Have you ever really had a chance to talk a highway patrol officer?
Yep... Talked to a TMU officer over NYE and she came across as a bigger hoon than any of us :(.

Didn't really talk about defects, etc, as there was no point; The law is clear and if you break it you risk getting defected.................simple. Police don't make the law, it is up to their discretion to enforce it.............. however silly some laws may be.

Sure enough, but like most regs and legislature, it is open to interpretation and that is one of the core issues I will be addressing. Practical, fair and logical enforcement of these laws.

Is the person you're going to talk to anyone of influence or one of the ticket writers?

If they have some influence in procedural issues I can see some of the questions that have been asked as worth while.

If they're one of the rank and file all you'll get is quoted s.o.p or a personal opinion, none of which would be worth the effort.

Also remember these people are not mechanics or engineers.

I wanna know why only one intake mod is allowed? I'm lucky in the fact I have a GTR so can replace the intercooler and BOV's if need be as they are a standard item, but for all the GTST owners who don't have front mounts then there begins the debacle.

Why do they have different noise level rules for cars and bikes? Most harleys make you nearly deaf with how loud they are, what about engine brakes on trucks?

Oh and ask them this... What is the best answer to give when the officer asks "any reason why you were speeding back there?" That one has always got me, I really want to give some funny ass pisser of an answer but always chicken out and say something along the lines of "dunno" or "I wasn't concentrating", well I used to say that but after losing the licence a few to many times in the Mazda driving days I have stopped speeding.

Have fun on wednesday, oh and don't take the line with you as if you ask a smart ass question I bet you $10 he will be waiting round the corner to answer all your questions by giving examples on your car :(

Ah upcoming - didnt see that

As for the EPA/one intake mod, Nissan didnt build the car that way, so im not sure how you can question it.

Its not like you can change a GTR front mount and have pods - thats still illegal...

As for questions - its a good idea, but does it take into account all the variables between Vic law and ADR's? I reckon even the officer in question wont know without looking it up and will be fairly unwilling to give you a set answer without doing said consultation with his books - thats what ive found in the past and fair enough too.

I had a good chat to 2 undercover cops on saturday when they were waiting infront of my parked car for me to come back to car. I popped my bonnet they checked everything/ height of ride etc everything was fine/legal. the height was just a bit over 100mil's so i was alright but they said i was cutting it close.. I understand some of them can be really into it to find something wrong or as some will say are 'assholes' but they are only doing there job, but then again what car is legal nowadays if they want to find something wrong they normally will. (thats what i dont like espcially when they say it to you. its not only the feeling of them trying to intimidate you but also it feels like they are abusing their rights/powers to taking a car off the road or defecting it)

It is a shame though that in the time they pull over certain people who stick to the law/dont speed and just want to drive to where there going get picked on instead of the most popular impounded car the commodore on the other side of the road going over the speed limit.

Of course many cops would target us. Extra cash in the coffers as the icing on the speed camera cake is always nice.

More importantly, imports have a higher than average yield of defectable modifications = impound, canary, time off road = showing the majority of the voting community that the ol' VP are cracking down on the typical "hoons" portrayed by tabloid news = keep the pollies happy = more funding for cops.

No-one gets a kick out of slapping old half-blind Freddy on the pension with a huge defect that says he basically needs to trade his shitbox XL Falcon in for a scooter. Today Tonight would have a field day. That action would save more lives, and preserve more Antarctic emperor penguins through lower emissions than taking one of us out. But since when did common sense come into the equation? "Car-ism" is still politically correct. The car you drive defines you. To categorise import drivers as all dangerous hoons makes it much easier for pollies to garnish support and solidarity through most of the voting community by targeting a scapegoat for the high road toll and irresponsible youth behaviour.

yeah i hate that stupid question too, i mean why they ask you WHY are you speeding? it's like asking why are you naked while you're taking a shower...

I would like to know how a 78 year old man who T boned my car on a major highway. Still has a license after running a stop sign, and while out of the vehicle was clearly not in a physical state to be able to drive?

What measures do the Police recommend to Policy makers to try and avoid such circumstances from happening?

they ask why you were speeding to get a confession from you for the record.

Why do they say its just a random breath test when they chuck a U turn from stationary, weave inbetween traffic for 5ks to get behind you and pull you over. Sometimes i think i should just pull over straight away when i see a cop chuck a Uturn and just wait for them.

Im all for the cops doing their job and enforcing the law so I really dont have worthwhile questions to ask, just annoyed at the unofficial targeting. That speeding question by ANTGTR is good.

Well there's a question right there I reckon. When pulling someone over for a defect, how are the laws applied? Are ADR's taken into acount as well as state law? Are they weighted? Which is "heavier"? I dunno, just quickly off the top of my head.

(This ones probably been answered on here before many times) Can we record the conversation when pulled over by the police? For instance, in almost every case you hear about imports being pulled over the police officer attempts to intimidate the driver. This, if used as evidence in court, could well be used against the police officer. This is a tool we should have in our arsenal to stop unfair treatment.

Double post oh noez.

Only thing is, when I was replacing the filter etc on my Mazda, I asked vic roads to be put through to someone to talk to about mods on cars and their legality, I said here is what I am doing;

1. pod

2. Front mount

3. BOV.

He asked if the car had any of those as factory part, I said yes it has smaller front mount and plastic BOV, but no pod. He said I could change all teh parts because the Pod was the only thing not fitted as factory item. Didn't matter if the cooler was larger or the BOV was after market as they were there from factory, after all he said you can't always get genuine parts on an old car so you have to be able to put aftermarket on.

Makes sense really, if you think about it. Pod was dry element so no probs. Got epa tested and put through pits as part of compliance and all passed no problems :)

^^ Sounds to me that the gentlemen at Vic Roads said that by doing Dirk Diggler's 3 mods he was only making 1 intake modification in their interpretation, the other 2 mods were purely upgrades of factory parts to aftermarket. An FMIC is an FMIC, it doesnt matter what brand, a pod is a pod, regardless of brand, etc, etc.

What time was this meant to be happening? I want to know how it went!
