Battery Form-factor For V35 Coupe. (?)

Car seems to lose it's charge, over a couple of days, if I don't drive it everyday, (which I don't)...Jump start see's it going well.....charges nicely.....not exactly a great battery anyway, doesn't turn over real nice....jump starts are ace!

(no, I don't think it's the alt diode-packs!)..(checked 'car-off' current draw, it was negligible)).

Now...to try and find a battery....I believe that 400-420 CCA should do it.......problem is, all the batts I looked at today are 330 (in the same form factor) or have large posts....or are on the wrong side (pos left, neg right)

I have a massive battery in the Festiva...480 CCA!!!, might have a go at modding the posts on that!..(er..nahhh, maybe not)

I'll keep looking!...(um..with your help?)

Same case as mine. the batteries are basically shitting themselves out as you can imagine how long they've been sitting in the docks.

those that survived on cars that landed and complied is just a matter of time before the batteries died.

The closest one I found locally (although 1cm shorter - which means you'll need to adjust the bolt on the battery hold down bracket) is either Bosch BNS60LS or Century NS60LS (both are made in bosch anyway). This have the correct polarity position (positive on the right) with 2 types of terminals, big and small. The catch is on mine I have to cut away a corner of the positive terminal cover as the bigger terminal gets in the way. easily done with a cutting knife.

They cost about $90-ish from auto stores, can be $100+ depending if there's promotion or not.

I've got one lying around but it needs a charge. It's basically a brand new bosch BNS60LS but I left the dome light on 3 days and it flatted out and needed another charge, and I had to buy a new one as at that time the car (not rego'ed yet) was in the wrong position so a jump start cable cannot reach the battery position. and RACV refused to come to help me jump start it as they did not service unregistered car, damn. So I went to buy a new one as I ran out of time to get the car to Vicroads the next day.

The bosch battery been sitting in my garage since Feb or March last year. Almost a year old now with little or no charge in it and not being used at all, was only in the car for a few days. So I'm not sure if it can be revived again, and I'm not sure how much it cost in the shop to recharge a battery.

You can have it for $20 if you want to take the risk.

If it can be recharged again and come back to live (retain its charge), you'll save a lot.

It's 400CCA by the way. I think 300-ish CCA is more than enough as that's what I currently use (Century NS60LS)...

thanx mate.....I found a batt at Repco (330cca, correct posts and position/dimensional size) for a hundgey and 35 bucks.

I found my old R33 batt (270 CCA) and I remember that doing just fine!.(it's dead now)..think I'll go with the Repco one.

hey mate I had exactly the same problem as you.

If I didnt drive my car for a week, the battery would lose its charge and I would have to charge it again. I tried to prolong this for a a few weeks but got bloody annoying.

So I went to super cheap, repco etc to buy a battery.....they only battery they had was 330cca which fitted our terminals and battery bay.

With all the elctornics our car has I wanted a higher CCA, so I went to Battery World and they gave me a 500CCA which fits our terminals and battery bay perfectly...cost 150, but for piece of mind it was worth it.

No problems ever since!

hey guys, just an update....was a little bit pissed off, but all good now.

Decided to hold off, just a day, to see if I couldn't find a better batt/price....(hey, I have the cash, but why give it to assholes?)

Went to Supercreep Auto, found the bog standard and recommended 270CCA NZ40L for the SkLine at $95.

I went back to Reepo, as I had found a 330CCA batt for $135 with the correct form factor, but that had been just sold.

Then thought about the 270CCA and how I sometimes have a coffee and watch DVD while in the car and in the garage, just for shits and giggles. Reepo were selling the EXACT same 270CCA batt (with 'their' sticker attached) for $115.

So, again, for shits and giggles, and as I was already there, I approached the 13 year old emo and asked if I could get the 270CCA for the same price as Supercreep Auto were selling theirs...and was told that they can't price match different batteries...I tried explaining (not in any serious manner) that the batts were identical, even the plastic welded factory numerical data markings were the same, just you had licked and slapped your Reepo sticker on it......(hey, I've been a great customer for Reepo since 1985, and was thinking, stupidly, that they would try and keep me(???)..I know emo would've not known that, but hey.

So anyways, drive further down Ferntree Gully Road, and my old haunt, 'Spares Gallore', and I popped in, still looks the same 25 years later, and still trying to sell that fan belt I saw hanging up all those years ago (you know what I mean)

and immediately saw the battery......'SUPACHARGE' (a well known brand) sealed cells, magic eye, correct form factor and posts and 380CCA!!.

"um...ehmuchisit?" I asked...old bloke said $99...I thought to myself...nah, but I won't say anything...guy checks his computer (an IBM AT286, I believe)..and it's $99!.....

(I did ask the guy how long the batt had been sitting around for, he said "not too long", the batt schtickers confirmed this)

Chucked it in the Line, and I've never heard the motor catch-on so quickly!!....Then I let it idle, charge up a little...and the next start is even more hornier!!

I'm off to watch 'Gold Member' in it now.....

can't you just upgrade the terminal into a larger size? I know that 350z have a Bigger battery compare to the V35. Notice that G35 in USA also have the same size as the 350z here. I don't know why the Japanese cars have such a small battery. Must be trying to be green now lol.

Following up on this, for a V35 Sedan (2001, 300GT).

The stock Yuasa (factory original!?) battery was toast after a small...incident...yesterday when driving from Melbourne to Sydney. (Ran out of fuel 800m from the bowser, then forgot to turn off the headlights when pushing it around).

After browsing this, and other forums...

..and manufacturer/retailer sites....

..and calling companies that were mostly closed due to the public holiday....

...I got the NRMA Battery Service to come and with the NRMA member discount, had a new battery installed for $140.

Details:

NRMA 2384 "Premium"

CCA370

"RC55" (no idea what this marking means).

3 year warranty

10 minutes to install and test, and it starts like a demon now. Also found, in the battery compartment:

a 50 Yen coin

that the car has a dealer-fitted electrical "anti corrosion" system, which runs current through the body to ward off rust. (!!)

RC = Reserve Capacity (measured in Ampere Hours) ... what you really should be looking for when you want to run things off the battery only.

CCA isn't an indication of how long the battery will run with all your electronics in the car. That's an indication of how much current can be drawn from the battery by your starter motor (and other electronics on the ignition circuit). The higher the CCA, the crisper your starts will be until they can be no more crisper.

So in effect, if you get a battery with say a CCA of 600A and a RC of 40Ah, it's not going to be a better battery than say one with CCA of 500A and RC of 65Ah which will still give you the same crisp starts in your vehicle with an even greater reserve capacity for playing your DVD's for longer shits and giggles.
