the 'intake size'.

And read the rest of the sentence :)

If chasing numbers in the 400 rwkW plus range you can order what is known in-house as the BIG BIG cooler. Still using the same intercooler core this until has a larger alloy cast end tank that takes a 63mm inside diameter hot side intercooler pipe

Anyway I'm going on holidays for a fortnight. Keep discussing, i'll return and call you all wrong in 2 weeks :P

3500 RPM = 150 RWKW 400 nm

4000 RPM = 210 RWKW 500 nm

4500 RPM = 300 RWKW 610 nm

5000 RPM = 355 RWKW 660 nm

5500 RPM = 395 RWKW 655 nm

6000 RPM = 412 RWKW 645 nm

6500 RPM = 412 RWKW 590 nm

7200 RPM = 412 RWKW 545 nm

Limited to 7500 RPM, and running out of injectors
