Well it has been exactly one year since I bought the GT-R and it was time to renew my insurance. I received the renewal in the mail, opened it expecting a slight reduction ($3500 for the first year, 22 year old), to my surprise found out I will be paying only $2200 this year, that's a $1300 drop after the first year!! How great is that?:D

Has anyone experienced such a huge drop in their insurance? Just shows that skyline owners are great drivers :)

And before anyone ask's I am with Just Cars.

This just made my week:) .

hi stew,

we must have bought our gtr's at the same time! mines red and 1993 too! which area are you in? dont seem to bump into you at all?? i'm in the southside. i didnt get a drop in my insurance costs this renewal :) that's why i changed insurers from suncorp to nrma! they were cheaper by $400!

it was a pleasant suprise for me too because a year ago, i called nearly all insurers in the yellow pages and was only able to find 4 insurers willing. this year, many more insurance companies seem to be willing to insure imports...they must all be quite greedy as they all see that you could charge an arm and leg and be able to get away with it!

I live on the northside, Narangba. Noone lives out here:) .

I was shocked at first, checked all the details to make sure everything was right and it was. An extra $1300 to spend else where:D .

That not too bad. I have just sold an investment property and made a tidy profit and am currently toying with the idea of buying a GTR. That insurance you quote is less than a grand more than what I pay now for my GTST and I am 26 with a rating 1. I though it would be worse than that. That is one more for the for column. Lets see, 1000 fors and 1 against for buying a GTR. MMMMMM, might have a GTR yet before the years out.

I travel around the Northside quite a bit, used to live in Caboolture and still go up there a bit to see the folks. Maybe I shall see you around up there!

ph, has it increased with the modification level, have you been naughty, anything like that?

It would cost me 1200 or so to insure comprehensively, with bulk excess.

Something to do with all these fines and modifications....

Still a bit of a ripoff for a car with $4000 market value at best.

    • A little follow up here on the ceramic coating.  We've had storms galore here and I've done a few ks, enough to gross them up  Consensus is that they didn't get as dirty as usual, the coating definitely repelled a little of the dirt and I think they kinda snowball. They get a little dirty and then they get dirty faster which makes sense. Cleaning them regularly would allow them to protect better.  Cleaning was a breeze. I tried first to just hose them off which, unsurprisingly, did nothing. But, making the wheels wet and then just wiping them over with a used but clean microfibre cloth was all that was required. I didn't need any cleaner at all, just water and a cloth. The wheels look amazing again.
