Hey guys i have a r34 25gt and about 1 week ago while driving my engine light came on, so i pulled over and turned off the engine and turned it back on again, it was gone for about 15mins and it came on again, i took the car to this crappy mechanic and they didn't have the computer to analyze the error code. But they told me to reset my computer by taking the battery and if the engine light dosnt come on again everything should be fine, so i did what he said and surely the engine didn't come back on.

But today while driving to work the engine light came back on, but after work i took it for a drive and it didn't come back one....anyone have any ideas what problem this could be?

I called my local nissan dealer and they said their computer is not compatible with imported skylines...is there any mechanic around Sydney that has a computer that can analyze the error codes?

also a quick question i have a semi auto r34 and theres a button with A/T SNOW what is that for?.

cheers

sorting this out is just so simple if you put a teenie bit of effort in - you absolutely don't need Nissan dealer or anyone

you can get the error code in about 2 mins all you need is a piece of wire - I am not going to explain everything as the topic has been covered many times on here (SAU) - what I will recommend is YOU download the R34 Engine Manual - FREE ON NUMEROUS WEBSITES - just google it - then spend all of about 5 mins reading it - it tells you everything you need to know and do

you will probably then work out you have a Code 21 and take all of our words for it that means new coils (Splitfires best) - we all have been thru what you are now experiencing - FIRST just the checklite restart and all appears OK but soon enough if you do nothing one day the car will begin very serious misfiring maybe even to point of not driveable - not good if you are 100s k s from home

believe me you don't need Nisssan dealer or mechanic to fix the problem - so save big money avoiding labour service charges and get to it

Cheers

i wen to get it tested today, came out with error code 21 : main ignition system (something like that), the mechanic reset the computer for me and said if it comes on again come check it again and if its the same error code then its your coilpacks, and on my way home the engine light came on again.

so how long do you guys think i have until it start to mis fire?

mine came on when i was driving home from work, it came up with the engine light, did an engine diagnostic cuz it sounded n drove like a rexi (no offence lol :D )...

replaced all coils with splitfires n been beaut eva since.. no point replacing the bad 1 cuz if 1ns screwing up its more than likely they will all start going...

strange it aint miss firing already tho

<br />yeah the car is not shaking or miss firing.... its pretty weird<br />i wanna make sure before spending 700$ to change them <img src="http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":3some:" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /><br />

its a real nuisance about o.e.m R34 coils but there is no option except pull your coils out and find the duds - my experience was Code 21 randomly appearing first with absolutely no noticeable effect but within less than a 1000k big trouble - it was suddenly so bad it was virtually undriveable luckily I was only about 3 k from home so ran it back anyway on about 4 cylinders as it was early Sunday and no traffic about - not a nice experience - hardly made it back - put in new coils and instant new car feeling!

this is what you need to do.

Take the kick panel off, take the ecu out of the car (undo the 10mm bolt) unplug ecu from harness.

Then plug the ECU back in, when you put it in just tightening up the 10ml bolt is NOT good enough, give the bolt 2 turns then push the plug in on EACH side then repeat this untill the bolt is tight.

Make sure the ECU is pluged in ALL the way and there is no gap. I have seen this happen on countless nissans where people DON"T put the ecu back in properly and they get error codes and engine lights because a sensor does not have a good enough connection.

Try this and let me know how it goes before spending big $$$ on coil packs. Even if it looks like its connected properly, still take it out and put it back in the same i explained.
